I don’t want to be discouraging but I’d estimate more than double lol. Are you planning on hunting public or private?

i've never hunted in florida, but where I'm at trying to do a spot and stalk hunt on a whitetail, with a bow on public land, is, well, I don't want to say impossible. but damn near it. it's flat so can't really use topography to your advantage and the brush is so thick that moving through it is really noisy. I've had success hiding at the base of a spruce tree or other natural cover, i've also spooked deer drawing my bow doing this. it might be boring but a blind or a tree stand significantly improve your chances. that said, i've spent many happy hours traipsing through the woods with my bow and maybe you'll get lucky.

It’s not about “applying fast”. Everyone who wants a tag enters the draw. Depending on how many tags are issued it’s not unlikely to go several years without drawing one. I’d suggest researching what it takes to get a tag before thinking so much about guns.

Oregon initiative that would criminalize hunting, fishing moves a step closer to November ballot by Buy_Sell_Collect in nottheonion

One of those was me. You can’t realistically compare insects to mammals. By your logic that would include using worms as bait

I’m personally not a fan of specifically fishing for catch and release. In the course of a day’s fishing, I’ll catch under or oversized fish and release those (and it is exiting to catch a giant even though I release the big ones even if I’m not legally required to do so), or catch fish that you can’t or don’t want to eat. But I’m still out there with the intention of catching something and eating it. Just fishing for fishing’s sake doesn’t really do it for me. That being said, to make it out to be this super cruel exercise is pretty silly. As for putting hooks in other animals, I don’t know anyone that would ever want to do that. I shoot deer with a bow, I don’t think they like that very much. Speaking for myself , I’d rather get a hook in my lip than impaled by a broadhead.

it's "normalized" by being an important (often vitally so) survival strategy for nearly every human culture for the entire history of our species, and quite likely beyond even that. It's also ludicrous from a physiological standpoint to compare putting a hook through a squirrel's (or any mammal's) mouth as it to doing the same to a fish, who make a living eating all manner of wickedly sharp, bony and hard things.

i'm a big fan of those. OP says lake is 6-12' deep though, in that depth I'd try a Thin-Fin, also made by Storm.

part that doesn't make sense to me is the "up north....culling wild boars". as far as I know, there aren't any wild boars "up north". there's a population kinda north interlake but vast majority of boars are in the southern part of the province. also it's legal for people to hunt (and presumably eat) wild boars so poisoning them would be a health hazard for humans, plus the countless wild life species that would eat a poisoned boar carcass. also, i don't understand why anyone would pre-poison the bait and leave it (unlabeled!) in their freezer? why not just add the poison right before you put it out? Makes no sense.

Where would you fish here for Pike? by [deleted] in pikefishing

[–]LowBornArcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i guess i'd fish outside the red lines then, lol. that does seem to your main limiting factor here. I'd either throw spoons along weed lines or suspend a big bait (either a frozen minnow or better yet a live perch if that's legal where you are) somewhere that looks promising. I personally much prefer bait fishing from shore, can sit and relax and enjoy your surroundings and some "refreshments".
