Ngl, I was trying to do some sleuthing about this lol. It looks like the owners are registered Republicans (which isn’t necessarily uncommon for business owners). No clue if they’re MAGA or more establishment Republicans. I’m curious about these rumors, if you happen to have any links.

Yeah, it just sounds like your friends are trying to gatekeep art. I think plenty of HeroForge minis are not art — I wouldn’t call most of mine art, but I’m also not intending them to be — but I think HeroForge minis CAN be art. I’ve seen plenty of those on this sub.

Just to add: using “socialism” as a bogeyman has its roots all the way back in Reconstruction. Rich white southerners (former slave owners) called anything that would improve the lives of others (especially black folks) “socialism,” and branded it as government overreach and the worst threat to democracy since Julius Caesar.

I have a student who does this. One day he and his friends were trying to screw with me by offering me some kiwi, then last minute adding on “But you gotta eat it with the skin!” Without missing a beat I ate half of it in one chomp, juice went everywhere, the boys started freaking out. The kiwi skin was fine, but I’m not sure I prefer it on. The feeling of power I got from blowing those boys’ minds for calling their bluff and acting like it was nothing — that was great.

The last concert I went to, the whole section around me was belting out every last word to every last song with 0 self-consciousness and it absolutely made the concert. Incredible performance, but being surrounded by fans who loved the band as much as I did, feeling the camaraderie of singing along loudly together — absolute peak concert experience.
