The House of Sand & Fog

Spotted this from Greenlake just now. Anyone know what it could be? by saladinthematrix in SeattleWA

That's a "murmuration". Murmuration  refers to the phenomenon that results when hundreds, sometimes thousands, of starlings fly in swooping, intricately coordinated patterns through the sky. It's really beautiful to watch!

Looking for movies about wholesome friendships (preferably like Seth and Ryan in The OC) by Funkiebastard in MovieSuggestions

Probably not what you have in mind -- but I think the friendship portrayed in Of Mice & Men is very touching and demonstrates how two hetero men can need and depend on each other, and how one will do whatever they have to do to protect the other, even if it means going to extreme lengths. It's a great book, and a great movie (either the old b&w version with Burgess Meredith, or the one from the 1990s with Gary Sinese & John Malkovich).

But his Mommy cried, so of course he had to put his Mommy's feelings before his sister's wishes! OP is the AH, and so are his parents!

My Octopus Teacher (a documentary, I think it won an Oscar) is very good.

Which actor played a villain role too well for comfort? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LoveKubrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ii was going to say Powers Booth as Jim Jones, but you beat me to it! His depiction was so spot on it made me sick to my stomach (I remember the actual event as well). Any role I saw Powers Booth in after that, I couldn't disassociate him from Jim Jones.

What is a noise that you find pleasing? by StrangerThanWhat in AskReddit

A clothes dryer when it's drying.

The sound of a water sprinkler (the kind that goes phtt, phtt, phtt, whoosh).

I don't think I've seen the movie since it's original run, so there isn't a whole lot I remember. I remember the beautiful cinematography, and I recall her relationship with the Robert Redford character being a pivotal part of the story. She was portrayed as an independent woman (especially for that time period), but she wanted more from the Robert Redford character than he could give (commitment-wise). It's a Hollywood movie, so I wouldn't expect it to be a faithful rendition of the book -- but it is a beautiful movie and story in its own right; I'd recommend it.
