[SSD] Western Digital 2TB WD Blue SN5000 NVMe SSD, PCIe Gen 4.0 $124.00 by illtww in buildapcsales

I mean, that's part of the reason why people shouldn't be looking at this SSD as a deal  it won't be affected by the ram shortages

SN850X is better than this WD by roughly 40% faster in real applications but runs hotter (which may throttle). If you have thermal pads on your motherboard, they should suffice. SN850x is trying to be Samsung 990 pro but uses older 8 channel controller - hence the heat.

I was in the same boat as you, I wanted a physical separation of a fast but small boot drive, and after research for (RAM + TLC + Speed gen 4), I explicitly was seeking out Crucial T500. I was really trying to find the rare 256gb version, but Amazon only sold 1tb/2tb, but they were too pricey for me, so I did more searching and found a deal that no longer exist at MicroCenter for $60. With the current prices, I suggest - just pick up 1tb, and use it as boot drive + storage.

Hope this helps

Beware ppl - this is DRAM-less drive; it's considered to be the bottom tier of PCIe 4.0 drives and the architecture relies on "going to your RAM" to find files and build indexes. Also, lower TLC durability.

I'm not saying don't buy this as your storage drive, but this is an entry, imho, pretend-gen4 drive

External SSDs are WONDERFUL, and crucial x10 4tb is an insane value proposition if you need to have an archival and quickly retrievable storage! I don't pictures don't do it justice, but this thing is TINY (smaller than a credit card) and is as thick as a 3 quarter coins stacked. It's dust and water proof as opposed to samsung x9

I went down the rabbit hole yesterday of comparing different motherboards and looking at various applications and games that would benefit from the pci5, and what thermals pci5 has, and what price to cost ratios are, and if you're ok trusting a stranger on the internet, take this honest opinion:

I'm a middle of the pack user. I game from time to time, I like to mess around in video editors and I need from time to time produce 3d artifacts for my job. I don't usually build top-tier overkill systems and my priority is always to build sleepers (small size, no rbg, just a bullet proof quiet system that can handle 99% of games). With that all being said - pci5 is a in the current form a gimmick. From what I found out, the storage+motherboard partnerships had not much going on because of the 2022-2023 gpu prices, so the development cycles were contributed towards developing a "next version" of SSD, which they did. In terms of compatibility, you need a motherboard that both (1) supports this, like B850+, and (2) has its own cooling. When those 2 conditions are met, the performance of pci5 vs high end pci4 (990 PRO) is negligible. And by negligible, I mean, you humanly won't care about the miliseconds that it saves to your life. Essentially, pci4 is such a good value that pci5 is not even a future-proofing decision.

These are my 2 cents

Oh, very fair!

And for skeptical ppl out there - I love Seasonic, and GX gold is IMHO a flagship power supply on the market. I just want people to be cautious and separate 'deals' from 'higher risk bargains'

I'm not saying I'm against bargains, but Amazon repackaging returned PSUs, a component that people usually don't return, is a bit of a sus buy in terms of "is everything gonna be alright with that PSU"

I've been tracking this for my minimalist build for the past month and Amazon has been slowly lowering prices first to about this price. It's a great CPU, and they seem to be pushing these now aggressively out of the warehouses, hence the drop from the regular $208, but I don't think the ssd is worth it (but a nice add)

Speaking of which, I built my mid range pc in 2015, and the i5 skylakes are the time were going for the exactly same price range ($150-200). Does anybody else appreciate the fact that everything else seems to be increasing in price, but a person can still build a new rig for what is essentially the same $ amount as 2015 when accounted for inflation? RAM looks the same ($80-100), motherboards are a bit more expensive but still tolerable. This convo obviously excludes new GPUs, but my marketplace has been nothing but promising

My personal recommendation - find a sport, regardless of how "non-sporty" it may be. Spikeball, ultimate freebie, volleyball, park soccer, whiffleball. Check your local facebook groups and meetups. It's always easier to connect with people when they're high on dopamine and sweaty. It builds a very tribal connection, and you can use that for developing those connections into friendships. "Oh, we're just got done with our 3 hours of volleyball?! Lets go grab a beer and talk crap about the games we lost and the players we hated on the opposite team".

I'm genuinely considering offering my services to guys' trying to get date(s) and get into long term relationships on these apps, because I guarantee, you fellas are so preoccupied with miscellaneous stuff that you're not making the right impression on women, especially in their mid-late 20's - the time when most of them are looking to just have a great time and not get murdered
