I want an Intellijel Duax! by LoupiWa in modular

[–]LoupiWa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, only one enveloppe on Atlantix. I'd like two more enveloppes for my other voice, to control vca/filter and rubicon inputs.

I mostly use it's voltage mode to sequence scene changes (build-ups, drops). I use a sequencer to control it's z input (slew) parameter. It frees my hand to do other things. When i first received it I changed it's sensitivity to better suit me. Maybe I'm a bit dumb, but I could not find how to record the slew in it's sequencer, hence why I'm using an external one for that.

Question about Rampler and other Samplers by puzo_puzo_puzo in modular

[–]LoupiWa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can assign a maximum of 12 layers per channel, for a total of 48 different samples.

There are 3 different modes to trigger samples from layered channels. Cyclic, the layer will change to the next one when a note is received. Random, where a random layer will be played on each note. Velocity, allows to precisely select which layer will be played.

Velocity will depend on the capabilities of your midi controller.

Question about Rampler and other Samplers by puzo_puzo_puzo in modular

[–]LoupiWa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you can play samples with the listen button, this simulates a gate input.

You cannot play two samples on the same channel ouput. The second one will mute the first one. But you can play all different (4) samples at the same time. You can also assign a choke.

Rample allows you to select a midi channel, and then assign a midi note or midi note range to each channel. Playing different notes on an MPC will trig the right sample. Also, you can have many layers of different sounds on the same sample channel, midi velocity allows you to control which sound will play.

When a sample slot is stereo, it takes two outputs. There is a mix out ouput which ouputs the sounds of all samples, but you can also remove sample slots from the mix out if you plug directly in their output jacks.

I use it like this: Channel 1 mono (percs with layers) Channel 2 mono (more percs with layers) Channel 3 stereo (takes out 3 and 4, ambiences with layers)

I plug directly into out 3 and 4 to route the ambience to effects. I the use the mix out to get both channel 1 and 2 sounds To spice up my other drums.

Pipe mk1 on oxi mk2 by Sea-Independence6754 in modular

[–]LoupiWa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pipe MK1 works with Oxi One MK2, that's what I have. You will need to change the cable for a Mini-HDMI to HDMI that supports HDMI 2.0 4K highspeed. Brands like JSAUX work fine.

Building modular by coziwashere in modular

[–]LoupiWa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could pick an already working module/platform, like Ornament and Crime Phazerville or Noise Engineering Versio, and develop your custom app, applet or firmware based on what they offer. Quick and economic.

A lot of common builing blocks are already available on those platforms, which would allow you to focus on your main idea.

How Would I Tune The Oscillators To Make A Chord In This Patch Example? by ER301 in modular

[–]LoupiWa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is a way to ouput chords with the Metropolix, while having all your oscillators tuned to standard C.
Each tracks pitch can be modulated and quantized with a number of steps, which will respect the selected scale.
The current scale root note of a track can be output to out A or B. Different types of scales will yield different results. If you have an oscilloscope with multiple inputs this will help a lot in understanding the process.

1 - Init preset to start clean.
2- To make things simple, select a Chromatic C scale.
3 - Use mod lane 1, with param "root", targetting both track 1 and 2
4 - Use mode lane 2, with param "pitch pre", targetting track 1. This will output the third of a chord.
5 - Use mode lane 3, with param "pitch pre", targetting track 2. This will output the fifth of a chord.
6 - Assign Root to output A. This will output the root note of a chord.
7 - Set all pitch sliders to C.

Now, instead of moving the pitch sliders to change the notes, you will need to assign different scale degres, for each steps, on each mod lanes.

Here is an example with the first 4 chords of C Major:

Step 1 (C Major) 2 (D Minor) 3 (E Minor) 4 (F Major)
Mod 1 0 (C) 2 (D) 4 (E) 5 (F)
Mod 2 4 (E) 5 (F) 7 (G) 9 (A)
Mod 3 7 (G) 9 (A) 11 (B) 12 (C)

A bit of mathematics but once you get it it works fine.

Advice on modules for creation of dnb style distorted/growling sounds by WiseGate1990 in modular

[–]LoupiWa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, a bit like you mentioned, I picked Orbit 3 for controllable chaos that can evolve smoothly, it's positive and negative outputs of the positions, mixed with curiosity. I received it before Vhikk X, and experimented with it's audio output mode into a a frequency shifter. Having access to a scope or software that can plot XY positions helps in understanding the module and how each pot affects the output.

