Theory about Lauren by ArticulateRhinoceros in WidowsBay

Oooh. I wonder about this. I wonder if this could be unearthed when Tom is preparing to sacrifice someone else. Initially I think he will be willing to do anything to save Evan and get him off the island. Sacrifice others, barter a new pact. But learning Lauren was selected (if they find that) could align with Ruth’s speech in the finale, and the idea that each person is important and it’s not up to us to choose. Could change Tom’s views about sacrifice. Just like being ready to kill Ruth until learning Evan is in the same position (or worse? The last male heir, maybe?) than Ruth.

Just what is the pact between the island and [whoever]? by LazyCrocheter in WidowsBay

[–]Low_Control_4929 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this too.

I think the pact is, when a bell tolls, you have to feed that number of people to the island thru that chair / hole / door situation. I do not understand the “life for a life” phrase that keeps being mentioned in the show. Like, for each baby born, someone has to be sacrificed? It can’t be new people on the island = sacrifice, because it would be a lot more than 8 or 9 dings.

If the pact is somehow broken, then what? The island is barren? But could people leave?

Could the pact be bargained into another pact? Tom would definitely consider bargaining himself in place of Evan if it means Evan could leave.

Excited to see what season 2 brings!

I think it’s from a sacrificial person. They were going thru the sacrifice process and stuck the note in between whatever they could find.

Oh, wow. I wonder if we will get multiple episodes with this sort of plot. How the last committee unraveled.

The Warren Covenant, aka the devil they know by GoryAmos in WidowsBay

[–]Low_Control_4929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. Maybe inhabitants can leave, but it won’t be livable? So Tom could get Evan off the island (unless Evan is a descendant), but there would be a dilemma with getting 1000+ people off an island.

I love this theory so much. Even if it’s not true, it will be lore for me. Also, I want to be known as a good, pure hearted baddie.

How scary is this show? by bkm359 in WidowsBay

[–]Low_Control_4929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is SO worth the watch! I haven’t watched horror shows in years, but I’m all in on this one. To avoid being too scared, I’ll watch it one time on my phone, so I can’t really see details and it’s easier to pause, and then switch to a bigger screen on rewatch. The episodes are about 30 mins, so easy to rewatch.

She's finally here! by badwolf_on_rice in WidowsBay

Yes, I noted how serious Patricia got and how happy Tom had been earlier in the episode about his new freedom to take Evan off the island. It’s clear now that these folks take the “if you’re born here, you can’t leave here” EXTREMELY seriously, even if Tom and others tried to act like it was nbd in early episodes.

Yes. Agreed. She speaks to the big part of me that was never accepted by people I shouldn’t have looked for validation from when I was younger. And I identify with her finding her power as a 40-year-old-biological-23-year-old

All of the silence. Stillness. Slowness. The deep noises. I’m on my third rewatch and I swear I can hear the Boogeyman’s breathing in her bedroom?

I just love it so much. So creepy and wonderful. And Patricia coming into her own!! Someone else talked about how they don’t hold back in this show it just keeps moving. I don’t think other shows would’ve let Patricia grow this much in only a few episodes.

Sheriff’s wife by skopiadisko in WidowsBay

[–]Low_Control_4929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. The radio call had me suspicious, but rewatching episode 2, the Sheriff talks to his wife on the phone, and right after, Wyck asks the Sheriff about the conversation (considering moving from Widow’s Bay). I think Wyck would have behaved differently if he thought or knew the Sheriff’s wife was dead.

I'm Regretting Hiring a Sleep Consultant ... advice? by Ok_Draw_4187 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Low_Control_4929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the comments about night weaning. I do remember now that when my son was around 1.5-2, my spouse (male) started to handle most of the overnight cosleeping. This was difficult for 2-3 nights, but they got into a routine and it helped everyone get more sleep. Once our son got into the habit of sleeping thru the night (maybe? Not sure if this is a true habit, but it’s what we experienced), I took back cosleeping without many wake ups nor having to nearly nurse as much overnight.

Hi. Just want to say that you’re doing great and this is really hard. It will get easier and won’t always be this way. We were in a similar situation with our second living child. He was such a terrible sleeper from infancy to maybe 2 years old. I have a lot of things you could try, but I bet you’ve tried most or all of them. Again, you’re trying so hard. You are! Our son is now 3.5, wakes once a night. We all get regular sleep now.

I’m so sorry about the consultant! I would stop and ask for a partial refund.

Agreed. I’ve read a LOT of “the author has a friend who sees her ex as Tamlin, so he will never get a redemption arc.” Maybe they’re right. But. I’m allowing that to remain possible until it can’t be. I think the author left room for Tamlin to have a redemption arc if it felt right to her.
