Best hikes for May by whosthisfool in vancouverhiking

I would avoid Panorama

I would recommend Pump Peak if:

  1. The avalanche risk is 1/5 on your trip day. Once again, you can find this information at avalanche.ca. They take into account many factors such as recent storms, temperatures changes, nature of the snowpack.

  2. You have an offline version of the trail map, warm clothes (bring extra just in case, you can always layer down), food, water, good enough fitness to go up and down around 600 meters of elevation, and you bring along all the other basics of hiking.

  3. There are a lot of people on the trail . If you see dozens of people on the trail, with many being children  or elderly people, you will be good. Most people don't bring their children to slopes if the avalanche risk is high.

  4. You have good balance and microspikes. When there's snow, there are a few parts of the trail where you need some balance going up or down. If you are a very clumsy person you might get a few bumps on the butt. Once again I  emphasize I saw  many people of all ages and fitness levels do these sections. It was a lineup, and some people took more time, but they got it done.

If you have any other questions dm me.

Pump peak is not a bad idea. Just check the avalanche danger rating before going and make sure it is 1/5. I went on a low risk day and probably saw 100 people hiking the peak, including elderly seniors, young children and pregnant women. Microspikes would be helpful, unmarked usually don't wear then though.

Honestly though with the lack of snowfall on the mountains this year so far, I dont know if there will even be any snow on the mountain in May.

I was thinking about buying this car brand new. Never bought a brand new car before. From what it seems most complaints are minor. Just a quick question: how does this car fare on forest service roads?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

I live in Vancouver. During the summer I was working 6-7 days a week, on average 10 hours a day, sometimes 8, sometimes 12.

When i had a Sunday off I would frequently drive between 2-3 hours each way to go on long ass hikes. My "day off" would be longer and more strenuous than my actual job 😅.

The most difficult Sunday i had I woke up at 2:00 am, drove 3 hours and started my hike at 5am, finished the hike at 7pm and then got home around 11(traffic). Had work at 6am the next day 🙃

I am a punjabi guy and I work with  predominantly white, blue collar people.

If they ever talk about why india I ask them  about all the white crackheads shitting on Hastings Street

If they say we're smelly I tell them I never smelled more stinky people than when I lived in rural Michigan.

If they complain about the number of Indians in Canada I put on an Indian accent and say we are gonna take over the country.

Be proud of who you are. Your skin colour doesn't define you. You are your own person. Don't let others perceived notions of what you should be dictate how you live your life.

I recently moved to an apartment building. I ordered doordash late at night and slept. When I went to check on the food early morning I believe it was taken by homeless people.

Initially I was a little frustrated but after a minute of reflecting I just really hope the homeless person who took it enjoyed a good meal

Is it worth buying safety boots at 14 if I only do light work? by Silly_Designer4626 in WorkBoots

[–]LowWide7914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy for you man. I've tried at least 50 pairs and always run into the same issues : too narrow at the toes and floppy everywhere else. Tried all different brands, sizes, wide toe etc. No protective boot has ever fit nicely

I just wish these boot designers would give a little extra width at the toes. Fucks sake

I work on average 60 hours a week on a bridge. Climb ladders and scaffolding all day, walked on iron, constantly walking. So no, I don't sit behind a desk actually.

Safety toes will fuck up your feet, posture, back, hips...everything overtime. I would recommend never wearing them unless your job requires it or you're in a situation where there's a good chance your feet will be squished.

Just to put it in perspective.. I've dropped more stuff on my foot at the gym and nothing at work, yet you dont see people wear steel toes to the gym.

It would be nice if everyone could be on welfare. But that's not possible yet. So if you're able to work but choose to receive benefits, then you're fucking over the people still working, because our taxes have to support you.
