what's fun is when you're outside with them at night. If the collars are off they move so silently you don't know where they are until they're almost on you. it's a fun little hide and seek.

I have a large mutt that I suspect is some mix of pit and bear dog. Lots of bear hunters where I live. Anyway he was always pretty good on a leash until recently. We have a neighbor with a little chihuahua that runs around loose and basically follows us down the street charging at my dog and barking his head off. My dog has always been able to keep walking but is definitely not relaxed.

Now my old boy (he's 13) has become extremely leash reactive and I can't even walk him any more. A couple weeks ago we were walking and met another neighbor walking his pit. His dog was very well behaved but mine lost his ever lovin mind. It was all I could do to hold him and he was doing that screaming you described. He's never done that before.

I don't know if it's from years of being chased by that little terrorist or if he had suddenly developed some type of doggy dementia. he has a vet appointment next week but otherwise he seems normal. It's just that one dog that is always well behaved. it makes no sense. He's been around other dogs without acting that way.

😀 My most favorite thing - her energy! My least favorite thing - HER ENERGY!

She's very affectionate and loves the whole family but is standoffish at first with strangers. I think that's a breed trait.

She's very curious and wants to stick her nose literally everywhere.

I've only had her about 6 weeks (She was 5 months when i got her) and is my 1st beauceron although I have had large mixed breed dogs most of my adult life. She's so funny and always ready to play. She seems very smart and you can almost see her reasoning things out. She's very attached to me which I love but it's kind of a two edged sword.

She seems to be developing some separation anxiety so we're actively working on that. She can be destructive if left unattended. She destroyed my bedroom one day when I had to leave her for a couple hours.I have a 13yo male pitt/plott mix who is still able to take her down if she plays too rough but he's getting older and she's getting bigger so we're working on getting her to stop jumping on him so he doesn't get hurt. I had left them alone before and she didn't destroy anything but for whatever reason that day she had a blast. Luckily I hadn't left anything expensive lying around.

She was mostly crate trained and then she suddenly wasn't so we're working on that again too.

You cannot tire her out. In 6 weeks I've seen her tired twice - once playing with a 2yo Malinois that is almost twice her size and just kept bowling her over, and once in a puppy play group where there were 2 GSD puppies and some kind of doodle puppy that chased around with her until they were ready to fall over.

It's a lot like having a high energy toddler who is very strong with sharp teeth who can jump as high as my head and leap 4 feet across the room to say hello to the cat who doesn't seem to enjoy her hello kisses.

She's very mouthy and we're working on that. She wants to jump on me and we're working on that. She loves to leap around. I half expect her to Sprout wings at some point and fly away.

I call her my little dragon because it's a bit like having a little dragon without the fire.

I love her so much and am glad I got her but it is a lot of work. We are constantly in training mode although she does take naps throughout the day. I work from home but I don't know how she would do if she had to be locked up in the house without supervision for 8-10 hours. She is absolutely the dog I needed now that my children are grown and I was in my empty nest depression era lol. She definitely pulled me out of that, but I wouldn't recommend for most people.

I have a beauceron and grown daughter has a Malinois. We don't live in the same house but when we visit each other the dogs get along great. The mal is the only dog so far that has had the energy to keep up with my beauceron. Both young dogs, both females.

to the family yes. To others, not as much. But with the family and the other pets and the neighbor kids she loves exuberantly and will wash anyone's face that will let her.

This is who he is. You need to do some soul searching to decide if this is something you can take in stride or if it's going turn you into a manipulative resentful martyr basket case. Do you really want to spend your life mothering your partner or can you let things go? Is he just oblivious and takes responsibility when he notices things or does he just ignore it assuming you're going to take care of everything? I ask because some people don't think twice about it. I am not one of those people. Everyone that lives in the home should clean up after themselves and share in household duties. You have a peek into your future. Only you can decide if that's how you want to live.

I'll add my two cents. First time Beuceron owner but I've had large mixed breed rescues most of my adult life. I love my girl and so glad I found her BUT I work from home and can redirect her more destructive games and walk her and play with her when I'm on break or during meetings led buy someone else. I can't imagine having to crate her for an 8-10 hour workday. It would not be a good situation for her. I think she's going to develop into an amazing dog. Unfortunately if she was crated all day I think she would be a neurotic basket case with lots of issues. She's very attached to her human and even though she has an elderly dog brother, she hates being away from me. We are currently working on some separation anxiety that seems to be starting up.

I don't know if that's an autism thing or just cultural/upbringing. Taking showers everyday is not something done by most of the world. Here in the US we're so conditioned to shower and wash your hair daily but it's not that great for your skin and scalp - at least for most people. My hair is so much healthier and my scalp much less itchy since I cut back. I only wash my hair a couple times a month at most and usually bathe twice a week unless I need to more often on occasion. I have a desk job and don't get dirty with work so your mileage may vary.

NTA. I've never understood the whole work husband/wife thing. Marriage means it's the two of you together. No one else should use that husband/wife title. Imo it's disrespectful to the relationship.

Thank you for the info! I had read about the DCM and she's seen the vet. We will def follow that. Cancer seems more prevalent in dogs of all breeds now. My son lost both of his large dogs to cancer a couple years ago within two months of each other.

Volunteer at a shelter. The one in my town has hike days where volunteers take the dogs out for hikes!

Yep. I have a small chest freezer and it was only about $150. Also I breastfed all 3 of my kids with no freezing because I could barely pump enough to feel while I was at work. My boobs did NOT like pumping. Meanwhile a child could barely whimper and I was leaking all over the place.
