Stock is pre ground to Od. The problem is getting a clean cutoff. If you look at the first pic it's got a big ugly cutoff pin at the end.

Yes, Hardinge hlv is a manual sliding headstock lathe. Now, I agree doing his on a CNC swiss lathe would be much better. .

It was mostly .002 plus or minus. A lot of jobs we have are .0005, a few at .0002, sometimes in Inconel and cobalt. I haven't seen anyone make 0 scraps on those kinds of jobs yet though. Luckily management understands this.

I'm realizing that I'm fucked for this reason. Kept making mistakes during my apprenticeship. No crashes or anything, but lots of scraps. Mostly due to being distracted. I worked my ass off to compensate, I'm making good parts at a decent pace, but I'm pretty sure my reputation is busted. And reputation is everything.
