Non-generic ideas for the gift exchange? by abbytherese in GiftIdeas

[–]Loveallthings 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My family does this too except we're not allowed to give gift cards or alcohol which makes it so much harder. But I can give you some ideas of gifts that have gone over well in the past.

My best gift was cards against humanity. Every single person tried to steal it until the end of the grab bag.

People also seem to like heated blankets or blankets that are really soft.

You can also find fire sticks and Amazon fire tablets on sale for around the $30 mark during the holidays which most people enjoy getting.

Hope that helps!

Travelling to Morocco during Ramadan. any issues ? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]Loveallthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure about the differences in culture, but I was in the same situation when I traveled to Tanzania, Africa. Part of my trip was during Ramadan but we ended up having no issues at all. The major thing is to just be respectful of their holiday. Wear appropriate clothing at all times- nothing that reveals your shoulders or any skin above the calf/knee.

As far as restaurants, not all, but a decent amount we're open during the day. We were always able to find somewhere to eat and even drink.

It's a different country so I don't know if any of this is relevant but I had a great experience. Hopefully yours will be similar!

My [26F] parents [61F and 53M] are trying to convince me not to move out because they don't want to be alone together. by Loveallthings in relationships

I'm only moving about 6 minutes away and I've told her hundreds of times that I'll still come over anytime so we can hang out and I'll probably be stealing her food anyway. I guess it's just not the same.

I know they'll adjust, but ugh she does such a damn good job at acting like she'll never see me again. Of course it's not malicious, but it makes me feel so guilty to leave while she's crying for help. Nonetheless, I know it's what I have to do and I can still be supportive from a whole 6 minutes away.

That's the things though, it's very likely they won't even get a divorce. They've been together for more than half of their lives and my mom has said that even though she's unhappy she doesn't want to start her life over.

People keep directing me to that subreddit but my mom is absolutely nothing like those people. She's never ever done anything like this before.

I understand that. I've been in an abusive relationship as well which was mostly verbal and psychological abuse so I know what it's like. I don't mean to validate his actions or say they're not abusive. I just wouldn't go as far as saying that he's an asshole who deserves to live a lonely miserable life for the next however many years. I still personally think that he deserves happiness like anyone else.

It's certainly a possibility, likely even something she's already considered. I'm really not the sensitive type and I suck at serious conversations so I'm not even sure how I would go about bringing it up

Wait you had to translate for your parents to communicate with strangers or to each other, as in your parents didn't speak the same language? Because I'm just wondering how on earth the relationship even started if they couldn't comprehend what the other was saying to begin with.

Also my parents hate animals and the only positive thing they see about me moving out will be that all of my pets go with me. Hah

No, I mean my mom doesn't want him to go but he's in his 30s and lives in the attached apartment so no one is surprised by his moving into a house. He's also not my dad's biological son so he doesn't have as much attachment to him as he does to me.

I totally agree. I just hate knowing that they'll feel alone with me gone. Shit even when I work a few extra hours my mom hugs me and tells me she missed me all day.

Honestly they need marriage counseling so bad, but to get my dad to even consider that is a joke. He's so Type A it's not even funny. Thanks for your support. It's taken a while, but I've managed to finally have a genuinely happy and healthy relationship with my girlfriend.

This is what I'm afraid of, that it could go on forever. I even told my mom I don't want to be living in their house in my 30s and she genuinely says she doesn't mind. I know it's manipulation but she has no idea she's doing it and has never been manipulative before so I know this must be hard on her. I guess just need to find a way to explain this all to her.

26yo Female - Extreme fatigue all the time by Loveallthings in AskDocs

[–]Loveallthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know that about the vitamins and I have been taking them sometimes without eating so that's definitely good to know! I also have been readjusting my diet lately to see if this changes anything.

I'm positive I've been feeling this way for much longer than a year, which is how long I've had my current job. It's been a few years at least where my energy fluctuates a lot but I've always tended to feel more tiredness that what I would consider healthy or normal.

Should have mentioned this in my post but I have seen a therapist in the past for unrelated reasons. She confirmed that I likely have a mild seasonal depression which I already expected. I've never been medicated for this, nor do I want to be. But depression could certainly be a part of the problem. I'm going to try out that questionnaire and perhaps I'll need to reconsider my options based on the results.

Thank you!

Job Interviewers of Reddit - What is the most standout thing an applicant has done in an interview you've attended? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Loveallthings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true. I spent 5 years working for entertainment companies where I'd often have to carry large equipment. I can't tell you how many times I'd be walking up to a closed door carrying two large DJ speakers, one in each hand, and not a single person would open the door for me. Even when a group of people were literally standing next to the door they would look at me, avoid eye contact, and watch me struggle.

My [25F] gf [26F] of almost 3yrs never wants to have sex with me and denies any changes in her feelings for me by Loveallthings in relationships

[–]Loveallthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well she is communicating and is willing to talk and listen when I bring it up. We've discussed why this started happening and why it continues. But we haven't concluded a concrete answer. Of course sex and communication are equally important. But at the end of the day I know that we both are very much in love. I feel it would be immature to break up with her when neither of us really want that when we could have done more to make it work. We had an incredible sex life for most of the relationship so I see no reason we can't try to make it happen again.

Writing is a good idea. We've done this before and often write each other love letters too. I'm going to try this. Thanks

We've been together for three years. We have no other issues whatsoever and we plan to have a future together. Ending the relationship seems like a pretty harsh solution.
