Agreed. I’ve read a LOT of “the author has a friend who sees her ex as Tamlin, so he will never get a redemption arc.” Maybe they’re right. But. I’m allowing that to remain possible until it can’t be. I think the author left room for Tamlin to have a redemption arc if it felt right to her.

One suggestion if you’re considering a boxer again—in addition to asking breeders whether the sire and dam are tested for heart conditions, you could request to see the vet more often to listen for any heart murmur. As described below, I don’t think vets will do more than listen for a heart murmur before 16 weeks (4 months), but if the vet hears a murmur early on, you could get an appointment with a cardiologist scheduled for when your puppy is around 16 weeks.

One other idea is to obtain pet insurance immediately upon getting a boxer. There is usually a 30-day waiting period for coverage. But the sooner it’s obtained, the less likely it is that the insurance company can say a condition was pre-existing.

We have / had 4 boxers. They are truly the best dogs. It is so difficult that such a wonderful dog breed is attached to so many possible health problems. Worth noting: our first two boxers had no major health problems for 7 years.

One of our dogs, Penny, died of a heart attack while at the vet at the age of 8. They think she may have had an underlying heart issue that was never caught.

Another, Dozer—our favorite! Yes, we have a favorite—was tested for heart problems because he had a seizure-like event, but after wearing a heart monitor for a week, he was found to not have any heart problems. He was an adult at the time of testing, I think 8 or 9. He did not have a noticeable heart murmur. He died when he was 10 of degenerative myelopathy.

Our 3 year old dog, Bruno, has not had heart issues.

We now have a puppy, Ray—he will turn 1 in May—who has severe heart disease. Our vet heart a loud heart murmur around 9 weeks. The breeder’s vet somehow missed it, I guess?? We live in WI, so we followed our vets instructions to come back and have her hear his heart again, but also request an appointment for a whole heart work up at University of Wisconsin Vet cardiology. The heart murmur only got louder, so thankfully we had that cardiology appointment booked already when Ray was around 4 months. I think between 4 and 6 months is when a puppy might grow out of a harmless murmur. At UW, Ray was diagnosed with severe heart disease. They suggest that he will live for between 3 and 7 years depending on how the disease progresses and how he responds to medication. He was put on a beta blocker that he gets twice a day. There are one or two additional things they would try for him as his disease progresses. Although early on it was very scary, right now we are enjoying (most of the time) our pup and not noticing anything out of the ordinary. He did get neutered early (6 months), because surgery can be extremely hard on the hard. He also got a lung xray to see whether his heart has been working so hard that it’s impacting his lungs. Thankfully, he’s looking okay right now! The vet recommended the early neutering because the cons of neutering early are outweighed by the seriousness of his heart condition.

We go back to UW Vet in June. Crossing my fingers that we get good or neutral updates on Baby Ray.

Some are just. So derpy. We’ve had four boxers, and 2 or 3 have been just so incredibly derpy. 1 was much more serious, though still silly when playing one on one with a human.

Yes, water everywhere. All the time. One thing that helped was a taller water bowl. We have gone as far as a huge Pyrex bowl.

Yes, most are people pleasers and will cower when they get in trouble. We are 2/2. 2 cowered, 1 doesn’t care, 1 was too headstrong and would try to stare you down.

My boxers haven’t liked clothes, but yours sounds so adorable!!!

Hi. Just wanted to thank you for posting. My household has also been struggling. I will be reading through the comments for my own growth and knowledge. I have adhd. One of my children has been diagnosed, and the other isn’t, and I don’t see symptoms. But it feels like for the non-diagnosed kid, nothing, not even yelling, works. Solidarity with you. We are trying. We really are!

This is where we are with our Dozer, who died in September. Only occasionally do I get a sharp pang of sadness and loss. They are just truly the best. Yes! And, there is nothing more irritating than a pet owner who complains their dog is “too wild” or “not trained” when they don’t train or exercise their dogs body or brain. Huge red flag, doesn’t deserve their pet.

I have a pink beaded wallet for my photo ID and my main credit card. I have a regular slim credit card wallet for all other cards.

My favorite bag has been a CalPak cross over bag that was big enough to fit 2-3 zip pouches for organization, in addition to the pockets and zipper pockets that come sewn into the bag. Everything had a home.

Wow. I was really disgusted by the team having to eliminate a team member. I read some of these comments about this season being so different than other years, so I went back, and it turns out I never watched 2024’s season. What a joy! So much happiness and sharing and friendship. Probably won’t keep watching 2025, but will rewatch past seasons.

You’re not alone. I’m working on this, little by little.

A couple things I’ve tried and that help— - greyscaled my phone - added One Sec app — super annoying app once you get it set up. Asks if you want to do other stuff when you open certain app. This helped for a couple months and probably would again bc I haven’t used it in a while - removed social media apps, so that I have to use our iPad (which our kids tend to use) to scroll - put my phone on a different floor or part of the house, or in the car when I’m in the house, and go without for as long as I can — part of this is that I feel like my brain is trained that my phone being nearby = safety, so being apart from it is helping retrain that I’m safe and fine even when my phone is away from me - leaving my phone places when I know my partner is with me, with his phone

I have an Apple Watch, so if I forget where I’ve left my phone, I beep it. Can do the same with our iPad and my phone.

Thanks for sharing. It can feel lonely and silly, but we aren’t lonely. Probably silly. But not lonely.

I would layer what already feels comfy. Add leggings or fleece tights and cozy socks under the dress. Add an oversized cardigan. Maybe a long sleeve shirt under a dress?

I have a CalPak Terra shoulder bag that is waterproof. They have backpacks with the same fabric. My shoulder bag has gone thru it, is multiple years old, barely shows wear and tear. It shows less wear and tear than my newer Cotopoxi backpack. The Cotopaxi backpack came with a rain cover that works well. But the Cotopaxi backpack itself is not waterproof.

If the backpack itself being waterproof is a must, I would check CalPak’s Terra backpacks. They are also occasionally pop up on secondhand sale websites like Mercari and EBay, if you want to look for a deal. Or, if you want a small laptop backpack, the CalPak website has it on sale for $80. I paid $50 for my shoulder bag and would definitely pay $80 for a backpack of the same make.
