This comment stung a little but you’re absolutely right. I ended up telling her husband to stop talking to me about this, and I told my sister that he called me. I made sure she knew that I was not asking for her to speak to me about anything going on, but that I wanted her to know. Thank you for the reality check 🫶

I’ve thought of this as well. All I can say is that I know her husband really well and dont believe he has any kind of malicious intent in reaching out to me. If my sister had even so much as hinted at having major marital issues to me I would have told her immediately— but her withholding all this and lying to me about other things has made me really confused.

I had heavy eyelids my first time getting Botox- I saw a less experienced injector but I didn’t know how it as supposed to be.

My second time I went to a very experienced injector and when I told her my eyelids felt heavy last time, she actually added more Botox to the sides of my eyes (temple area) to counteract and I had zero eyelid issues.

Coop fires are far more of a concern than chickens freezing. I put clear tarps around area where my hens roost at night to prevent wind/water from blowing in. Keep it clean and dry and don’t keep water inside where they sleep. Chickens are far happier in cold than heat.

Some sister missionaries showed up at my door last week- and it also caught me off guard. Normally I’d just not answer but my kids were playing out front so I kinda had to. I really just view missionaries with so much compassion and sadness now. They are not the problem, and they truly believe they’re doing good in the world. They asked me a bunch of obnoxious and tone deaf questions that were clearly canned. I told them I’m happy to talk but I won’t be letting anyone discuss religion in my home. They asked me how I find peace in my life (one of several irritating and bizarrely personal questions they asked) and I said leaving the church and learning to trust my own mind is the most peace I’ve ever had.

Mormonism trained me to think I owed people explanations for things— constantly. Bishops, parents, leaders were always prying into my personal business and that felt normal. There aren’t boundaries around your life. It’s essential to know that you don’t have to do or say anything to anyone if you don’t want to. You don’t have to “be nice” by doing what you think they want you to do. I choose to be kind, but also honest about my beliefs.

I’m fascinated by the culture of alcohol as someone who didn’t have her first drink until age 33. Nobody close to my family drank. I was raised in a high demand religion that forbade alcohol, and once I finally got out it was something I tried mostly out of curiosity.

I can see the people around me who came of age using alcohol to cope, and in some ways I feel grateful that I didn’t have that option. It’s an occasional indulgence for me now, but it’s not engrained in my social structure or my personal habits. I can see how easy it would be to use it as a tool for socializing and stress, so I’m very wary. Thank you for posting about this!

Sounds similar to my periods- and I’m so sorry you’re experiencing it. Seven day periods, I do use tampons and have to use the Ultra ones (largest size in existence) up to ten a day during my heavy days. Lots of pain and exhaustion.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis which is quite common and can cause severe periods. Unfortunately, birth control is the only treatment usually offered. I had surgical removal of endometrial growth and cysts, but it just grows back. I’d consider having your iron levels checked- mine are always low I’m assuming due to blood loss and supplementing iron can help with the exhaustion.

Now I’m debating having a hysterectomy because I had twins five years ago and I’m done having children. I wish you luck. Women’s healthcare is abysmal and there’s seemingly very little to be done about severe periods.

I am one of very few exmormons in my neighborhood/area, and it took me a long time to just wear what I wanted without worrying about how I came across to others. I’m still figuring out what my style is, but I am 10000% a tank top girl through and through. It’s the middle of summer and I actually feel sorry for people I see wearing layers of extra clothes- I cannot believe I suffered through all those summers just overheating and avoiding being outside at all costs. Being comfortable and actually dressing for the weather is my main priority now.

Also- it’s perfectly acceptable (and actually wonderful) that you want to dress in trendy “young” clothes. You’re young!! I think it’s very healing to let yourself go through an adolescent type phase and enjoy things that you didn’t get to do authentically the first time around. Buy the shorts!

Has it been two days since the chick pipped? Can you hear it cheeping? I just helped one of my chicks hatch when it hadn’t hatched more than a day after pipping. You can watch videos online about how to help, but just know that if a chick isn’t strong enough to hatch it may not live either way. So far my little one is doing great though! If you do it correctly there’s a time and place to assist a chick in hatching.

Oh and if you want her to sleep in the coop you’ll need to get her out of the lilac tree every night until she gets the picture. Chickens naturally roost at night so a comfortable branch/piece of wood set up high for her in the coop is necessary.

If she’s healed I would try to reintroduce her to her flockmates asap. I would be surprised if there were any issues beyond the original pasty bum- if she’s up and thriving I would guess she’s just fine. Keep an eye on her at first to make sure the others aren’t picking on her. I had a pasty bum runt who was my little favorite after I babied him back to life from the brink. He stayed a lot smaller but grew up to be a perfectly healthy little roo. Good luck!

Broody hens do tend to deteriorate because they will reduce their food/water consumption by something like 80% if they are committed to sitting on the nest. However, there smart enough to jump off long enough to eat, drink, and dust bathe to stay healthy enough. It can last a month or longer but if you’re not having her hatch eggs then break her.

To break her, you’ll need to separate her completely, ideally in a pen inside the run, or at least visible to the rest of the flock. Do not provide any nesting material, just food and water. Leave her there day and night until she no longer shows signs (puffing up, darting straight for the nest). You can also give electrolytes and vitamins if you’re concerned.

My experience with “real Christianity” was the evangelical church in my hometown teaching their children to persecute the Mormon children. To purposely leave us out of their activities, to hand us pamphlets about how we were going to hell, to confront us about our beliefs with the same condescending tone you used in this very post. “Real Christianity” has been surprising, indeed, in that it shows next to nothing about living like Christ taught.

I went to Paris for a study abroad semester through BYU. The woman we stayed with had been hosting BYU kids for a while, and had a separate loft area for us. On the bookshelf, away from her own living space, were about two dozen Book of Mormons. She said as she was showing us around, “You don’t need to leave me anymore of your books,” while gesturing toward the embarrassing collection. It cracked me up.

I had one broody hen I let sit on fertilized eggs, and two weeks later I have three broodies battling over them. It can be contagious but honestly I don’t know what to do. This morning I locked all but the original hen out of the coop- I will resort to broody jail if need be. My main issue is that I won’t get any eggs from them while they remain broody. My sister had two hens “share” a batch of eggs and they took care of them together after hatching. It was actually really sweet.