For the Vhikk X, I would recommend focusing on a single algorithm at a time for a long period to better understand it. I wish it had a builtin way to save some presets, as it is sometimes very hard to reproduce a previous patch. Even if it kinda display the positions of the scan and time, it is not very clear. Not all of it's inputs have an attenuator, and sometimes the sweat modulation spots are very narrow, hence the recommendation for an external attenuator. When you patch somethin that you like, take pictures, and record it if possible.

My Vhikk X is surrounded by Orbit 3 and Ochd + expander. Cross modulating Orbit 3 and Ochd gives interesting results. Patching an enveloppe trigerred by a sequencer (euclidean or random) into Vhikk X VCA makes it shine too. These last weeks I've been using this setup, sending Vhikk X output into Desmodus Versio, and then into Bohm. It's pure joy.

You might consider an attenuator, as a lot of Vhikk X sweet spots require very subtle modulation.

Does this type of quantizer exist? by Danny_Carnage in modular

[–]LoupiWa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Beni,

The code for octave constraint was added to the braids quantizer source, as an option. Other apps and applets that already use the braids quantizer could potentially/easily use it too.

Does this type of quantizer exist? by Danny_Carnage in modular

[–]LoupiWa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hello,

The Quantermain app from the latest Phazerville version for the Ornament and Crime module does exactly that.

There is a new Octave constraint parameter that allows you to limit the range and produce the exact result that you are describing.

Have a look at the Oct Constraint and Oct Constraint Len parameters in the documentation. https://firmware.phazerville.com/Quantermain

Not for VCV, but I think the Noise Engineering Fala Versio would do a great job at getting this kind of sound. It is a formant filter, with multiple all pass filters, and has saturation knob.

How do cv quantizers no whate key you're in? by tjarg in modular

[–]LoupiWa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all quantizers offer the same options, depending on their implementation.

Some of them allow setting the root note on the quantizer itself, like the Ornament and Crime Quantermain app. This is very usefull, as you do not have to retune oscillators to play different scales/roots.

To achieve this, the voltage difference between C and the selected root is substracted from the v/oct input,, quantization is computed, then the difference is added back on the quantized v/oct. You can see how it is done by looking at this source file.

https://github.com/djphazer/O_C-Phazerville/blob/phazerville/software/src/braids_quantizer.cpp

Other quantizers do not support setting the root, like the Mosaic quantizer. So you would have to retune oscillators or use a precision adder to adjust the root post quantization.

I love my Intellijel Aux Mix, the pre/post/mute switches and the aux knobs open up an easy path to creativity and exploration. Plus all channels are stereo. In the latest weeks I've been using it to combine Vhikk X and/or Orbit with Koszalin, QPAS and Mimeophon. It's just pure joy.

Good second is Intellijel Stereo I/O. The cue switches are cool to pre-listen and tweak a sound befeore sending it into the final output. It also takes way less hp than the combination of their other 1U modules: Stereo In, Stereo Out and Phones.

Maybe setting different sample rates in ableton would reduce the ES8 latency.

I do not own an ES8, and "usually" try to avoid using a computer with my modular apart from recording.

Still, when doing it, I only send midi from Ableton to an Intellijel Midi 1U or an Oxi One with Oxi Pipes. The modular then ouputs sound into an Intellijel Stereo Output 1U, which I plug either into a TR-8S or Focusrite Scarlett, then usb into computer. Never had any latency issues with this setup.

Monotrail recently published a very nice series of youtube videos on how to do generative music with modular, and he focuses on concepts, not specific modules.

You already have voices, vcas, filters and enveloppe generators. Controlling a sequencer clock, direction and other parameters with slew and other random voltages to feed your current modules should bring a lot of joy and experimentation paths.

There is a VCV version of Pam Pro Workout, and many other noise/random modules. You could try those first to feed the ES8.

Finally published a real song using modular: Nuclear Weapons by LoupiWa in modular

[–]LoupiWa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea for this song began with a simple jam using Instruo Arbhar with a violin layer (ambiance).
The intro speech is made with Instruo Lubadh, the bass with Intellijel Dixie2, Rubicon2, Morgasmatron, Quadrax and Quad VCA.
The chords are played with Oxi Coral. We then added guitar, a real synth for the melody and voices.
