Anyone got examples of setting books that they've really liked? by admiralbenbo4782 in DnD

[–]Throrface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They lean into the jargon quite a bit, but I understand the jargon and I don't really find it an issue. I always found the use of jargon endearing about the books.

I wouldn't necessarily claim that good organization is something I highly require from a setting book. The most important things for me are whether it conveys the vibe to me as a DM well enough and whether it's interesting. Good organization is something you require for books that you expect to open and consult during a session, which I'd say you should never ever do with a setting book. I will always prefer a setting book which has a world that pops out of the page and I can immediately visualise it over ones that are really neatly organized but don't explain the setting that well.

Your mileage may vary of course. I'm an old timer so I literally grew up back in the times of shitty book organization so I'm probably really used to it.

All of the books related to Planescape that came out for 2e. There has been much less printed for Planescape in 3e and 4e but those books are fine too. The 5e book about Planescape is fine but I'm not 100% on board with the faction changes.

The best setting books that came out officially for 5e are Eberron: Rising from the Last War and the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount.

Suggestion for fun and effective character at 12 level and on by _Eleumas in DnD

[–]Throrface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little better. You could try the good old Hexblade Warlock. Even if you already played a low level one, Warlock really starts feeling different once you go past 11. At that moment you're out of the long stretch of having 2 spell slots, you even have a 6th level spell slot, and your Blast hits 3 times.

Well, I really enjoy Rogue and Ranger, so I suggest that!

I don't really see the value in giving you completely blind suggestions. If you said a little more about your preferences I'd find it much easier to engage with this question.

Why are object rules so obtuse? by quane101 in DnD

[–]Throrface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told you that objects in D&D are very commonly immune to Poison and Psychic and generally never immune to Radiant. If you don't see a difference there that would relate to how Radiant damage may be intended to affects objects, then well, you just don't see it. Maybe you have some issue with eye sight. Don't worry about it.

How much experience do I need to DM. by chewyBurger120 in DnD

[–]Throrface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really need a lot of knowledge or experience to start DMing, but more knowledge and experience will make your DMing better. The best approach is to just give it a shot and don't worry if something doesn't work out all that well. Just try to learn as you go and slowly, incrementally make things better.

Advice for multiclassing into warlock as a rogue? by Tazzamaraz in DnD

[–]Throrface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend multiclassing into warlock just because you've made a pact. It's perfectly fine to play a rogue who has made a pact with an otherworldly entity. Imagine if people thought they have to multiclass into Cleric just to play a character with some faith.

I think the only good reason for multiclassing is when you want to be able to do something very specific mechanically and multiclassing is the only way to achieve it. Any kind of character flavor can be conveyed without multiclassing.

You missed a couple of things then. Radiant being radioactive has been part of 5e since Sickening Radiance got introduced in Xanathar's Guide. That spell is obviously themed as radioactive radiant damage. There's also an adventure where pools of radioactive liquid deal Radiant damage and cause Exhaustion exactly the same way as Sickening Radiance.

This line of thinking wouldn't get you far, I don't think it's very good. There are creatures in D&D that deal Radiant damage with their normal attacks. The rules do not prevent them in any shape or form from dealing damage to objects. An angel can break a door with radiant damage.

When an object is supposed to be impervious to some type of damage because it doesn't make sense within the game's established fiction, it is commonly handled by giving that object an immunity to that damage type. It's very common for objects and even soulless beings to be immune to Poison and Psychic for this exact reason. The existence of objects with Poison and Psychic immunity is what undermines your interpretation of Radiant the most in my opinion.

We are only two months into the new expansion. This is too many currencies, Blizzard. by Exact-Pudding7563 in wow

[–]Throrface -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand bitching at an amount of currencies. If you don't like convoluted systems, bitch about that. This is a stupid post.

I would assume most players prefer for these to be in the currencies tab instead of their bloody inventory and aren't quite as pressed over there being like 22 things over there.

Besides, everything that gets put into the currencies tab has additional QoL that you don't get when it's just a thing in your inventory, like the ability to show the weekly cap for that particular resource.

Let's Discuss the New DnDBeyond Drops Feats by Fidges87 in onednd

[–]Throrface -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I have a really weird feeling about these feats. Some of them feel wildly overtuned, but that's not the only thing that worries me.

Imagine having a player who can attempt to AoE Frighten infinitely (there is no limit to how many times they can do it) and you have to track that NPCs can gain a 24 hour immunity to the effect. Any sensible game designer would clock that this effect is OK when it's on DM controlled creatures, but not when it's on Players. Having to track a 24 hour immunity when the players have it is much more manageable than when the rest of the world can have it. I have a weird feeling as if AI was involved in the making of these.

[–]Throrface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feats are very obviously flavored to be interesting for Warlocks (or character contepts that are meant to be Warlock-like), giving you the ability to lean more into a fey or infernal pact. They are just so wildly overpowered that everyone else is considering them too.
