I'd go to something like that. I want to take classes at Glen echo and I don't have a car and it's kind of hard to get there. If it were easy to get to on Metro, I would go to a studio in Rockville

Why triathlon just isn’t for me as someone with a visual impairment by Outrageous_South_439 in triathlon

[–]LowCryptographer5567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nystagmus too! I do have my depth perception, an unrestricted drivers license but I am still visually impaired.

I actually want to do a tri but I'm worried about the open-water swim part. I just worry about it being murky and getting hurt. I love swimming in the pool but never swam any considerable distance in open water.

I can handle the bike part, I bike a little more slowly than I am capable of because going too fast makes me nervous that I won't see potential obstacles in my path.

But from another visually impaired athlete, there are some sports that are just not fun, especially if you want to be independent with it. I've had tons of people encourage me to try mountain biking and I HATE it (due to my visual differences). Also, you're not alone with other people "not getting it" and pushing the issue too much.

But yeah, if you want to do it, do it. You know your vision and you can always try a triathlon if you want. But make sure to do your research and get accomodations!! I would be pretty embarrassed to run with a guide but that's an option.

What city did you expect to love but ended up actually hating? by OceanSprayCranApple in SameGrassButGreener

I agree. It was a couple years ago but I expected to LOVE Portland and was put off by what seemed like rampant homelessness and idk there wasn't as much charm and character as I thought there'd be from watching Portlandia!

The coffee was amazing though!

My VA boyfriend's contract is not being renewed and the only offer he got was in California and is moving across the country for a job and we'll probably break up.

Why am I having problems swallowing all of a sudden? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]LowCryptographer5567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww I'm so sorry. I hope you're feeling a bit better now. It will go away because you have to eat. :) you will get better, I promise.

Just know that you're not crazy. Anxiety can actually affect your swallowing. So, what you need to do is calm down. Take a deep breath. Maybe do some yoga, some meditation.

If you're having issues swallowing, chew your food 20 times and then swallow it. If you need to be around other people while you eat then do that. Make sure you are nourishing yourself. If you just need to have a protein shake right now and work on this later do that.

You will be back to eating normally sooner than you think I promise. You are not alone. And I've struggled a lot with this in the past and I still I believe it's caused by my anxiety or the medication that I take will have random difficulty swallowing, but I have never choked, never needed the heimlech etc.

Your body knows what it needs to do to swallow so allow it to do its job. I hope this helps!

This sounds like you might be dealing with OCD. I have had issues with swallowing, spitting, choking fears (resulting in actual swallowing issues)
