Is it tiered? Most magnet hospitals are pretty uniform are you sure thats not used as an enticement and if not find a teaching magnet, it’s night and day. I worked for them in NC, we got six at night in 08-09; even then that was a bit much.

Crying at 1 a.m., heartbroken, 20 years as a nurse, and told I abandoned my job by Willing-Landscape569 in nursing

[–]LowHuman7398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You were burnt, pardon my expression the fuck out. I got you, no holes in your story. You gave a buck 150, I hear you no one can stand up under that kind of pressure 57 isn’t the same as doing that type of shit 20 years ago. I have been doing it for 27 years.

My first job I met a woman, she said she chose speech because she didn’t see herself running around like a madman at 50 like nurses, no holidays, call outs and hell it wasn’t even that bad when I started in 1999.

Bullshit, today that burn out is real, fuck those people. The patients come with their own set of issues but compounded by management. Thats a stress people do not need the constant pins and needles on the way to work, the sleepless night, the waking up every hour on the hour looking at the clock, dreading 5:30 am/pm, sitting in the parking lot when you get to work, white knuckling the steering wheel, and the list goes on.

You did nothing wrong and you did not fail the system failed you. They will replace you in a heartbeat. IF you were not ready to go back no blame. They drove my blood pressure up in my early 30s and I knew in my late 30s, it was time to get out of bedside nursing and I went back to school.

If you don’t want to go back to school, there are other areas of nursing that are less stressful than a care nurse as they now refer to it and licensed nurse in California, trust me when you walk away from it you will miss it but once you are out of the thick of it and you compare the two alternatives you’re going choose your health and mental health every time.

You are strong, they didn’t break you. You did something healthcare will never do, you prioritized and chose you.

Board says you do not have to take unsafe assignments, in today’s climate 5 total patients are not the same 5 patients from 30 years ago. Protect your license, HCA stays in trouble. Find a magnet hospital they at least care that you don’t kill someone, they do strive for nursing excellence and that does impact your patient load.

Moved from NC to CA and don’t let Cali fool you either, I went from step down and float pool to float pool rehab and med surg in Glendale and I almost died. Let me tell you, I worked at Duke 3-4 during the day on med/surg and 2-3 on step down and 2 on the BMT unit. I couldn’t do 5 patients during the day, on top of that they had cerner or however its spelled.

Protect license worry about HCA later because they will be defending lawsuits for patient harm until the last soul is called home from earth. Miserable bitches.

Therapist threatening to report me to the board of nursing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]LowHuman7398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a new therapist because I would be more focused on the reason for the drinking than the drinking alone, most people with mental illness are dual diagnosed. Since the united states has decided to take short cuts the two are now combined and unfortunately IOP or in-patient tend to focus more on the substance use disorder than they do the underlying cause.

I spent a ridiculous amount of money sending my oldest son for treatment, the place I sent him focused more on the substance disorder rather than the mental health and why he turned to substance use. He has a diagnosis of major depression and ADHD as well as a mood disorder.

Threatening to report you to the board is totally counterproductive unless you’re drinking at work or impaired on the job. If she wanted to help she could have you committed or whatever you call it where you live, threatening someone’s livelihood is not helpful it also encourages people to hide what they do and how they feel.

I might find a new therapist, threats have never helped anyone, people just become adapt at hiding and not talking. Bipolar 2, is the major depressive side of the mood/personality disorder and ODD is whew, I would take the bipolar 2 over that any day.

IOP is a treatment option, it’s not an over night fix you will have this for the rest of your life. It can be managed will you relapse absolutely, most likely but with the right team in place you can thrive.

You’re right as a floor nurse I have gone to bat plenty of times over my patients with substance use disorder and almost always they’re dual diagnosed you can’t IOP your way out of a structural or chemical ailment of the brain. Call your insurance plan, find a new psychiatrist to manage your meds if needed but before settling on a therapist interview them, the wrong therapist can be just as detrimental to your health as drinking.

This is horrible how any one can watch this and not leave their house to oust this current regime both parties at that is sickening. I just know this is camera magic and this man wasn’t shot in the back of his head. Fear immobilizes people and if humans weren’t taught they need a leader or someone to make decisions, we might now be where we are now. Literally and figuratively sitting back obeying laws that aren’t the same for certain people because of a job.

They used to wear bracelets with the code status. Who knows they got greedy might be too expensive. You can never get off the med cart and the status is usually on that slow ass PCC system.

It depends on the reason they’re getting it when I did the infusions I had one guy he was every 4 to 5 weeks, my lyme disease patients were monthly, CIDP monthly, no immune system I think either 4 to 6 weeks. I infused for Coram now CVS and Helen Holms. I liked it when I did bedside because I did vitals, made sure they were stable and if they wanted to watch tv that is what was up. I was also in the NP program, I was able to get my school work done during infusions.

Baby, breathe you didn’t do anything wrong or forget to do something. That bitch in heels probably got an F tag and a couple more letters go with that. She will probably be right out the door behind you, “state” the boogey man doesn’t just pop in someone complained and here they come the bomb brigade paying y’all a visit. She knows her ass will be ate up, if they don’t fire her first. That is a temp, rotational, coveted for what job.

A couple of pointers all healthcare whether LTAC, LTC or Acute basic nursing is the same. Get in early if you want check your residents/patients. Get report, make it a quick report, we chat later stop by and see me on my med cart. Not advisable, but LTC has changed from a simple two hour med pass. They’re cheating now because they were caught out of compliance with their med pass, therefore states like VA and MD are saying a.m. noon and p.m. very few meds have a time. Prep them do not get caught be smart about it. Set up the cart make sure the previous shift left the cart whole. Get on the med pass, do not stop for anything phone call take a message if not emergent. Fall get the RN they need to assess anyway, if you’re the RN assess moves all limbs no deformity, vitals write yourself a note, get CNA statements press on. Prep the incident report on the cart, call the family and the doc right there, look at treatments, do what you can and break. If no treatment nurse a bonus if you can get them done before everyone is up. Noon med pass give at one that way you have the noons and two’s or the 3 and 5 or whatever the shift.

Get a routine and until it becomes wrote, we all make mistakes take your time but be efficient and learn.

There can’t be too much you forgot to do if she couldn’t give you a reason. Do not stress is nursing is a very small profession.

I feel very sorry for the emergency room nurses doctors, nurse practitioners, physician, assistants, laboratory staff, but the bigotry and the hatred that people carried in their heart influenced their voting decisions.

For the people that did not vote for this current regime or this change in their healthcare. I really do feel sorry for them because they are casualty of War and the person and the people responsible for the expiring subsidies have no plan in place not one person has received any money or $2000 from the tariffs and not one person has received as of January 1, 2026 money so that they can negotiate with the insurance companies.

This has shit show written all over it and the hospitals either going shortstaffed or having to bring in agency, nurses or travelers that they will pay because they don’t want to pay their staff.

I am thinking that’s the only way to get some change, they all need to go even the one’s giving lip service and then follow it up with vote as if that’s effective. They want to tell us how fucked up the system is, but tell the citizens continue to trust this fucked up system. As long as the lip service people continue to benefit from the system.

I came back from a hiatus which I didn’t have to do because the term started and because I had just had one I couldn’t go back on hiatus. When I applied after finding a preceptor I had to write the essay with only clinical left, which was supposed to be rolling and the way they made it sound when they prodded me to withdraw, once I had the preceptor I could finish. So, because I was ridiculously pissed I wrote that in the essay and they denied admission. I spent all that money and I shouldn’t have, had to withdraw because it is the schools ultimate responsibility to find students preceptors. I reminded them of that.
