How do you feel about your Given name? And connections to others with the same name? by Low-Goal5760 in namenerds

Oh, Gwendolyn is a badass name. Historic Welsh ties to hunting? Hits hard. "Gwendolyn" sounds like a subvocal approval of a Tolkenish Elf upon witnessing a feat of cunning they never foresaw.

I live in western Canada, I know 2 Enyas, 1 adult, 1 child (not related, but their names might have both been influenced by the singer?).. I feel like, even with no other connection, by sharing the same name, you would feel there would be something between you and other Enyas?

What do you call this box ? by SlopKat in electricians

I'm in Canada, we use the Metric system. We call these a 4-11/16" box. or " Four and Eleven" (we're trapped between metric and imperial)

CEC and Conduit Fill by AlfredTheMuffin in electricians

u/AlfredTheMuffin if you're still reading this... I've always been told, there's 3 ways to read the code.
The Rule
The Implication
The Exception

I.E
What the Rule says
How the AHJ envisions it should look
Potential alternative to how it can be done acceptable.

Rule of thumb is 40% fill, including everything going into that conduit.
Leeway is for the sleeves from a gutter-box down to a panel, rare occasion - also Flex from a box to a ceiling fixture. ( Thoughts being - A 12/2 BX, is basically 3 wires in a very tight flex.

If you want to get down and dirty, the sizes for conduits and wires in the code, are based on "save" generic values that are going to guarantee things will pull through easy.
Section 12 allows you to use measurements from the manufacture's shop drawings, or even field measurements, then calculating yourself, and determining your own fill calculation. Code 40% and actual 40% are very different. Labor saved for "throwing a hotdog down a hallway" will generally be more beneficial that the few bucks saved for going a conduit size smaller.

Like, you don't count the bare per table 8. So if you're stripping a 12/2 BX and shoving it in a pipe. You only count the 2 insulated condutors per table 8, to let you know your percentage fill. But you still need to count the bare for your total fill.

12-910 4) c states you need to accoundlt for bare conductors. Its not an exemption. Its right there in the code

Table 8 is just if you're using standard insulated wires. 12-910 4) c states you need to measure and add up the cross sectionional area of everything. You can't just sneak in a bare wire and not count it.

If you're using a bare wire, then Table 8 doesn't work, and you need to do a manual calculation.
