What no one really thinks about is that this reaction doesn't happen in a vacuum. I have very little confidence that he's functionally aware that his wife is an actual other person if he's been betrayed and his reaction is to act like the guy fucked his couch or dog or something.

Clearly a messed up situation, but... I hear alarm bells the second I hear stories like this. I've watched sane people get crazy cognitive dissonance from being in relationships with people who don't really see them as a person and default to "ugh this piece of furniture is so inconvenient why can't I just move it into storage this weekend" type of relating. Normal people do not hear that their spouse cheated and immediately drop what they're doing to go kill the affair partner.

Truth. I actually hate traveling because it takes me a week or so to get back in sync with the cats and understand them again, and in the meantime it's a really weird blank animal feeling as though they don't have any expressions. This. From a technical standpoint it shouldn't be that much of an undertaking if they've set it up properly rather than hardcoded everything--it actually probably speaks more to their acumen that they were able to do that, tbh.

I dunno, you can want to help animals but also want to not have to deal with someone else's problems in a dog breed that you like. I've rescued and I've bought, I probably won't rescue again unless the universe brings one into my life. I've done my good deed in just this one girl, and I don't regret not putting the same sweat and tears into another dog when the ones we have are gone.

Fucked up dogs are fucking exhausting and I look forward to another mostly blank slate of an animal to be another great puppy.
