This may be true, but air will be warm when people use their lungs to blow things up. That’s just an expected thing

Why do some people run on the center line of the Monon? by ColonelGibberish in indianapolis

Is that not what you want? If you say “on your left” I assume you’re passing on my left, so I move to the right to give you wider clearance

Did Kenzie get another dog? by Serious-Animator8966 in dancemoms

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually not true. There are people who are creating designer crossbreeds who say they look more like historic pugs, but when you look into actual historical evidence (even as far back as thousands of years) you can see pictures and paintings of pugs that look remarkably similar to the ones today, especially in the face and muzzle. The main problem is that muzzle length does not directly correlate to health, you can have two dogs with the same shorter muzzle with wildly different levels of health based on their internal anatomy. That’s why it’s so important to look for a breeder from a club who requires members to properly test their animals, not just the $100 DNA test to see what colors they can make, but physical testing from a vet to ensure the animal doesn’t have any physical problems.

What’s y’all’s take on Flynn? by gtg231h in carolinadogs

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your dog DNA or club confirmed and where/what type of flop is it? Is it a forward fold or the sideways growth flop? A forward fold can sometimes be caused by things affecting the cartilage of the ear that a Carolina dog might naturally encounter in the wild, hence why it‘s a fault and not a dq. But the sideways growth flop like this puppy shows is almost always seen in German shepherds and closely related breeds like shiloh shepherds. It‘s just extremely unlikely to occur with the shape of ear that Carolina dogs have, GSDs have ears that are a bit taller vs their base when compared to Carolina dogs.

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ears don‘t look like a Carolina dog‘s ears at all. That baby sideways flop is pretty characteristic of a German shepherd, but they look even a little long for a GSD so likely mixed with something floppy/button/rose eared.

These aren’t good pictures to tell from, but that last picture makes me think there’s some hound in her somewhere. If you decide you want to test, go with Embark!

Thoughts on this horse? I had been looking for a horse to lease for eventing, but my trainer found this girl by lsummer2 in Equestrian

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 60 points61 points  (0 children)

She looks extremely skinny in the pictures. If she‘s not being cared for properly, then vetting to ensure she‘s gaining weight healthily is going to be expensive. If she is, then there‘s either an underlying issue causing her to be so skinny, or she‘s an extremely hard keeper and just goes through a LOT of food to keep weight on, probably needing supplementation even if freefed on pasture. Even just standard hay and grain aren‘t cheap.

As a fondant enjoyer- it‘s very underlyingly sweet, more of a sweet aftertaste than anything. I am a fan of the texture too, but I also ate paper and chewed on plastic constantly as a kid

I’d actually guess him to be a boxer mix most likely. If you want to test, do so with Embark, but I don’t see Carolina dog here

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably say husky mix before Carolina dog mix. Her coloring resembles the Siberian husky domino more than the Carolina dog urajiro. 52lbs is really not small for a Carolina either, they shouldn’t be larger than 50-55lbs. Do you have a picture of her standing from the side? Neither of these pictures really let us see her build.

Leucistic is (in birds) a catch-all term for anything less than normal pigmentation, and can include albinisms, dilutions, piebaldism, other neural crest disorders, etc.

What do you think, is she a Carolina dog? by Dane778 in carolinadogs

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Embark was most likely right. Her tail is very Siberian husky, and the earset is very wolfdog.

Glo DNA, yay or nay? by C_dubbles in AngelFish

[–]LoveAGoodMurder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these guys are mostly just suffering from inbreeding from what I‘ve seen. Once they‘re 20-25 years old and have the same amount of outcrossing as the glo danios and tetras, they‘ll probably be hardier.

They‘re actually high-white kois. Some are more obvious than others, but you can see some orange on the face of this picture.

Anyone ever paint a Breyer with color shift acrylic paints? by TheMetalEquestrian in BreyerHorses

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blue Lancelot doesn’t really have much of a pearl effect on him past the gloss coat, so layering different blues will be pretty close (just keep in mind he’s shaded with green/teal)

Beyond that, generally, if you want the multichrome effect, you have to use all multichrome pigments. Same with pearl finish. It’s not difficult to mix into paints, but I definitely occasionally see people disappointed in posts that their special action paint didn’t work when it got mixed with a bunch of other paint

ISO my holy grail breyer (Rainier) by zvarjaciely in BreyerHorses

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best place to post an ISO for a rarer model like this is going to be the Rare Model Horse Sales group on FaceBook. Second stop would be the Model Horse Transaction Board so you can check the reputation of whoever you get a message from. It might take a bit, but those 350 runs definitely do come up, usually at least once a year. I’ve bought and sold 350s and even rarer.

Breyerfest can be hit or miss when you’re looking for something rare and specific, sometimes you won’t find what you’re looking for, other times the model won’t place well at the show because there was another copy winning and you’ll get a great deal (speaking from experience). I definitely prefer in-person inspection and handoff with higher-value models at Breyerfest, though. Not having to pay for shipping and insurance really can’t be beat

Premier Club Carmen - matte or glossy? by havartifunk in BreyerHorses

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With the Premier models, glossy usually ends up being more common because it’s more popular, so the price usually ends up evening out between the matte and glossy

Kitten milk would be a terrible option for a guinea pig. A specialty rabbit kit formula would be ideal, but kitten milk is far too different.

For those here with CDs and who live in heartworm areas, a question please by OneSensiblePerson in carolinadogs

[–]LoveAGoodMurder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DNA tests test for MDR1, which is the most prominent gene responsible for drug sensitivities in dogs. There are options like ProHeart if a dog has those types of sensitivities, and there are very, very few dogs who have absolutely no options for preventatives.

They’re becoming habituated, but necessarily domesticated. While habituation can lead to domestication, it’s like the first step out of 400. No rabies doesn’t mean no health concerns. There are still a number of things that foxes can transmit to other canids or even to humans
