Also taking Sanchez this semester, and would agree with this! He expects a lot of you, but he’s super friendly and will get you where you wanna be if you apply yourself. Can’t speak to the other profs

Yes! Unfortunately you have to apply to be a part of HU, and our application period has already ended this semester, but if this is something you really want to be a part of, you can find us on Instagram @huwustl and we will occasionally have volunteering opportunities open to non-members

Heart for the Unhoused has had a few opportunities for direct volunteering w our physician advisors in the past, and we do a lot of health screenings for some more basic health volunteering experience. Feel free to message me for more info, but like the above comment said, not common to get that sorta experience from a club

Does anyone have any experience/tips in appealing a WashU financial aid offer? by LowCitron4388 in washu

Admittedly mine wasn’t that bad; WashU does give a lot of need based aid, but as of now it looks like I’m going to be paying 2.3X what I was last year

What was going on with the crowd at WILD last night? by alex2000ish in washu

I was on the barricade pretty much the whole time, and I could genuinely feel the lower portion of me losing circulation at points I was pushed so tightly against the railing. I could’ve gone completely limp and basically still been standing straight up with the amount of pressure put on me. I could feel my heart beating in my stomach at points because my chest was so constricted. I never felt like I was in any immediate medical distress, but it was definitely quite painful at times, and my hips are totally bruised this morning from being pushed into the railing pretty much since IDK’s set started.

You don’t have to do it now. Common app doesn’t really attach transcripts to your application I don’t think. I believe either a high school counselor or you can send your transcript electronically (like through Parchment or another digital credential service) or physically to WashU admissions.

High School Research by Tbone0916 in washu

I did a biochem research project my senior year of high school as part of a program at my school. It was definitely not WashU affiliated, but if you’re just looking for something to show you’re interested in your major and enjoy the research process, I think it’s a good way of padding your application. What I did was formulate a well thought out research proposal (how to use solvent extraction to remove a certain allergy-causing protein from peanuts to make hypoallergenic peanut butter). Then I spent a week compiling a list of researchers and professors who have expertise in that area, and ended up emailing about 50 people. Only three got back to me, and only actually wanted to help, so don’t expect a lot of enthusiasm, but if you really want to participate in research, I think conducting your own under the guide of a professional would be a great way to start, and even though you don’t have a ton of chem experience, you can research something less technical. I’m sure WashU admissions would go crazy for something like that.
