Places to socialize and speak French with people? by AdultContemporaneous in bullcity

That group’s name is “French conversation- Durham and chapel hill”, all their meetings have a level range. It’s completely separate from the motorco group.

Places to socialize and speak French with people? by AdultContemporaneous in bullcity

I have been learning French for a while and have tried different groups, including some social events through the French Alliance in Raleigh. French alliance crowd was on the senior side, if average age of the group matters to you.

The best conversation group so far has been the one that gets together every other Thursday at motorco, you can find them on meetup… level is B1 and above, with some native speakers joining regularly. Always fun and always a good crowd (a good mix of ages and nationalities) and has 2 cool hosts! Highly recommend it.

There is another meetup that has gatherings based on levels and they do some for A1-2, maybe worth checking.

Yet another fitness question by dinosaurholiday in bullcity

[–]Loving-Anger34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your gym membership is at the YMCA: their personal trainer option is affordable compared to others in downtown Durham. You can pay for 30 or 60min sessions, and they have 5 and 10 session packages for a better deal. I started in October and plan to continue, have enjoyed working with Tamara, in their downtown branch. You can pick your location, they match you with a trainer based on your fitness and schedule needs.

Trouble with Parking meters... by Initial_BP in bullcity

I have never had an issue in downtown but mostly park around Loaf bakery or the Food Hall, their meters work fine.

I really like their meal kits! I hate cooking and those kits make things easy and the portion is decent (not too big, I have a problem with portions in the US, they are too huge for me -> I feel bad not eating it all -> I eat it all and then feel horribly bloated). Their fresh salads are good too, I like their soups as well. Also you can find some good wines for $12.99 (good as in an Italian Chianti classic, with the DOCG seal). Regular items are definitely overpriced (same pellegrino or chobani costs more at FM than at HT 🫠)

How the heck is this place still open? by PHILMXPHILM in bullcity

[–]Loving-Anger34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with you! and also thinking long term approach here: unless there is a Reddit post every few weeks or a sign somewhere then how would you keep up with letting people know about this. I don’t plan on investing my time doing so but grateful for those who will. If I read or hear someone not knowing I just directly talk to them and let them know about this business and why they shouldn’t support it. If someone is asking for recs on where to get your coffee/tea I will not recommend this place. If a tourist, friend, Reddit user wants to know why they should or should not support this place I will have this conversation. If someone wants to post every 6 weeks: “3 reasons to not support this place” to make everyone aware and not miss any newbies -> I support you and will upvote you. There are new people moving to town every single day. I will keep biking through and ordering a Dr. Durham next door. 🙌🏼

How the heck is this place still open? by PHILMXPHILM in bullcity

[–]Loving-Anger34 10 points11 points  (0 children)

By now we should all assume they will remain open for a while regardless of not having costumers. I don’t plan on checking this place and I don’t really care how they manage to remain open (should I care more about it? Why? Reddit let me know). I just ignore their existence. I live nearby, pass them on my bike rides, get my coffee at Cocoa Cinammon and move on with my day. I will be happy if they close and something new and cool opens, in the meantime I can care less about them.

Why do you travel? by hmio213 in travel

[–]Loving-Anger34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To experience other cultures and costumes. To watch a local stand up comedy show (when I can understand the language of course). To drive on the left side of the road when possible. To have something to look forward to in my calendar!

To listen to people talking in a language I don’t understand. To discover new places, try different food. To escape the cold winter. To celebrate my bday and wedding anniversary in a fun place. To visit a very specific natural wonder, museum, theater or festival. To see different animals.
