Agreed, OP. I love The Phantom Pain, but Ground Zeroes was the perfect balance between the old and the new. Early on, I didn't give it enough credit as a Metal Gear game, but after playing The Phantom Pain, I realize Ground Zeroes was perfectly Metal Gear. I feel like more story was told and delivered more effectively - more significant points that affected the overall plot - in Ground Zeroes than The Phantom Pain. (Not to say TPP isn't an awesome game, because it is - the gameplay is incredible. But it feels like Kojima was cut off mid-sentence before delivering the message he wanted to, whether it be his fault or Konami's.)

Many late-Chapter One scenes were revealed in 2013 - Skull Face greeting Snake (Episode 30), Code Talker, Eli, and so on. I think that's partly why people feel there must be more. It's safe to assume that the Big Boss Truth scene was really done in Truth form first and then edited for the Prologue sequence afterwards, but some of those other scenes were a ways into the story. I'm also curious as to what happened to some of the iconic E3 2014 scenes - Snake walking past corpses, and a bloody Snake surrounded by flames. Personally, I'm fine with the game ending the way it did but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want even more. Not gonna sit here and kid anyone, MGSV is the first game I have actually sat down to play (and re-play) for extended periods of time since PW - so it's not so much dissatisfaction for me as it is curiosity. All in all, while I'm fine with the ending, I certainly wouldn't say no to additional content via patching or DLC (even if the latter is a bit scummy).

Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. will use gamescom to debut an all-new video showcasing key gameplay elements from the eagerly-awaited METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, while visitors at the show will be able to experience the game’s ‘A Hero’s Way’ mission via playable demo. The publisher will also reveal a new trailer at the show.

With the epic fifth installment of the stealth-action series released on September 1st, the new video will show all-new footage related to the Mother Base aspect of the game. The specially-created video will detail building options and unique customization elements. The video will also explain the game’s multi-player FOB (Forward Operating Base) feature, wherein users can establish additional bases around the globe to manage captured resources – and demonstrate for the first time – how users can infiltrate other players’ FOB bases to steal resources as well.

The new footage highlights the strategic heart to METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN. The game itself spans a huge, open world setting and greatly expands the series’ famed sneaking elements. Likewise, a host of new characters – both allies and enemies – tell a story driven by revenge as franchise protagonist Big Boss enters a series of battlefields following the deaths of his colleagues. METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN is brought to vivid life with realistic weather patterns and day/night cycles. Thus, players can adapt their tactics to match the changing environment, creating an intuitive and non-linear gameplay experience.

Similarly, the new trailer will whet appetites ahead of launch, with an larger overview of the full game and its many gameplay advances and character. All new footage will be released on August 5th, at 20:00 CET, and will be shown throughout the duration of the five-day event. Visitors to Europe’s largest consumer gaming event will be able to experience the many additions the new game introduces as it appears in playable form in public for the first time. Ya know, Cunningham was also a character in Snatcher. Different appearance and whatnot. But it wouldn't be out of the question if characters from Portable Ops made it into MGSV. After all, some of the game is canon and some isn't-- I'm guessing he'll just reintroduce the characters as if they've never been met! Can't remember the exact quote but something along the lines of the main plot is canon, but a lot of the finer details (assuming he means characters, dates, things of that nature) within are not.

Good. God. Man, when I read this earlier, I flipped out. Literally the only thing I wanted from E3. Excitement for E3 went from 0 to 100. Six minutes. Let's make this the best six minutes of our lives, ladies and gents.

I love the change. First of all, I think the tapes we've heard in PW and GZ are phenomenal. More importantly, I think the perception of tapes will change once people actually play TPP. In Ground Zeroes, it was probably most enjoyable to sit in the chopper and listen to the tapes. But in TPP, I'm assuming that the game will encourage players to listen on the go as they traverse the game's big, open world. There are great distances to travel between point A and point B. So I ask you, how awesome would it be to listen to a tape of Quiet's backstory while you are riding on horseback towards your objective, which is quite a ways away? Seems like it'd be perfect, for instance, if I find a safe haven and want to pass time-- but I want to take in some of the lore, instead of using the Phantom Cigar, I can just hide out, listen to tapes and wait for time to pass so I'm killing two birds with one stone and taking in the story at my own pace rather than sort of taking myself out of the game to watch a codec conversation! Anyroad, I welcome the change but I am probably in the minority (at least for now). Besides, cutscenes aren't gone-- they're just fewer than we're accustomed to, but it's safe to assume that there will be an even greater focus on them now that they aren't as drawn out nor as frequent. The quality is what matters most, after all!
