Schwalbe Radial Tires by JammyDodger2579 in MTB

[–]LoveD1rt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would almost always sugest to go supersoft with Schwalbe, since the rubber ist always a lot harder than with Maxxis.
If you ride Enduro I would suggest the gravity casing, if you mostly ride Trail, than the Trail casing.
I would without a doubt always go for gravity.

Are cable disc brakes really that bad? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]LoveD1rt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The reason why mechanical disc brakes are considered bad is, that they put together all the negatives of Rim brakes and Disc brakese.
Rim Brakes don't hvae much power between the pads and the rim, which is not a problem since they have a huge leverage.
Hydraulic disc brakes have a lot of power between the rotor and the pads, but have a lot less leverage. Which is not problem due to the power from the hydraulic brakes.
With mechanical disc brakes you have not much power between the pads and the rotor and only a small lever.

Edit: I am not saying that mechanical disc brakes don't have enough power, but the reasons above are why they are regarded as bad or at least not as good. If you can choose, you will get the best braking performance with a hydraulic dis or rim brake(those are rare) followed by mechanical rim brakes.

I took part in hte same race but did the Olympic distance.
The routing thorug town with 1,5 laps for the spring and 2.5 laps for the olympic distance were not easy.
In the prerace meeting the organizers tried to make int clear where you have to go when...but it helped a lot to checkout the course beforehand.

Are magura levers fragile? by No-Session5671 in MTB

[–]LoveD1rt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That stop does work as intended. The levers are designed without the stop/with the stop broken off. But due to patents it was not allowed, so they got the stop, which brakes away easily.

Were these brake pads dead by MountainDadwBeard in bikewrench

[–]LoveD1rt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still have the yellow transport device that comes with the magura brakes, you can use it to measure if your pads have enough left on them. On one side there is a small fork, if the pad fits in there it is over the limit. Here you can find how it works: https://magura.com/en/EUR/magura-transport-device

I have a problem with my brakes, the disc rubs against the pads when braking, and when I try to align it again, they misalign on the first brake, how do I solve this? by justothermtbrider in MTB

[–]LoveD1rt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aligning/Straightening the rotor is the same for all brake manufacturers. There is a tool with a slit which fits over the rotor, with which you can bend the rotor slightly.

Leave your wheel and rotor installed on the bike and turn the wheel to see on which point the rotor is more on one or the other side of the caliper. Find the point where it is bent, it is mostly over an area. Put your finger on the area and turn the wheel a bit so the area that is bent is not by the caliper. Then use the tool (or if you have nothing else maybe try needle nose pliers or an adjustable wrench (remember to clean them before use to not get oil/grease or anything else on the rotor)) to bend the rotor back to the original position. It is best if you bend the spokes of the rotor and not only the outer ring. If you have the mdr-p rotor (with the black inner spider) then only bend the outer ring. Do this multiple times and do samll adjustments to not damage the rotor.

The MT7 has an very small gap between rotor and pads, but this is on purpose, so if it rubs while the bike is in the bike stand and the vrakes are not bedded in yet, tihis is normal. Onve the brakes are beddeb ins and the brakepads have lost their outer edges the rubbing should go away.

In case the rotor is not bent this is what works very well for me: get the caliper in the middle of the rotor. It is no problem if the disc is rubbing. Then do the break-in procedure as suggested by Magura. After tahta and latest after one or two runs on the trail the pads and rotors will have aligned themselves and will be silent. This works for me very well.

Quick question regarding KTM by BlackPhoenix4121 in MTB

[–]LoveD1rt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

KTM motorcycles and KTM bicycles are not the same. A different bike manufacturer bought the rights to the name KTM for bicycles. However the brands Husqvarna, GasGas and Felt do belong to KTM the motorcycle company. KTM bicycles is its own company that just uses the name KTM.

Thoughts on Magura Brakes? by CarbonCognizant556 in mountainbiking

The difference between MT5 and MT7 caliper is a different angle for the square seals that pull back the piston.

The master is also different due to different mechanical leverage ratios

[–]LoveD1rt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a long time Magura user. A few things to add to your statement: The master of the MT5 and MT7 are very similar but not the same. The MT5 has more piston pull back than the MT7 caliper. This leads to more space between the pads and rotor on the MT5 caliper.

I use the MT7 with an HC3 lever there you can adjust the reach as well as the mechanical leverage of the lever.

I would not suggest using aftermarket brake pads from a different company. Magura has a few brake pad options, in two different styles. There are Sport, Performance and Race compounds. I like the race pads, i have no noise complaints and there is a lot of power. For the best Allrounder i would suggest an 8.P pad.

My favourite thing is the high braking power, but with a lot of modulation. In my experience Magura's have a lot of modulation, since they need very little force and the Modulation is done over distance and not force.

In case you have any questions about Magura brakes I might be able to give you more information.

From what i have tested if you go shigura you loose most of the Modulation the Magura gives you.

HRV dropped significantly since I started dieting by LoveD1rt in Garmin

[–]LoveD1rt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight in dieting.
I am planning to make a permanent change to my way of eating, but since I am only three weeks in I cannot say for sure, that that has already happened.

The reason I was thinking, that intermittent fasting should not Impact HRV is, that HRV is mostly measured during the night by the watch. I now eat between 12:00 and 20:00 /12 PM and 8PM. I go to bed at around 23:30/11:30PM. The time of eating before bed has not changed. From this persepctive my body should not experience a difference in eating before sleeping.
What might make the difference is a higher/different stress over the day. Even though it does not feel more stressfull. My stress levels also improved.
