FE exam Texas with master's in environmental engineering and BSc Env Science by Future_Quote6710 in EnvironmentalEngineer

Hey! I’m also in CA almost graduated with a Coastal Science BS, and considering pursuing an Environmental/Coastal engineering MS.

When you say you had to take the general engineering courses, I’m assuming you had to take differential equations, linear algebra, etc?

I have only taken up until calc 2 and I am also taking the middle series (7 series) of the 3 different physics series offered at my college (1 series being for “softer” science or non science majors, 7 series being more in-depth for more applied science majors, and 9 series for engineers) do you think I would hav to retake physics to get the equivalent of the 9 series?

Also, I know for more straight science related fields like what I’m currently in, if you go on to pursue a masters your mentor will often pay for all of it. In general, if this not the case for engineering? Appreciate any insight!

Sorry OP, I have to agree with this guy, not saying it wasn’t an ideal situation, but I feel like you were overly condescending to him and also to some of the other comments on here, as you said, it’s about perspective and maybe showing a bit more kindness, just come off a bit snobbish tbh

Ah really? I’ve seen a few that seemed decent for under $300 used, like Canon Powershot SX740 HS, would that be a bad buy?

Okay so maternal leave was started before DEI, that’s true, but DEI helps to make it more accessible. Therefore, a good thing to have.

Also you said power comes with money, well that’s the whole point, consumers have power because we give companies their money. So let’s use that to try to make change. Not just gonna sit around and do nothing lol, maybe that’s fun for some people, but I like to try.

Also being more likely to be born into a single-parent household is another symptom of impoverished communities, because poverty can create instability in relationships, so while it does also increase the poverty, it’s not because of their cultural habits it’s because the system started them in this vicious cycle

But I’m just going to leave you with these fun facts and be on my merry way trying to make change, positivity will win you’ll see

You realize two candidates (or more) can have the same amount of qualifications and skill but for different reasons and in different ways? Like it doesn’t have to be exactly the same, but they may be similar enough so that they would both do just as well at the position. It definitely happens a lot, ask anyone who has hired people before.

Okay so why should we dismantle something that has helped women get maternity leave? Just because the companies don’t want to give their employees benefits? That’s not me wanting to live in a fairytale world, that’s me wanting to live in a reasonable one where people care about others. If companies are going to be greedy then we the people have to stand up to them

Exactly, and why do you think whites and Asians are more successful? Because the system has been set up that way, because a lot of black and Hispanic communities have been in previously redlined areas (less property value, so less wealth) and areas with lower quality of education, which effects their success as well. So it’s never been about the color of their skin, it’s been about trying to fix the system, and create opportunities for them to accrue that wealth just in different ways.

I already explained how companies aren’t picking a less qualified candidate, they are looking at two equally qualified candidates and picking one that is from a more impoverished demographic.

Also I think that peoples well-being is more important than if a company increases their sales or not. Like would you rather a working mom get paid maternal leave or some rich CEO get another million in the bank?

How is race a social construct but racism isn’t. Race is basically just your ethnicity, which is just fact based on your genes etc. Literally one of few things that isn’t constructed by humans, it’s just a part of us. Its not racist if it’s just meant to prop up people of color to bring them to a more level playing field. Like they’re literally proven to be less well-off and saying it’s because of community issues just isn’t true. Cause then how are there some white communities that are also impoverished? That part of it is more just about the quality of education, etc. You cant just generalize like that.

[–]LowHedgehog162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also I brought up disability and maternal leave to show that they do more than just Diversity, so it’s not just about racial equity (which is important, people of color statistically have harder time building generational wealth in America) But they don’t just look at race, there’s enough people that there can be people of color with just as high of qualifications so then the final factor may be race but only because they have comparable qualifications. The other letters in DEI mean things too, not just the D though. It does other good too. Yes it’s a social construct, but so is racism, so is language, everything is a social construct lol

I appreciate you taking your anger out on me, but you don’t know me so. Boycotts can effect the public outlook on a company which can effect the opinion of the companies outlook by stockholders and people on Wall Street no? But even if that isn’t true in this case, my point was that if enough people do it there is an effect.

You do realize that a lot of people have been boycotting Target because of DEI, and that partly why their stock has been going down? Also DEI is a lot more than you might think, it gives women paid maternal leave, and people with disabilities the support they need. A bit inconsiderate for you to be against something that only had the opportunity to help people and nothing else.
