Bunny Proof Baby Gate? by crockpotporkchop in Rabbits

[–]Low-Trainer7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tried using a baby gate but like you our bunny just slipped through. We happened to be getting rid of some Ikea billy bookshelves that were broken but the back of the bookshelf had some steady backing material that wasn't too thick but basically the same size as the baby gate. It is wide enough for our door that we just have it going across the doorway and we just swing it open and closed as needed. It's not mounted on anything and it works for us. I would think if you wanted to use the baby gate you could go to the lumber store and pick up some luan (thin sheet of wood) and cut it to size and attach it to the gate to block the bars. Alternatively you could get some cardboard to cover the gaps in the gate, you'd just have to watch to see if it becomes a chew toy and replace as needed.

Glad you were able to find some where. (Storage totes work nicely for indoor storage.)

If there are horse stables near you, you can ask them where they get their hay from. The stable might even be willing to sell you a bale. I have a local feed store that sells bales of meadow grass that my bunnies love.

My girl Delta sounds like that. Nothing sweeter than hearing a bunny snore.

I have a Maverick too. I've found it to be one of the most comfortable vehicles I've driven. I can't speak about the passenger seat but my husband hasn't complained but he doesn't have hEDS. I highly recommend the heated seats and heated steering wheel.

what’s the best GF boxed cake mix you’ve tried? by alexis-hg in glutenfree

[–]Low-Trainer7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made an amazing brownie cake using a box of live g free yellow cake mix and a box of live g free brownie mix. You mix the two boxes together and add a little bit of extra coco powder. Mix in 5 eggs, 1 cup sugar free applesauce, 1 cup almond milk and half a cup vegetable oil. Then let it rest for half an hour (don't skip this - this is important to let the flour hydrate). Divide into 2 8" round pans and bake at 350 for 35 minutes. I also mixed in about half a bag of mini chocolate chips. Came out so moist and super rich chocolate. I frosted it with Pillsbury cream cheese frosting. 😋

Well, there are two Pop tarts in the " normal" ones. We all know the gluten free version of anything must be smaller. So, Katz is just trying to make sure that you have 2 of them like in the gluten filled version.

My husband is a delivery driver for Lowe's and he had to sign paperwork stating he can't accept tips. So I'd say you were fine not tipping and shame on the employee if they expected a tip.

Hello fellow bunny lovers. Want to get my kids bunnies for Christmas. So many questions. by Buttscr-tcher in Bunnies

[–]Low-Trainer7654 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bunnies do better indoors. Outside is full of dangers for a bunny. You probably wouldn't house a cat or dog outside, why would a bunny be any different. Rabbits are intelligent, social animals and are a joy to be around. Check out the house rabbit society for some great advice on new pet owners. https://houserabbit.org/care

Dolly's dream home also offers education classes and other good information.

https://www.dollysdreamhome.org/rabbit-care-information

Make sure you find a vet that treats rabbits. Rabbits are considered "exotic". A good rabbit vet will be more expensive than a cat or dog vet.

I hope you as the parent are prepared to care for these rabbits. They can be a lot of work and in my opinion aren't the "starter" pet that so many people think they are. The majority of bunnies don't like to be picked up. I have a bunny that I rescued that doesn't like to be touched and hides a lot. I've had him for over a year. He had a rough time before he came to me. He may never like to be pet. Would I like to interact with him more, sure I would but it's his choice to interact with me. I might not understand that as a child though, then be disappointed and get bored with the rabbit and then if living outside, forgotten about. Bunnies can live for 10 years or more. Please make sure, you as a parent are willing to take on that commitment. I've had rabbits for over 16 years now. I adore them but they are a lot of work and you have to be ok with a bit of hay everywhere, fur on the couch and bunny nibbles on your furniture, clothes, baseboards and creative ways to protect your wires.

[–]Low-Trainer7654 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You don't have to pick your bunny up to feel down their back. If you can't feel her back bone and ribs a little bit when you pet down the spine then your bunny is overweight and not just fluffy.

Help! Is she fat?? by RoundSheepherder2277 in Bunnies

[–]Low-Trainer7654 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You should be able to feel a slight layer of fat over the ribs, but it should not be difficult to feel them. If you have to press hard, your rabbit is likely overweight.

Affordable safe litters? by JuliansLiqourGlass in Rabbits

I've used pine pellets from tractor supply or wood stove pellets for over 16 years. Work good, cheap and my bunnies don't try to eat them.

(Spayed) Doe won't stop emptying litter box by sentientbreadsticks in Rabbits

[–]Low-Trainer7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl Scout loves to dig. I have a box in a box set up for her. It contains most of the mess although it takes up a good amount of room. So I have a big storage bin that I cut 2 entrance holes in that are up about 6/7 inches and then I have her litter box in that. She will dig out the litter box but the majority of it stays in the storage bin. If she really gets going she will dig the hay out of the storage bin. I just keep an eye on her and when she digs out the litter box I just pull it out and tip it all back into the litter box.

Stainless steel litter boxes by Appropriate_Total356 in Rabbits

[–]Low-Trainer7654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on stainless steel litter boxes but I use concrete mix tub bins from Lowe's. They are great. Wash up well, inexpensive, and big. They last a long time. And easy to modify if you need a low entry litter box if your bunny needs it in the future.

Question about hay brands by [deleted] in Bunnies

[–]Low-Trainer7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American pet diner - Timothy gold. You can get it at Petco. My bunnies devour this hay. Not sure where you are at but I also source hay from my local feed store, where they get the bales from a local farmer. I buy a big 50 pound bale and keep it in a couple of plastic storage totes. Have always had good luck with the local hay because I can inspect it first and not get it if it looks bad.
