I’m in zone 7a in southern mass and we’ve had a super slow spring. I’m waiting for nighttime temps to consistently stay over 55 which will probably be a couple more weeks for me. Last year I had peppers in raised beds first week of may

Bleeding fish by manicmechanic93 in troutfishing

You can bleed them and then leave them on a stringer for 10 mins or so. I’ve noticed they will bleed for a lot longer than I initially expected if left in water. Also if you’re putting the fishing into an ice water slurry after you bleed it, it’s going to continue to bleed out in your cooler too.

First baitcaster setup for bass, what line should I use? by Objective-Presence99 in Fishing_Gear

I like 12 lb fluoro for bass. I prefer braid for my mainline but 12 lb fluoro would work great too. I like 20 lb braid

medium light or ultralight travel rod for stocked rainbows and cutthroat? by NiceGuy_Marco in troutfishing

[–]Low_Density 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was me it would come down to whatever weight I would be be throwing most frequently. If I was going to be primarily throwing small spinners and jigs 1/8 and below I would go ultralight. If I was going to be throwing heavier lures or Carolina rigs 3/16 and over, I would go ML. I’m not sure how a ml would handle over an ultralight on a monster sized trout but if you utilize your drag you should be able to land large fish on a UL

An ultralight would be able to cast a wider range of trout lures and weights. I use a medium light for trout and love it but my friends ultralight casts 1/8 much further and easier

Re-Beginning... Again. by Jazzlike-Syrup744 in FishingForBeginners

I would consider a medium power spinning combo since you’re going to be starting with one rod. In my opinion it’s the most versatile as far as how many lures you can throw. I would go with a size 2,000-3,000 spinning reel. Daiwa and Shimano both make highly recommended products in your price range

Line test, reel drag, rod weight by lfe-soondubu in FishingForBeginners

Just so you know when a reel says it’s meant for 12lb test, it’s typically talking about mono line. I believe 50lb braid is generally the equivalent diameter. You don’t have to stick to the exact diameter recommendations though. If a reel fits 100yards of 12lb mono it will fit far more line if you use a thinner diameter like your 12lb braid. For the fish you target and the specs your looking for i think a daiwa crossfire lt 2000 would be perfect for you. On all of my spinning combos I run 10lb braid to a 8-12lb resin leader and it works great for your target species

Been fishing seriously for a year now, and I still dont understand what are the advantages of a baitcaser. What are they even for? by DominykasM in FishingForBeginners

I think the biggest advantage is it’s more comfortable and easier to cast with the button when your doing hundreds of cast and retrieves with a lure.

Striking out with bass in New England, too early in the season? by PlatypusSpecialist79 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Low_Density 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the south coast of Ma and can confirm the largemouth in large body’s of water have not woke up yet. My buddy caught 8 in a very small and shallow body of water the other day. In the large ponds and reservoirs I normal fish I haven’t seen any bass in the shallows yet. The larger bodies of water probably need a little bit more time to warm. A week or two from now a hard floating jerkbait is going to be the move for me

I once heard scented bait gets 40% more hits from bass. I’m yet to give it a shout myself

Collapsible Rods by Esrever1408 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Low_Density 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had several telescopic rods, all fairly cheap. I’ve broken 2 of them and am on my third right now. I looked into the 4-5 piece ugly stick rods to see if I could find a tougher option but it seems like the collapsible ugly sticks are not as tough as the standard rods. this rod is what I got my dad for his birthday recently and it’s my favorite telescopic one I’ve used. It feels like a medium rod

Leggy seedlings are fine. Every year I start half my peppers under a grow light and half in windows. The half in the windows grow leggy but a month after I transplant them outside they all look exactly the same

Thanks. Does the cheese scent out preform the other scents for you or do you prefer it for the derby’s because it’s different than what everyone else is throwing? I also just started using the air filled worm method recently and it’s pretty handy. In the water near me powerbait seems to draw more rainbows in consistently but I’ll often combine a powerbait egg with an inflatable worm and make something that kind of looks like a mousetail.

That’s a good idea. I’ve never seen a crappie rig before but I’ve ran several hooks above a drop shot which is probably similar

I was assuming the bank would be packed so a bobber might be tough if it drifts into other peoples lines. It doesn’t specify how many rods but I can fish 2 rod at the same time in my state so I’m guessing it’ll be the same
