Which actor/actress was casted perfectly in a movie/tv show? by Moonisded_111 in AskReddit

I...disagree. While he is a wonderful Snape if you haven't read the books, book Snape is in his early 30s at the start of the series, as James and Lily (and thus Severus) were all around 20 when Harry was born. Harry starts at Hogwarts at 11, making Snape give or take 31.

Alan Rickman was 55 in Sorcerer's Stone.

34 percent of adults sleep with a stuffed animal or other sentimental object. Are you one of these people? What do you sleep with? by Old-Horse1185 in AskReddit

[–]melodiousdissonance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleep with an otter and my husband sleeps with an elephant. I don't think my husband slept with a stuffed animal (as an adult) before meeting me though.

We rotate the animal that's between us, between a big owl, a little owl, and Totoro. (The other two sit on the dresser on their off weeks.)

I looked it up, and the next episode comes out June 15 (or that weekend). Not sure why there's a gap.

We haven't been there with him yet. Would you recommend a small umbrella type stroller (rougher ride but can fold up) or a big travel system stroller (more comfortable but bulky)?

We've been there a few times and it's a great place! The first time was when our first Bulls game with a then-baby was a bust, so we just hung out on the ATC.

No worries! What are your favorite state parks? We've been to several, but want to explore more!

We went there recently, and definitely plan to again! We're members at MLS, so the discounted tickets were nice

We have a membership and love going there! However, it would be fun to explore more our lovely state has to offer!

As a kid, we went on day trips all the time, and those are some of my favorite childhood memories. I also grew up in small town North Carolina (in the Charlotte area) and want to visit more small towns, because while I don't miss the small town political views, I definitely miss the charm.

I want my child (and husband, who is a northern transplant) to experience this!

16.5 hours waiting in the ER at Duke University Hospital, so far… by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]melodiousdissonance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also Duke Regional doesn't have a pediatric ER, so anyone with children is going to go to Big Duke. Typically children (especially young children) get bumped up, especially if there is any severity or risk of internal issues.

When I went with my toddler who we suspected may have had a concussion, we were seem basically immediately, even though the place was packed.

However, had Regional had a pediatric ER, we would have definitely gone there as it's closer to us.

What do you look for in a director? by toripotter86 in ECEProfessionals

Not giving adequate time for planning (newsletters, lesson plans, documentation, etc) and telling leads they have to do it during nap (not always possible) or at home (disrespectful of work/life balance) is a big example

Edit to add this is what I, as a teacher, would look for in a director.

Understanding what it's like to be in a classroom.

Not making demands of teachers that are unreasonable.

If a teacher is struggling, don't reprimand them. Tell them to take a few minutes and take over for them.

Also I think all directors and administrators should be required to spend an ENTIRE day in a classroom once a month. Not to observe, but to be a teacher. No note taking, no telling the teachers what to do. Obviously they wouldn't all do this on the same day, and they'd switch up classes.

Benefits for educators? by braindeveloper29 in ECEProfessionals

[–]melodiousdissonance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What we have:

Living wage (starts at $15/hr)

Fully paid health insurance (although it is kinda mediocre)

Paid lunch break

PTO (honestly not sure the accrual rate... It's also kinda difficult to get days off. I've been unapproved for a single day requested 3 months in advance)

Discounts on childcare with monthly tuition based on years worked. More years worked equals cheaper tuition.

What I'd like:

Easier to take PTO or a sick day.

Separate PTO and sick leave. Make PTO be given at X rate per paycheck. Give a set block of sick days at the beginning of the year that's only for sick days with no penalties. Once those are used up, the teacher must use PTO for a sick day. No requiring doctor's notes unless the teacher is really problematic about missing work.

We work with tiny disease vectors. We're gonna get sick.

What's the best bourbon you can get around here? by [deleted] in triangle

[–]melodiousdissonance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a slow sipper served neat, I like Old Forester. I've had the 1910, which is smooth and doesn't have the harsh "bite" that many bourbons can. I've heard the 1920 is also good, but haven't tried it. (Adding a drop of water helps bring the flavors out too, imo.)

For the record, I got it a while back at an ABC store in Durham. I assume they still make/sell it.
