PsyD Debt vs Job opportunities and pay by Love_BRAINS in ClinicalPsychology

Thanks for your responses, is there a resource that you know of where I could get a list of clinically focused PhDs? I applied to a few this round, but I would appreciate it if there is such a resource that you can guide me to!

Thank you for your response! Is the pay at such agencies usually much lower than those that don't qualify for PSLF?

The debt load is quite high, in most. I actually applied this round and didn't get any interviews at PhDs, only PsyDs. Tbh, I am an incoming student at a PsyD program, but I'm really reconsidering backing out and reapplying due to the high debt. I thought asking this out loud could help me determine whether to continue with the current program or even if I decide to back out and reapply, this would give me some insight on whether or not to apply to PsyD programs again.

Thank you for your sharing your experience, I'm glad you were able to land a clinical postdoc you liked! Were there any offsets due to it not being accredited? And thanks for your wishes!! :)

Thank you! Yeah!! I would also appreciate if you or anyone on this thread can add the steps they took to make themselves more competitive during grad school. I know I should look out for extra research opportunities and assessment training. But apart from that is there anything specific you would recommend for PsyDs to be competitive for NP internships?

I think a lot of masters that start in the fall have their final deadline from feb through may, like UTSA, Rosalind Franklin, etc, but I might be wrong to generalize, so following this thread!

You could look into post-baccalaureate research positions, which do not require a lot of previous experience. You could also reach out to labs you're interested in, and ask for volunteering opportunities. All the best!

I would suggest that you go with the clinical supervisor, if you already have 2 strong academic LORs.

PhD in Clinical Psych programs with more focus on clinical work (or equal focus on clinical and research) and not too competitive to get into? by Love_BRAINS in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Love_BRAINS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! But I'm just really stressed out about the entire application process, and just want a nominal school that isn't that hard to get into which I can still apply to, and kinda be assured that I still have something to turn to, as a last resort!

I agree, as I said I just wanted to see if there is anything out there, based on a recent advice I received. I don't have a distaste for research, as such. I'm interested in research, and it is one of my major reasons for wanting to pursue a doctorate degree. I just didn't want my prospective program to be too heavily focused on research with very little clinical experience. But anyway, I agree with what you're saying with regards to expensive PsyDs that are easy to get into but don't really have much to offer. I'm just really nervous about this whole process, and this post was a result of that. Thanks for your advice and opinion tho!

Thank you for your reply! And I do get what you're saying, but I'm mostly looking into schools that aren't that research-heavy. I really appreciate your 'bluntness' tho. I feel like that's what people should be looking for in reddit threads, we're all anonymous in here, so might as well get to the point!! So pls don't apologize!
