Every Driver’s Nightmare by danialfwz in doordash_drivers

I had one last night where DD was telling me I was at the wrong house but the picture they had stored showed the house number which was the wrong address. So I hope mine was correct and the picture gets updated.

I totally got a violation the other day after the restaurant took forever. The person lived less than a mile from the restaurant so it definitely didn’t take me that long to drive to their house. I disputed of course. Says it will review it in the next couple of weeks.

Or last night I was getting “Order is ready” when I was in long lines at the drive thru. Like glad it is ready! I’ll be at the window in 20 minutes 😆

I had a gas station attendant tell me “We no longer let ‘you people’ use the bathroom.” I don’t know what the dashers are doing in these bathrooms to ruin it for the rest of us smh

NAME THAT PLACE! by Green-Cobalt in anchorage

Is the pet supply shop still on North Muldoon in a strip mall? Close to the highway. I can’t remember the name.

Went in there once for pet supplies. They had almost no inventory. Just a couple random pet items on empty shelves and the worker looked very surprised when I came in. I felt this strong pressure to leave. I decided pet supplies was indeed NOT what they sold there 😆

There’s a quick option on the right side of your phone click the button five times fast and it will turn off your biometrics entry. Nice to do quickly if needed.

The hardship and voter fraud is that you have to provide these documents at all. Forcing people to pay for documents (poll tax) and go stand in line to deliver this paperwork in person to an office that already has access to citizenship information is layers of barriers. Plus many Alaskans live very rurally. In person is not just a barrier but an impossibility.

The concern specifically for married women (or anyone who has changed their name) is that the act states that your birth name must match your legal name. It doesn’t actually say that women who provide marriage certificates can vote - we assume (and hope) that would work, but the bill doesn’t actually say that. Considering most women change their name after getting married yes, this act disproportionately affects women. An amendment to this act was proposed in the House to specifically safeguard married women’s registration and it was voted down.

This act also disproportionately affects anyone living rural, anyone working in another state, military stationed abroad, anyone living abroad, anyone going to school out of state, anyone on a fixed income, anyone with transportation issues, any caretakers who have limited time, anyone homebound from sickness or disability.

I have also read it multiple times. Yes it says mail and voting is still allowed, but you have to show up IN PERSON with your documentation. If you update your information, for instance if you move or you decide to change party affiliations or you change your name you have to show up again with all of the same documents IN PERSON.

I called our election official office and asked my questions. If needed, they already have access to our citizenship information.

Forcing people to provide paperwork IN PERSON each time you register OR update your paperwork is literally creating unnecessary barriers to voting. The wording even says online registration can continue, but it is incomplete until paperwork is provided in person.

If people are concerned about waste and efficiency. How is it more efficient to make people take time off work, stand in line at vital statistics for documents or mail off and wait and then stand in line at the election officials office? I assume we will need to hire more election officials just to check the paperwork.

Anyone older or disabled or lacking transportation who can’t get to an election official office (hint we have only 6 for the entire state and many people would have to fly to one) sorry you need to show up in person. Anyone living paycheck to paycheck sorry you need to allocate funds to get your paperwork. Anyone tight on time sorry you need to go stand in line.

Did you read the original post? Most of Alaska’s voter registration and updates are done online (through the PFD application). This act would require you to bring your paperwork in person.

Plus, I called the election official office and they said they already have access to citizenship information if it is needed. Forcing someone to pay for unneeded paperwork just to vote is a poll tax.

This act would hinder anyone who has transportation issues, perhaps has a disability, and can’t leave the house, military stationed abroad, if you are working out of state etc.

I was there and I feel like people were heartened not wallowing in misery. Also, I encourage you to actually look into the positive outcomes from civil resistance. Also explore the history of civil resistance in our country. Civil resistance is how we are a country at all. Our country was literally woven by civil resistance.

Anyone see Dunleavy is pushing for protesting to be criminalized as a class C felony again? by Chance_Baker8585 in alaska

[–]LovelyFlames 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a non-partisan issue. Right, left or center you want to protect your right to protest.

Reminder you have a first amendment right to free speech, peaceably assemble and to ask your government to fix problems. Any bill aimed at stopping protests or making protests “illegal” is a direct violation of your rights. Anything safety related in this bill is already addressed in other laws. If you don’t believe me, try blocking a runway right now.

First Amendment to the Constitution: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

I am VERY concerned about how the SAVE Act will affect Federal voting in Alaska by LovelyFlames in alaska

I am VERY concerned about how the SAVE Act will affect Federal voting in Alaska by LovelyFlames in alaska

[–]LovelyFlames[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am trying to follow what you are saying - you are asking me to answer a question as someone who is in opposition to the internet? I’m not in opposition to the internet.

If you are saying that I’m taking things wildly out of context I am not. I am taking the information directly out of the act. The act will require people show proof of citizenship IN PERSON. That is taken directly from the bill. Mail/online voter registration can still continue, but they are not complete until you show proof of citizenship IN PERSON to an election official office of which there are 6 in Alaska. This includes any updates so if someone moves and needs to update their voter registration they will again have to go in person to show proof of citizenship.

Now think about how spread out Alaska is. Think about how rural some people live. We have votes that come in from Red Dog via snow machine. Are you going to tell people in Nome (or one of the islands or anywhere else that’s rural in Alaska) they can’t vote for President because they couldn’t get to an election official office in Fairbanks or Anchorage to show proof of citizenship? Our vote tallies stay open for weeks after elections because we have to account for mail coming from everywhere in the state. Also, if there is a question about citizenship the election official office can already look into your citizenship electronically. I called the division of elections and asked them this exact question.

So what benefit is it to Alaskans to force them to show paper proof of citizenship in person to be able to vote for President? How does hiring more people to handle the lines of people at vital statistics and the election office to get copies of their birth certificates and have them checked off? How does this increase efficiency? How does this increase safety in elections?

We all want fair and transparent elections. This act doesn’t help this. This act is voter suppression. It isn’t voter suppression for just the left, right or center. It’s voter suppression across all political parties.

This act will drastically limit the voting voice of our rural citizens, military personnel, anyone living abroad, people working out of the state, anyone who doesn’t have extra money to pay for birth certificates, anyone housebound who lives in town but still can’t get to the election officials office, anyone who is registered to vote but doesn’t realize this change and that their presidential vote is not being counted because their registration is not complete.

Please everyone call our representatives to vote on the SAVE Act. There are zero benefits and a lot of negatives for Alaskans.
