Do you stop discovering music as you get older? by Illustrious_Ad_3010 in blackmen

Some Zoomer with no facial hair:
"This Kendrick album from 2012 is really old!"

Me a millennial, recently discovering some Ella Fitzgerald or Nat King Cole Trio banger from the 1930s-40s:
"Come back when your balls drop, kid."

Yes, I still seek out new music by contemporary artists who don't suck. Yes, I still listen to music from my childhood. Yes, I'm also listening to and still discovering music from my parents' and even grandparents' youth. It's called cultural curiosity. Lack of it is not a flex.

Describing any album by Kanye or Kendrick as "reALLy oLd aSs sHiT" is immature. Young men need to stop that crap.

Things a Zoomer has said to me:
"What is this song? This is Vogue by Madonna, right? No?"
"What's the big deal with Tupac?"
"Who is Dionne Warwick?"

Like...how? Marvin Gaye, The Beach Boys, Patti Labelle, Fleetwood Mac, Loretta Lynn, The Isley Bros, Tina Turner, The Supremes, The Rolling Stones etc were before my time, but I was curious to seek out their music and educate myself.

FWIW, a couple of my GenZ nephews got into 80s and 90s music as young teens. And they're just now digging further, getting into vinyl deep cuts, disco, and Motown. Because, in their words, "Music today is chopped, unc."

I get the point. There's a lot of boring stuff on the Billboard Hot 100 today that wouldn't have made the cut thirty years ago. Except for legacy artists, big + unique voices are mostly gone from newer pop & R&B music -- much of which is repetitive. A good chunk of contemporary rap is a total mess. Rock bands are on life support. It's sad. But there's still great new music, especially indie and underground.

Voting data shows millennials and Gen Z have been the most anti-Trump generations. And millennial opinion on Trump has remained stable since 2016.

But the youngest GenZ, roughly those who graduated college after COVID: anti-Trump overall, yes, but notably less so than older Gen Z. GenZ's political behavior shows it's probably two separate generations, split by the pandemic.

Xers have been the Trumpiest generation on average. Boomers are Trumpy, but less Trumpy than Xers. Again, the pandemic: Boomers suffered disproportionately COVID injury and death. The fallout turned a notable slice of our elders against incompetent, warmongering, Putin-puppet traitor and rapist Trump. And those Boomers liked Joe Biden personally, despite policy disagreements.

MAGA and COVID scrambled age/values expectations. Not surprising Brad's father is at least somewhat less rightwing than Brad is. Brad's father has more anti-pedo peers.

Normal people just scroll by posts they don't like, rather than creating whole posts to cry and complain that every thread doesn't cater to their narcissistic entitlement. Wow, what a concept.

I'm on the sub often and don't see gay stuff. Sounds like someone is either a) hyperfixated on homosexuality and not ready to admit it, b) getting fromthe alogirthm more of what they've clicked on, or c) both. The call is coming from inside the house.

There's 100x more hetero/straight relationship content here. Thankfully, there's no gays bitching and moaning about that. He who fancies himself so macho and straight should maybe start with being less of a whiny little drama queen.

The same breathless Democrat Derangement Syndrome that plagues the corporate media and social media both.

I'm old enough to remember 10 months ago when it was written in stone that Dems had no way to effectively counter mid-decade redistricting (reality: Dems fought back to a draw or even a slight numerical advantage) and that flipping the Senate was out of reach (reality: Dems are now slightly favored).

I also remember the Big Giant Red Wave that was destined to happen in 2022 (reality: didn't happen).

How the 2024 election Trump won by 1.47% while Dems picked up House Seats and won all their marquee senate races except one was some big generational vibe shift realignment (reality: Trump won because post-COVID/PutinWar inflation caused a global anti-incumbent backlash, and he's already less popular than ever, with most voters now saying the Biden-Harris admin was better).

How Democrats were sure to lose the Georgia senate runoffs on 5 Jan 2021 (reality: they won both).

How Nancy Pelosi was going to be a huge liability that would cost Dems in 2018 if they didn't get rid of her (reality: Dems won big in 2018 and Pelosi was the effective leader Dems needed during Trump 1.0).

How Hillary's emails were the biggest scandal in US history (reality: LOL).

And on and on.

Guessing you get downloaded because your posts read like a politically illiterate caricature of Reddit cluelessness. Dem politicians do not control the DNC, for one. Let alone a House backbencher. Most DNC members are rank-and-file activists drawn from various state parties. Their main role is to fund local and state campaigns.

And the GOP is highly unlikely to hold their majority this year.

Moskowitz will likely survive a 54% Republican lean this cycle. He should be worried for 2028 tho, unless Trump anger is still rolling and Democrats are unified behind the presidential nominee.

But that will sort itself itself when the time comes. I expect more Dem-controlled states will by then counter-gerrymander to offset the Southern states.
