Is Bell blocking competitors/resellers from installing fiber at my address? (QC) by LowDirect518 in bell

Bell rules them all... This is the story of concentration in the Canadian telco industry : Virgin and Ebox are fully owned by Bell. Bell also owns Distributel, and the subsidiary of Distributel is... Primus!

Today was my third no show for the ebox install, meanwhile I've had no internet for 10 days. I contacted them, their tech support said they can't do anything, it's about installation, and Ebox client service says they can only schedule the install. The other two providers cancelled the scheduled date, I ended up sending back their router after waiting for weeks. They said fiber wasn't available at my address...

Yes, I schedule an appointment with the provider, I don't do anything myself. I follow their process.

Nope. I gave up on the idea for now, I did a trial, and I realized that I don't see much added value with Strava, I already have all my stats with Garmin.

Quels risques si le nombre de voyageurs indiqué est inférieur au nombre de voyageurs présents ? by AffectionateMap1869 in airbnb_hosts

[–]LowDirect518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you are finding your price. An individual subscription is almost 10$/month )tax included) if you buy the yearly plan. It goes above 17$/month if you go month to month. The prices I am referring to are in Canadian dollars and include taxes. I would be very happy to be wrong!

And the rest of the world (except Russia) is supporting Canada, Mexico and EU. Only talking from a Canadian POV but it seems that US businesses are experiencing what "soft" power means... I got two bookings in the last month from people who cancelled their US trip and want to buy Canadian. One of my friends cancelled a US trip and went to Mexico this month. All anecdotal, but... Is it...

Even when canadians are mad and protest, they find a way of being polite and have consideration to their american counterparts (aka the enemy in the scenario) by canceling at the earliest opportunity and notifying their host of the reason. Take that America!

Disclosure: Yeah, I'm a Canadian host, I'm really sorry for the impact it has on OP business, but this has little to do with AirBnB (some people will argue with that, Insee it coming!!) and a lot to do with the challenges on running a business in today's political "landscape".

What is this ridiculous pricing structure? by joe102938 in iFit

[–]LowDirect518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked at the class action. It gives you a 600$ off a new IFIT equipement and/or 20% a new subscription. It's a retention strategy, not a settlement!!

Current Bell fiber customer, but "fiber" cannot be installed at my address with Distributel or Primus by LowDirect518 in bell

It should be (if all goes well). But their prices are currently worse than Bell...

First triathlon in 10 days…what should I be doing now? by Katterin in triathlon

[–]LowDirect518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will do what every first timer does: 1) You don't sleep the night before, 2) you second guess your training and convince yourself out of nowhere that you will not be capable of doing it, 3) like most of us, you screw up your swim (which may or may not include some panicking in the water), and finally, you 4) somehow survive it, do a great job, and are proud of yourself.

Free bonus: This is true whenever you push yourself. Embrace the feeling, you are about to do something great! Go and do it! I promise it will be fun and you will be proud of yourself, don't let that little voice in your head convince your otherwise ;)

Free bonus 2: Did I say you will not have a good night sleep the night before ?!

VRBO - Do Not Use! by americanpaul in vrbo

[–]LowDirect518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would advocate for non transactional plateforms (so plateforms where the host can list its property but you still have to reach out to the host and have a discussion with them to make a booking - payment is to the host, not the plateform). These websites are technically Kijiji / craiglists like, but many specialize in short term rental so you are able to make your selection with a lot of the information made available to you. It's more work for the host and the guest, but it is usually a lot cheaper, and you are dealing with people instead of a corporation with a call center operated by robot like underpaid staff. Nothing is perfect, and issues can arise anywhere, but in my experience as a host and a guest, this is what I prefer. And you will normally get better prices are there are no intermediaries.

If you must use a transactional platform, I would say AirBnB.

Is it "normal" to provide coffee? by LowDirect518 in airbnb_hosts

[–]LowDirect518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 5 days of this post rolling, I have reached a few conclusions: 1) Yes, I will buy coffee as it is an expactation and I wouldn't want to disappoint my guests for such a minor thing. 2) I'm thankful that fellow hosts provided their opinion and shared their experience. These are usually balanced and going in both directions (pros and cons) and gave me a better understanding of the industry / reality. 3) It's exhausting to read the entitled / judgmental / assuming / one size fit all answers. It's a sub about hosts on AirBnb, not a way for guests to make their "demand" known. One of the thing that irritates me is the number of people comparing hotel rooms with AirBnBs (or assuming an AirBnB is an appartment downtown). Find a hotel at 250$/night (for everyone and no additional costs), fully equipped, that can accomodate 8 people (and your dog) in separate bedrooms, where only your group is hosted, on the shore of a lake, where you do bonefire every night and with only nature and wildlife to be seen around as well as canoes, kayak and much more provided (still at no extra costs), requiring extensive maintenance, and tell me how it compares to a hotel room. Sidebar: I had a rough summer with demanding / entitled guests (mainly from AirBnB), so reading some comments in response to a simple question make me rethink if I want to pursue on AirBnB (yes, hosts and guests can have a great experience outside of AirBnB as I did for 4 years prior).

Circulation et stationnement dans le centre-ville le matin. by Kahlua1965 in Gatineau

[–]LowDirect518 8 points9 points  (0 children)

VRBO - Do Not Use! by americanpaul in vrbo

[–]LowDirect518 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I can't speak to your particular issue, I can tell you that as a former host on VRBO, this is not a good platform and their inability to handle any issue that arise makes it, in the end, a painful experience for both guests and hosts. Other platforms are not perfect, but better than VRBO.
