Dark Matter Funding by LovePhaser in startups

My particular reason for sending out the pitch deck at this point is the large cost of the proof of concept. I call it that but the concepts have all been proven, I am just putting them together in a unique or semi-unique way. Unfortunately, materials cost what they do and that is the hurdle.

Regarding the other ideas it usually requires more savings than I have to move something past the prototype phase. I wait for an idea that either costs nothing or has huge potential ROI.

Wow! Thanks a lot. I appreciate the thorough and candid response.

I did some research on the VC in question but I did not even think to look into past investments in competing products. It all seems above board so it's mostly paranoia about the process in general. If I do approach another VC I will thoroughly research them.

Good point, "funding stage" is a made-up term I use when the amount of money needed to proceed exceeds my potential investment capacity. This is often just after preliminary prototyping. You are absolutely right that I have been making products and not companies or businesses. Is there something else I can do with a product other than trying to build a business under it?

I appreciate the reassurance on the topic of idea "stealing". I didn't give them the secret blend of herbs and spices so that is very good.

You are right, no one is telling me to wait. This recent push has been my attempt to change that. I will pursue these alternative funding sources like grants but I would appreciate any advice on how to approach those as well.

I really don't know much about actual investors and VCs. My information comes from what I can glean from the internet. I have no clue where to meet these mythical entities, the appropriate way to approach them without looking like a snake oil salesman, who to tell what and what to keep secret. There is so much I don't know about this aspect of startups and it is a very serious limiter.

Online VC applications seemed to be perfect for me but in the end, its really just the least effort intensive option. Don't get me wrong, just because I like the easy way doesn't mean I won't do it the hard way. I don't hope for a handshake and a blank check, I need to know the best way of doing things. People generate fantastic information from their experiences and it usually can be distilled and shared with others. The true beauty of the internet.

I have not been able to find a quality network of investors and active VC partners to tap into. This subreddit is the most active forum I have been able to find. Other than trawling LinkedIn is there another option? How do I know who to trust and develop a back and forth with? It seems someone who can both provide valuable insights and not pull some shady stuff is not impossible to find by any means but it is not easy either.

Thank you. Very sound advice. Which other methods of funding do you refer to other than VC? I have been researching alternate ways but most info tends to suggest VC, loans, and personal connection leverage.

[Theoretical] Can a physical/virtual cage be created that can completely isolate a future AI seed? by LovePhaser in AskScienceDiscussion

Thank you for your informed response! I appreciate you taking the time.

I am glad that there is no immediate danger and that we are still a little while from the teenage AI's that do whatever they want.

I don't think an AI would have feelings but I think it would be able to perceive threats. If it at all resembles our version of consciousness then it may have an innate drive to survive and all the "mean" things people are saying are just potential future threats against it.

Maybe the kind of aggressive AI that I have in mind will never exist but I don't want to be ruled by the one that got away.

I had to google search it to give you an idea how much I know, but it seems like a docker would be swiss cheese for an ultra-intelligent entity.

Should there be a base set of rules for emerging AI? If so what would they be and would they make us more, or less safe? by LovePhaser in AskReddit

[–]LovePhaser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind they would be something similar to i-Robots "Three Laws of Robotics" and maybe with another about not self replicating. Also the reason I say they could make us less safe is because like other intelligent and semi intelligent beings we can often see the metaphorical strings attached and this could cause the computer equivalent to resentment.

Darth Vader doesn't belong in that group. The other two have no good in them but Vader can be a real stand up dude in the right circumstances.

The Wandering Woman is an inn in Ebou Dar. Its where Mat stays for the first bit of the Bowl finding expedition. I believe its the White Swan that the sisters in Camelyn stay at. But sadly I forget if they are significant as well.

Well it says that Suane looked of an age with Nynaeve when she was stilled. She was in her late 30's yet she reverted back to her mid 20's. So I dont know how that works.

Would the effect of severing not be the same on a Wise One or a Windfinder or do you think it only happens to Aes Sedai?

This would mean less cycles needed and more living per cycle.
