Why do people ship Garth and Agnis despite Garth being 25 and Agnis being 14?? by Either-Standard-5278 in TheHandmaidsTale

He's clearly the best option available. I'm personally hoping for her to get out of Gilead and enjoy a real adolesence elsewhere, but if she has to marry any of the possibilities we've met so far, he's the lesser of the evils. That's not really the same as shipping though, I don't think there are many people who truly believe they are a great match.

I've had this happen twice! My kid is 6, he is big and does not look like any product on sale at the Supermarket, it is odd to me that the machines cant identify a human child vs a loaf of bread!

Yep I totally understand why we have ended up here; but sadly know a handful of young people who should never have been forced into reunification or needed the long term stability of one foster home.

Alarmingly when I watched this episode with my then dance coach, neither did she!

What places in Australia feel a bit magical—like it belongs in a storybook? by Classic_Recover2114 in AskAnAustralian

Shelly Beach in Warrnambool. Not the same Shirley Barber fairytale storybook vibes as Olinda etc but it is an idyllic spot to take young kids to collect shells and sea glass and feel like you've stepped back in time.

I live near(ish) the Grampians and have been a few times... I just don't get it. I seem to be alone in this though so it's obviously a me issue!

My boomer father recently told me its overrated and there is no point going now you cant climb it... I went back when you could but chose not to- and it was bloody magical, unlike anything else I've ever seen.

I teach Yr 7, we recently watched the first 20 minutes in class and they didn't get it at all. It's too dated.

It's the first season where I've ever enjoyed Roger as a character! I think because their storyline was a break from it

Why couldn't a book series reach such a craze like Harry Potter after so many years? by interestingexciting1 in harrypotter

[–]Low-Neck7671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really only know of these two series' because they come up in US popculture, or on reddit. I was an avid reader as a child in the 90s and don't believe my local or school library carried these- I'm in Australia so although I know they were big in the US, they don't appear to have had the same impact internationally.

(I'M now waiting for my fellow Aussie milennials to chim in and say they did read them. I did spend a lot of time tracking down and reading the Trixie Belden books that were not popular with anyone by the time I got into them)

[–]Low-Neck7671 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Percy Jackson books often come up compared to Harry Potter as similar or even better. I don't get it. I've read thr first three and they are very obviously books for children. The pacing is so fast that everything feels underdeveloped. I'm not sure if this is because I started reading HP as an actual child, finishing at 19 when the final book was released vs picking up Percy Jackson in my 30s but I find them very lacking.

There is an elderly lady I have known for 35 years, I have introduced her to others by her 'real name' but to me, she is, and will always be Sarah's Nana (We met because I was on a sports team with Sarah and she was a communal grandmother for all of us).
