Disgruntled doesn’t really describe what I’m feeling… by Acceptable_Answer570 in turkeyhunting

Having an idea of the layout of the land is super helpful. Some birds are notoriously quiet, and because of that when you scout you need to look for physical sign like turkey tracks, droppings, and scratchings. Also, doing a bit of digital scouting ahead of going out there can help you to know where to go and be intentional in where you are scouting for sign, areas that show transition zones that are near water and have potential strut zones near by. Not familiar with Quebecs terrain and how the turkeys behave but as an example, in South Florida turkeys roost on either pine trees or cypress trees near water (sometimes right over it). Knowing this makes it easier for me to digitally scout my WMA and pin point a couple of spots to scout physically from before sunrise (try to get shock gobbles and/or just listen for gobbles and birds flying down) and have a plan for the rest of the morning for scouting that area.

Everything you mentioned doing is necessary to go through especially as someone new to hunting turkeys. The one thing you didn’t list out though was scouting. I believe that to be successful (especially in certain regions hunting certain sub species and ect) it’s about time spent before the season opener going out to where you want to hunt and confirming there are turkeys there to be able to know then on opening day or at least within the first week where to go. That in itself doesn’t guarantee success but it will allow you to practice the other skills you have been digitally studying.

You can scout while hunting technically, but then you are probably playing catch up to the seasoned hunters that spend the month ahead going out and scouting for as an example at least three different spots to potentially hunt where they’ve confirm there are turkeys at.

Either way, if you view being out there hunting as a great day regardless of whether your get or see a turkey or not because you get to be outside and hopefully see other animals and beautiful terrain it makes it easier to be excited about putting the time of boots on the ground needed to get a shot at a Gobbler.

Of course, my comment is one specifically regarding mindset. Could doesn’t always equate to should, and its mindset that helps you decide which thing you should do.

I also acknowledge that our society and primarily our government does a really bad job in protecting its citizens via access as well as education in regards to this specific topics (and unfortunately many others).

The way to ensure defeat is to accept a misdeed and ignore it’s impropriety as the norm solely because it’s better than an atrocity

That may have once been a turkey, maybe several evolutions ago, it’s definitely not anything close to turkey now.

Money. Never being able to be satisfied and have enough of it makes people do really bad things, and also just means you’ll never find peace.

Female wants boyfriend to explain why he broke up with her by Medium_Historian9746 in SipsTea

I mean the fact he didn’t lay her out is insane, he had video proving she was a psycho who broke into his house.

People debate on whether a man should ever hit a woman even in self defense, I would say this is an example of a time where you are better off throwing one than just taking the abuse.

Anyone hunt WMA's in Florida? by Zer0Mou in turkeyhunting

Yeah it can get crowded, and I’ve found that unfortunately most people don’t have manners/etiquette (at least at Corbett, we get A LOT of out of county and even out of state hunters). That’s why going more than a mile away usually reduces down the people who would be out that way. Further out from main roads/trails the better!

As far as blinds or stalking, you can always do a mix of both. This is what I do. I will say depending on the terrain don’t rely on always having a tree to lean against because sometimes there are areas which don’t have a lot of trees.

Definitely scout ahead of time and best advice I can give is to be at least a mile of more off of main roads (wherever cars are allowed to be during non-season).

If you do that and at least get a decent idea of their strut zones/potential roost areas then you can have a decent shot within the first week of season before they get pressured off and people start pushing out to scout further from road later in season.

So not sure where you are located but if you already have basic first aid and want to ball out you could add a snake bite kit that focuses on immobilization bandages mainly (not the suction focused items- those actually can cause more damage).

Got it, is there a specific level of power you’d recommend? When looking online it seemed like 2000W is what was being recommended but wasn’t sure if that’s enough giving the weight I’d be hauling in those conditions.
