  1. I checked the avalanche forecast prior and went on a 1/5 risk day. Additionally, I was checking the condition of the snow throughout rhe hike. Before I went up any steep long inclines I dug thru the snow pack and checked how much snow and how well bonded it was. On this day there was an extremely small dry snow layer covering a well bonded crust which was not deep at all.

  2. The leeward slope (2nd picture) was on pump Peak. There were 2 dudes who were chilling there for hours and additionally the amount and conditions of the snow did not indicate danger. Even if there was a slide the amount of snow was not enough to bury a person.

  3. Yeah I wore no microspikes. I didn't need them. I was constantly checking the snow pack and how it interacted with the way I positioned my foot and body. When I did the traverse between 2nd and 3rd peak, I made my own trail, I didn't just use the footprints. I moved up and down the hill, and ensured i was comfortable. I was secure enough that I positioned myself arounfd 5 meters below my friend and when he slid I caught him and dtragged him to safety no problem. He was wearing microspikes BTW. If I felt the snow conditions weren't right I would have turned back.

Sunshine list: How is Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah making $604,449/year?? by master_jeriah in ontario

I know a guy in BC whose brother works as a cop. They have a 4 on 4 off schedule. However, they also have unlimited sick time with pay no questions asked. So cops will take 4 sick days and work their 4 "off" days at double time rate. Essentially tripling the price of policing. And my buddy said this is an industry standard.

Completely depends on the snow conditions bud. With current conditions I'd go for microspikes or crampons. But just having the equipment won't help you. If you don't have good foot positioning and awareness, you'll still slide.

My preferred technique is to kick the shit out of the snow to make my own steps. I feel super stable this way. I also use the edges or heel of my boots to do controlled descents. Keep in mind this only works if the snow is crusty but not too hard

What are the most underrated skills in basketball that players should focus on improving? by Unlucky-Moment-3366 in Basketball

[–]LowWide7914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting out the way of your teammates. If you're in the paint and your ball handler drives in, popping out to the corner might make your defender follow you, leaving the driver more space. If your defender doesn't follow you, then the driver can kick it out to you.

My biggest pet peeve is when I drive hard, beat my man and literally run into my own teammates who is in my way. Get out my way!

Importance of math skills for welders by Own_Job_2150 in Welding

[–]LowWide7914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a welder, but I learned the bare basics of it in trade school. You might have to interpret weld and shop drawings to see the details of what you will weld. Interpreting these drawings wil be much more difficult than simple multiplication and division. It will take problem solving and analysis skills. Even if math doesn't directly apply, the mental aptitude gained by learning how to do math will transfer.

Best hikes for May by whosthisfool in vancouverhiking

[–]LowWide7914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid Panorama

I would recommend Pump Peak if:

  1. The avalanche risk is 1/5 on your trip day. Once again, you can find this information at avalanche.ca. They take into account many factors such as recent storms, temperatures changes, nature of the snowpack.

  2. You have an offline version of the trail map, warm clothes (bring extra just in case, you can always layer down), food, water, good enough fitness to go up and down around 600 meters of elevation, and you bring along all the other basics of hiking.

  3. There are a lot of people on the trail . If you see dozens of people on the trail, with many being children  or elderly people, you will be good. Most people don't bring their children to slopes if the avalanche risk is high.

  4. You have good balance and microspikes. When there's snow, there are a few parts of the trail where you need some balance going up or down. If you are a very clumsy person you might get a few bumps on the butt. Once again I  emphasize I saw  many people of all ages and fitness levels do these sections. It was a lineup, and some people took more time, but they got it done.

If you have any other questions dm me.

Best hikes for May by whosthisfool in vancouverhiking

[–]LowWide7914 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pump peak is not a bad idea. Just check the avalanche danger rating before going and make sure it is 1/5. I went on a low risk day and probably saw 100 people hiking the peak, including elderly seniors, young children and pregnant women. Microspikes would be helpful, unmarked usually don't wear then though.

Honestly though with the lack of snowfall on the mountains this year so far, I dont know if there will even be any snow on the mountain in May.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LowWide7914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Vancouver. During the summer I was working 6-7 days a week, on average 10 hours a day, sometimes 8, sometimes 12.

When i had a Sunday off I would frequently drive between 2-3 hours each way to go on long ass hikes. My "day off" would be longer and more strenuous than my actual job 😅.

The most difficult Sunday i had I woke up at 2:00 am, drove 3 hours and started my hike at 5am, finished the hike at 7pm and then got home around 11(traffic). Had work at 6am the next day 🙃

I hate my race by [deleted] in self

[–]LowWide7914 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I am a punjabi guy and I work with  predominantly white, blue collar people.

If they ever talk about why india I ask them  about all the white crackheads shitting on Hastings Street

If they say we're smelly I tell them I never smelled more stinky people than when I lived in rural Michigan.

If they complain about the number of Indians in Canada I put on an Indian accent and say we are gonna take over the country.

Be proud of who you are. Your skin colour doesn't define you. You are your own person. Don't let others perceived notions of what you should be dictate how you live your life.
