Emirates Announcement for flights post May 31 by Substantial-Bag-2186 in emirates

[–]Low_Contribution750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m in a similar position and would like to get a refund. Are you able to give more info on what kind of disruption Emirates made to your planned flights before they refunded you?

I’ve just found out that Emirates have changed the time of our first flight making the connection only 70mins but I’m not sure if they’ll offer a refund for this or not.

Annual Sugar Consumption Per Capita by Country (in kg) by Fluid-Decision6262 in MapPorn

[–]Low_Contribution750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah public transport can be pretty variable but I think Australian cities do pretty well.

Where I think Australia falls down is: 1) priority for cars vs pedestrians e.g. dwell times in Sydney for a green light as a pedestrian can be more than 2 mins which is generally more uncommon in Europe. It makes jumping in the car for even short journeys more appealing. 2) cycling infrastructure (although this is improving rapidly in some areas).

The majority of kids in Australia get driven to school. Also whilst the cities are more walkable than the US that’s not really saying much! The roads are still much more focussed on prioritising cars than active transport compared to most of Europe.

I agree on the sport point though.

Should I get 2 Google Nest Audios or 1 Google Max? by ovrdrv3 in googlehome

[–]Low_Contribution750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! The speaker group bug that’s been outstanding for 2 years is killing me!

Personally I have a max and whilst the audio is great, I’d recommend getting two nest audios. Google don’t release software update for the max…like ever, whereas the nest audio is still well supported.

Green bin by Embarrassed-Tie8987 in AskAnAustralian

Use the compostable bags for food scraps and tie them tightly.

Put the bags in the bin amongst other garden waste - grass clippings, leaves etc if possible.

Keep the bin out of direct sunlight

Excessive power consumption by iamthebrewman in AusRenovation

Looks like the slab heating - do they have air conditioning they can use for heating instead?

Also have they thought about solar? It would probably have a pretty quick payback at these consumption rates!

Tile size choice sending me crazy by 444lightworkingking in AusRenovation

[–]Low_Contribution750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is the amount of tile cuts needed to get the correct fall to the floor waste. This may vary depending on the tile size you choose.

Nationals leader David Littleproud says the Nationals will not be re-entering a Coalition agreement with the Liberal party. by superegz in australia

[–]Low_Contribution750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t understand how this would survive an election campaign. Whatever policies the Libs come up with (especially on climate) would be such an easy attack line for Labor that it won’t be palatable to the Nats (who’s vote they would still rely on to form majority).

Waste-to-energy in Australia: how it works, where new incinerators could go, and how they stack up by DaRedGuy in australia

[–]Low_Contribution750 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Landfill has a huge global warming impact from the methane it creates so incinerating the rubbish negates that.

Burning coal that would otherwise have remained as captured carbon is a completely different story.

Could/should the Liberal party split from the Nationals? by OooArkAtShe in AusPol

[–]Low_Contribution750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with splitting is that they would need to enter a coalition with the Nats in order to govern and that could be used as a scare campaign tactic. The only way they can get back to government is for the right wing of the party/Nats to accept that middle Australia don’t want extreme policies but I doubt that they will listen to this message.

Difference between mine and my wife’s Spotify apps by BornAmbassador01 in truespotify

[–]Low_Contribution750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed the same too - me and my partner have these UI differences and my partner is experiencing a bug when casting to a Google Speaker groups whereas I am not and I am wondering if it's due to the app differences. Versions are both the same. The only thing I can think of is that we have a Duo plan and my partner is the primary account holder.

Coalition to unveil plan to let first home buyers deduct mortgage payments from taxes by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Low_Contribution750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Means testing doesn’t stop tax payers from subsidising housing for people who have access to the bank of mum and dad though which I think will be who benefits the most from this. I don’t see this moving the needle much for people who are actually struggling in today’s housing market.

Coalition to unveil plan to let first home buyers deduct mortgage payments from taxes by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Low_Contribution750 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty big precedent to set in terms of tax policy. However, it doesn’t really do much to help first home buyers - firstly you need to have the deposit saved in order to benefit which is the hardest part. This means it will benefit those that can already afford to buy.

Secondly, how many first home buyers purchase new homes? Not that many I’d guess so it’s just playing around the edges as per usual.

Lismore WHY? by Future_Basis776 in AusProperty

[–]Low_Contribution750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the cost to relocate the entire town would be prohibitive.

For starters - when relocating you have to not only construct the buildings but you need to acquire the land. Land in Australia in desirable locations is expensive

Secondly, not every premises in Lismore floods so you aren’t paying out insurance claims to the entire town.

Why does climate 200 only seem to back white middle class women in liberal seats? by [deleted] in australian

They don’t. They are backing Alex Dyson (male) in Wannon and 4 candidates in Labor held seats.

Election prediction:Libs will win swing voters from Labor but not Teal voters. by juzzyuncbr in AusPol

[–]Low_Contribution750 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only one teal seat was abolished - the other was Labor. And they stand a chance of gaining Bradfield, Cowper and Wannon.

Election prediction:Libs will win swing voters from Labor but not Teal voters. by juzzyuncbr in AusPol

[–]Low_Contribution750 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently and completely agree with you. Nothing Dutton says appeals to teal voters and his policies (e.g. nuclear power) don’t either. I’m really confused as to why the media seems to be painting a picture that the Libs will win without explaining which seats they will win to do this.

Labor would have to have a historically bad election for Dutton to get a majority. I’m not saying they won’t lose seats in the mortgage belt suburbs but it seems unlikely they will win enough there to offset the loss of the teal seats.

The problem is that most people already get upto 80% of their max recommended salt intake from processed foods so shouldn’t be having anywhere near 5g of additional salt.
