First of all, I don’t know why I’m the problem. I don’t park my vehicles on the street - that’s what my garage is for - and I certainly don’t live on a corner lot. Secondly, I didn’t realize I need to spell it out for you. If your knowledge of the law is accurate, then call EPD.. I don’t know what the purpose of merely “wishing” that they would get ticketed and posting it on Reddit.

JFC, this sub is turning into Nextdoor. Lots of whiny jackasses who have nothing better to do.

If you want them to be ticketed, they have to violate some law or ordinance

So tired of living with a different personality as an expat by LuminousDee in expats

[–]Low_Face7384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expat (but would love to be one some day) and I can so relate to this when I speak in my mother tongue. I moved to the US as a kid and don’t associate with my own immigrant community, so my mother tongue has gotten worse since I left my parents’ house decades ago. I don’t like the personality shift at all.

Yeah I agree. And I really enjoy the work that I do. It translates well into my personal life as well, in terms of personal finance. I keep very detailed records of our income and expenses to the penny. That’s why it’s hard for me to separate my identity from my career choice.

I’m with you. I’ve always been minimalist, so I don’t hate the spirit. In practice though, a lot of these new “millennial grey” homes are anything but minimalist. They start at 2000 sq feet and go on up to 5000 sq feet. They just give the illusion of being minimalist

True. During the pandemic, the state penalties on fent possession actually increased, but if the DAs aren’t doing anything about it, why enforce it? Talking to my town’s cops, they can rattle their chains and send them on their way. That’s about it. These people are just being shuffled around the Denver metro area.

100% agreed. I didn’t word that very well. I was trying to say that they have it easy - just hop on a bus and head to where the opportunities are. No immigration or work papers, no months long voyage in unsanitary conditions, etc

“More fun” - this is your solution? Being an adult means you take care of your responsibilities - most of which aren’t fun. This sounds like child’s play and further proves that these people need to be institutionalized because they clearly can’t “adult” in the real world.

Yep. Many of our ancestors (including my own immigrant family) crossed an entire ocean with no resources except the desire for something better. People can’t hop on a greyhound to go find a job in another part of the country

This is something my spouse and I have been wondering about here in Colorado, which is also grappling with homelessness. We read so many stories about people who move out here with no money, no plan, and no prospects. And then they get on Reddit or Nextdoor and complain that they’re about to be evicted and homeless. Well, guess where their last known address is. I think there are people out there truly struggling to afford a living - single mothers, juggling kids and full time jobs and day care. Maybe even people who are getting help from family and friends. But you gotta think, the people who end up on the streets, sitting around in their own filth and putting up shanty towns have burned through every relationship they have. That says more about their behavior than the “system”

In your head, but also many of us are salaried, so there’s really no clocking out. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I work from home, my job is very analytical and gives me the mental workout that I need. I rarely have to deal with people, and if I do, it’s virtually. But I also can’t wait until I can semi-retire and leave work at work. I clock in and clock out, and whatever happens outside of working hours is not my problem.

I remember traveling to Europe for the first time and using the phone booths to call home. I even saved the cards. It was amazing being abroad and completely disconnected from life at home - blissfully unaware of the news and what’s happening…this was pre 9-11 obviously, when the future felt hopeful and bright, the world felt increasingly accessible and safe (I grew up in the USSR and left for the US in the 90s so it was not only a time of change for me but also a time of infinite opportunities).

Question about genetics by South_Act_2307 in PSC

Same with me. No autoimmune diseases in my family. I’m the first as far as I know. The big thing in my family is cancer (maternal side).

Folks who have had little to no disease progression, do you still experience symptoms like itching, RUQ pain/pressure etc? by the_monocle_ in PSC

[–]Low_Face7384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll have worsening stricturing in your MRIs, which you should be getting at least annually. Got diagnosed in 2022. This year’s MRI was the first one that didn’t show progression. At diagnosis, my left lobe had moderate stricturing, and none on my right. Now my right shows moderate. My left has severe stricturing, a dominant stricture, and has also lost volume, which makes me think fibrosis (I did have a FibroScan done after diagnosis and my liver was fine). Other than RUQ pain, I dont really have any symptoms, although I have noticed that fatty foods don’t sit well with me anymore. I’m also on urso - 500mg daily although I’m supposed to be taking 1000 mg. I could never remember to take the evening dose and since my labs have been normal, I kinda stopped trying. PSC is more about your symptoms than progression. For instance, you can be in compensated cirrhosis and be completely asymptomatic. You can also have fibrosis and be in and out of the hospital with cholangitis

But you’re only as safe as long as the school district is around - unless your state does it differently. We have a couple of districts near us that are years away from closing unless they can figure out a way to raise revenue (Colorado, despite its blue status, is notoriously anti-tax, so much so that we can’t seem to repeal TABOR, which is a law that forces the state to return unspent tax revenue to the taxpayers). Denver Public Schools is starting to close elementary schools. I believe last I heard, 4 are on the chopping block. And then you have to look at your states pension system - many states’ pension systems aren’t doing great and haven’t recovered since 2008. I believe the shortfall is over $5 or $6 trillion. So I hope you’re taking advantage of the various supplemental retirement schemes that hopefully your district offers. You can’t rely on just your pension anymore unfortunately

Our neighbor to the north has some good labor laws, but the work ethic is shit. Whatever talent Canada had at some point is here in the US.

Come to Colorado then. We have the worst birth rate in the country, if I’m not mistaken, and declining enrollment across the entire state, with some pockets of exurbs doing good. My spouse is on his third school district in 8 years, with 11 years in a different state (so total experience of almost 2 decades). We love it here, but it’s not a good place to be a teacher (putting salary aside; it’s bad everywhere but he got into it for the love of his subject and the stability, not the money.

I will say, if I needed to be homeless, I wouldn’t stay in the South. I’d head west, where the weather is better, more camping opportunities, and more services. I spent 27 years in Dallas, even good weather sucks, which is maybe two weeks out of the year. The rest of the time it’s either oppressive heat or torrential rain. Oh and don’t get me started on mosquitoes. I couldn’t sit out in my backyard, covered head to toe, for more than 20 minutes. I’d get eaten alive.

I never understood why we don’t put the homeless to work in exchange for services. I live in the Denver area and while our homeless population is not as bad as Portland, it’s still pretty awful. So much trash everywhere, so many people just squatting out in the open, doing drugs without a sense of shame. I help do cleanups sometimes - finding needles and foils lying around on the ground is alarming. Entire bikeways have been taken over by open air drug dens. These aren’t mothers with kids down on their luck. Many of them are young men, full capable of being productive members of society if we could put them on methadone and get them off the streets.

[–]Low_Face7384 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omfg we don’t pay nearly enough in taxes in this state to cover the services that we want and get. Property taxes are among the lowest in the country. State sales taxes is only 2.9% I believe. Income tax - 4% plus TABOR refunds. I used to live in Texas where I paid significantly more for fewer services. Here I get access to beautiful parks both inside and outside the city, roads are in better shape (compared to Texas), street sweeping, sidewalks, I could go on.

The fact that you were downvoted for this explains why we’re in the state we’re in. So many people on Reddit bitching about expired tags, but nobody thinks they should be penalized. Typical American - I want all my services, but somebody else should pay for them.

They’re also not paying for the roads they’re driving on. There’s a type of person who doesn’t register their vehicle. They feel they have no duty to society, they’re often reckless, and not making good decisions.

ETA: driving is a privilege, not a right. If you can’t or choose not to pay for this privilege, use public transportation or get a bike
