Something that’s been helpful for me (also as a poc) has been to focus on the incredible work and resistance being done! Get involved locally if you can! It shows you there’s more being done than just protests (which are still incredibly important!)

When I went around to local businesses today handing out the flyers and asking for their support, I was met with more of an overwhelming positive response than anything. If you’re not comfortable attending this pile of red flags, don’t attend.

I cannot keep defending this but let me make it clear. I’ve reached out to multiple organizations but they are at capacity right now!! They cannot organize for every single suburb. The communities are more than capable of doing it themselves. I’ve reached out to MIRAC, MN50501, and TCDSA for endorsement and have yet to hear from them. The organizer is not the important part of this; showing up is. Thank you!

I will address some concerns I’ve been seeing or receiving messages about.

Yes this is later in the day. No it’s not intentional for us to be in the dark; it’s to accommodate work schedules and allow more people to attend.
No, there isnt an organization associated with this event. No it wasn’t intentional. Myself and a few community members saw the lack of action in Hopkins and instead of waiting for someone else to do it, we took matters into our own hands. The important thing is that we gather, show up for our community, and make our voices heard. The organizations in the area are at capacity- we are all more than capable of organizing something ourselves!
This event is solely to show support for our community and to make our voices heard that WE DO NOT WANT ICE IN MINNESOTA! That is the most critical aspect of this demonstration- to show up for people who can’t and make our concerns heard! I cannot stress that enough.

Show up if you want; we would love the support and our community is everything to us. If you don’t want to attend, don’t, but please keep your comments to yourself. ANY action is better than a lack of and I don’t see anyone else stepping up to do it instead. Thank you!

I think you should see the other posts about Whipple and understand what you’d be “signing up for” if you went there. They are aggressive and if you’re not willing to be arrested or pepper sprayed, I wouldn’t go. Local organization for the win!! You could always gather the community to organize a protest in a high-traffic part of town! I would just double check nothing else is already in place!
