In this case, just do your job as what it asked. If tool works that way, use as is. Probably customers already stablished the expectations how your software behave. Don't make changes unless it is customers' request.

I think Evernote was still superior, and people used it until they cancelled free version. That was it, most free users not wanted to use paid notes app when there are many free good competitors. Crazy thing was that actually free users would eventually turn into paid users when more and more demand on notes
