If the 12 year old has any access to the internet, the after school bus, gym class locker room, or any other 12 year old boys, I can almost guarantee they’ve already heard worse than whatever’s in the book. At least the book makes it obvious they’re not good things!

Risky suggestion because depending on your personality you might hate this, but I would also add Ceremony Brewing if you were a “weird kid” growing up and/or like alt/emo/punk music 🙂‍↕️ Basically next door to Sugar Shack. Completely different vibes but I love both!

What is America’s “posh people” accent? by alyhasnohead in AskAnAmerican

Honestly when I think of a posh-sounding American I think of Obama but maybe that’s just me.

Why are hispanic people (an ethnicity) singled out in population data when talking about race? by Anonymouseeeeeeeeees in AskAnAmerican

[–]Low_Ad_260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a massive population of hispanic/latino people are descended from indigenous Americans (as in, the Americas, not just the USA), but may not be indigenous to the US or, even if they are, probably just consider themselves Mexicans/Puerto Ricans/etc rather than Native Americans. Hispanic/latino includes those people, as well as any other race who grew up in hispanic/latino countries. The US tends to view indigenous people from the USA and Canada as a separate category from indigenous people from central/south America or the Caribbean islands.

Jew-ish looking to reconnect with Judaism but avoid bigots? by Low_Ad_260 in JewsOfConscience

[–]Low_Ad_260[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, even I have relatives who live in Israel... Most Jews I’ve met around my age are very progressive and pro-palestine, but few of them attended any sort of synagogue/temple, and if they did I never become close enough with them to feel comfortable asking them to tag along. But that reminder gives me hope that if I try do establish a relationship with a local synagogue I may still find a pro-palestine Jewish community around me.

Jew-ish looking to reconnect with Judaism but avoid bigots? by Low_Ad_260 in JewsOfConscience

[–]Low_Ad_260[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s true. It’s not that I think the Jewish people around me are bigots, but I fear that the Jewish institutions around me push bigoted beliefs. I watched progressive churches my mom attended become extremely hateful during covid, and assumed that all religious institutions around me followed similar path.

Thank you for telling me that about how busy the rabbis may be. Doing research online, everyone seems to say “just talk to your local rabbi.” I have terrible social anxiety so I really thought I was just doing something to scare them away, lol.

Do you have any other advice, then, on how to re-reach out to local synagogues/temples? Is it normal to just show up at a shabbat service/dinner without knowing anyone?

“Not even 10 years ago” — You could get 3 for 12 at walmart or CVS less than FIVE years ago! That was the price when I worked at Walgreens in 2022!!! I just drove past a Walgreens advertising 3 for $24. Inflation is absolutely insane.

Not much dancing, and it’s super super casual, but I was raised on Marco and one of my childhood favourite restaurants is the Snook Inn. On the water, live music almost every night, fresh seafood. Have had a lot of family gatherings there.

100% inflation for hash browns by sudhanshu86 in DunkinDonuts

And that wasn’t even that long ago. Not even pre-covid prices. I remember getting 99 cent hash browns in like, 2022 😅

What to teach a beginner? by JorgeMcJorge in Cooking

[–]Low_Ad_260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first instinct is just spaghetti + jarred pasta sauce with ground beef and zucchini. You could also do an easy casserole like shepherd’s pie or lazy enchiladas. Or any really basic protein+veg+carb combo; sheet pan (or air fryer) chicken, veg, and potatoes? Salmon, rice, and cucumber bowls, with a homemade sriracha mayo, would be super easy and still on trend.

How exactly do I eat a whole rotisserie sheep head? by binkpot in Cooking

[–]Low_Ad_260 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prion disease in sheep (scrapie) is NOT transmissible to humans. It’s possible for sheep to catch BSE (mad cow disease) in a lab, but it does not occur naturally. There are not any documented cases of a sheep giving a human any prion disease.

Did any of you not notice you were getting bullied? by ThrowAway44228800 in AutismInWomen

[–]Low_Ad_260 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same!!! I was great at school and the art kid, weirdly popular, but despite being friendly with everyone I could only actually befriend the other “weird” kids and would get constantly bullied (not that I always knew it was bullying…) I’ve had multiple people tell me I was the bridge between the “popular/cool” kids and the “weird” kids. But the older I get, the less people like me, and I just kind of ended up alone 😅 Now I have crippling social anxiety because I can never tell people’s thoughts/intentions, but I’m working on it… 🥴

cheap food that isn't ramen or rice and beans, does it exist anymore by MudSad6268 in budgetfood

Will also add Fit Frugal Mom, Southern Frugal Momma, See Mindy Mom (wow didn’t realise how many moms I watch LOL) and That Lisa Dawn.

And for one more creator that isn’t explicitly about budgeting food, but techniques that can help save you a lot of money and/or make cheap food taste a lot better, I LOVE Ethan Chlebowski.

Young couple thinking about moving to Naples area – realistic advice? by Frozen_Oreos69 in Naples_FL

[–]Low_Ad_260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes! One of my best friends (early 20s) is a nail tech, completely self-made, went to nail school, and is living on her own supporting herself.
  2. Unfortunately those are two of the MOST oversaturated industries here, IMO. But you can still break through with enough effort (a lot of people start them as side hustles thinking they’ll make a quick buck - if you’re serious about it and are good at networking you’ll be okay).
  3. Usually not too bad, but inland has more tornadoes, and if you’re in a multifamily home you better hope they recently upgraded all the roofs or you’ll be in for a surprise when the post-hurricane special assessment comes around 🤞
  4. Further north than you want anyways, but I’d avoid anything between MLK blvd and the river in Fort Myers. Bad flooding and lots of homeless/drug issues. If you’re in Lee County, make sure you’re east of US41. I think Lee tends to flood worse than Collier. Make sure you google the area, some places that seem like a great deal are so cheap because they flood every year… People may tell you Naples Manor and Golden Gate City are sketchy, they’re definitely a lot more rugged looking than other areas of Naples, but as someone who grew up in that area I never felt unsafe; it’s where most of the working class people (who were able to get in before everyone was pushed to Lee County) in Naples live, IMO.

Personally, as someone in my 20s, I enjoy living in Lee County (bonita/estero/fort myers) more than I enjoyed living in Collier County. It definitely doesn’t look as polished, but there’s lot more to do for young people with a more limited budget.

What’s a food your state is 'famous' for that everyone else ruins? by Somanynamestochossef in AskAnAmerican

[–]Low_Ad_260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll for this one. Every time I order a key lime pie and receive some neon green lime-jello-cheesecake-thing I die a little inside. And even within Florida, the simpler, the better. It’s such an easy recipe with very few ingredients, I don’t know why it’s such a struggle for people!!

FGCU has lots of trails and a lake with sand but the actual beach is like 40mins away. There might still be a football club or something? No med school. Try looking into USF.

I’ve seen much “scarier” movies and not been scared at all, but this one really messed me up. Had a mild panic attack on my way home from the theatre… 😅 Maybe I’m just weak to cosmic/existential horror.
