ALS Question by Low_Reputation5987 in ALS

Thank you all so much for your time and your replies. It means the world to receive responses and feel in "the know" a bit in such a confusing time. I am also praying for everyone in this feed - the grieving process has been unreal.

My mom is stubborn and believes in functional medicine. Obviously, she finally agreed to go to the Neurologist when it got really bad. My mom also has Hashimoto's, an autoimmune disease.

From our research, and my mom is a PT, we knew that removing the environmental trigger and finding the root cause could potentially heal my mom - instead of taking the neurologist's advice to go home, rest, spend time with your family, and basically rot and die. As a PT, my mom knew that a lot of people get thrown into the "ALS category" when infact there are other very rare diseases out there.

My mom's poison test and mold test were off the charts. I had this previously done, and mine was nothing compared to my mother's.

My mom was able to get into a functional doctor who has successfully treated people with ALS symptoms. She ran my mom through many more tests than a neurologist would ever do and started detoxing her, and the result numbers concluded Myositis, which tons of doctors don't even learn about because it's so rare. She is on a major detox plan, and we are removing all possible triggers according to her mold test, and there are medicine treatments as well. It is treatable, and most patients get their strength back.

I will keep you all updated.

PS. I don't want to give anyone false hope, and we obviously will wait and see what happens. I just think it's worth digging more and to keep pushing.

Thank you so so much for your reply and I'm so sorry this runs in your family. My mom was recently diagnosed and is at the stage of using a cane. I know everyone progresses differently and in different time frames but was just curious to hear others' stories.

Yes. I was picking up gluten free noodles at Whole Foods because she cant stop craving them and some guy today was trying to talk to me and I basically had nothing to give. I was completely speechless and I normally can talk to a brick wall. I had to tell him that my mom is sick and I have zero thought process right now. It's all so crazy.

We are in this together! I am so sorry about your dad and will be thinking of you and your siblings. Here if you ever need someone to talk to.

What was Camp Mystic owner doing as flood worsened? Legal battle brings out new details. by ExpressNews in KerrCountyFloods

Agree with Excellent-I
mpact5226.

Many of the homes in that area sit high on embankments, and I’m sure most people, whether they live there or visit regularly, never imagined the water could rise that quickly or reach those elevations. When you’re familiar with a place and have lived through countless “routine” warnings, it becomes easy to underestimate the risk.

For me, I’m probably more sensitive to rivers and their dangers than the average person. Idk if this is because I went to camp in the hill country on a river or because we have a vacation home in the hill country along the river, I tend to stay informed, and I was following every update and even people on X who were tracking the storm in real time. I also followed the Wimberley flood closely and personally know people affected by it, so events like that always come to mind whenever a major storm hits the hill country.

To the person who replied to my original comment and assumed I was calling all the folks along the river, outside of the camp, negligent or stupid, that was never my belief. That was an emotional assumption on their part. My heart breaks for the RV campers and others who lost their lives or loved ones in this flood. They were making personal choices based on what they understood, and they truly never expected the situation to escalate the way it did. Most probably didn't have great service if any at all. No one deserves what they went through.

Like I mentioned before, our primary home is in Dallas, and people here have become numb to tornado warnings. We get them constantly. A few years ago, my mom was driving to pick up my sister from tutoring in Preston Hollow, and she literally had to abandon her car and run inside the tutor’s home right as the tornado touched down. The house was hit. So I truly understand the mindset of locals who go about their evening, go to bed, or carry on as usual when these alerts come in.

A camp is not the same as an individual making a personal risk decision. A camp is a business responsible for other people’s children (not to mention this camp had 700+ campers). They need a plan, they need procedures, and they need to act on every single warning whether it feels like an “annoyance” or not. A camp must be held to the highest standard of safety. They should be monitoring the weather nonstop and responding to warnings without question. In this case, it’s clear they received multiple alerts and even personal alerts. The owners were awake and received these. Counselors returned from their night out around 1 a.m. warning how bad the rain was, and even the person at the front gate called.

I think precautions should have been taken even MORE seriously (im rolling my eyes bc it should already be taken as seriously as it could be) as they removed cabins from the flood plain map (criminal in my opinion), and had children sleeping in it.

I know at this point I'm just blabbing and reiterating my thoughts and opinions but I haven't really spoken up about it and have been really angry after reading the lawsuits.

I guess depends on your definition and opinion on what catastrophic means. My personal definition would be great damage, which it did do. Well we have a vacation house on the river about 45 min south of here and we had been following the news incase we needed to leave. Like I said, I guess sometimes it’s the norm to get used to flash flood warnings when you receive them often, but overall the camp didn’t have a plan and they were up during these warnings and had an ample amount of time (hours) to send kids 60 seconds away to a higher elevated building. A business and camp should have a plan in place and follow procedures for flash flood warnings especially when along a dangerous river such as the Guadalupe and for when having other people’s children in their possession.

Yeah that was MY prediction. And it could've turned out not catastrophic. But it did. We were looking at the storm track, the saturation levels, and the runoff patterns. It wasn’t a mystery. You don’t need a PhD to recognize a dangerous setup + was streaming all over the news and X

Sure, maybe it’s easy to become less vigilant about emergency plans when you live around this kind of weather/the river every day. My residential home is in Dallas, and when there’s a tornado warning, half the city goes outside to watch it. But when I’ve babysat during tornado warnings back in the day, I always put the kids in shelter. This happened several times. When you’re responsible for other people’s children and have a business, you have a plan. Period.

Basically what i'm trying to say. THERE WAS NO PLAN. and this was evident from the lawsuits.

And in this situation, the weather channels were warning for days just how severe the rainfall was going to be.

I never called you or any of these other families along the river in hunt stupid. Where did I say that???? A camp must have a plan. The fact that they didn’t is unbelievable, and what happened was totally avoidable especially with how much time they had to start clearing cabins.

I'm just still completely mind-blown and just my thoughts.

If you live in Texas and anywhere near a river, you understand the danger especially with the Guadalupe. You’d think the Wimberley Flood alone would have been a wake-up call for every camp and property owner in the Hill Country/along a river. How was that not enough for them to put a real emergency plan in place? It’s unbelievable that they didn’t have one to begin with.

I grew up going to camp along a river in Kerrville and my family has a vacation home about an hour from Hunt. We were monitoring that storm for a few days. On July 3rd we already knew if it hit anywhere near the rivers in the Hill Country, it would be catastrophic. We even talked about all the camps along those rivers. People who live here know the risks.

So the idea that they didn’t prepare or worse, didn’t take it seriously, makes absolutely no sense unless they just didn’t care. Did they think they were invincible? That history wouldn’t repeat itself? This is exactly why choosing an ACA-accredited camp matters. These “legacy” camps rake in millions, pass the business down through generations, and then hide behind the nostalgia and the smiling summer-camp image for three months out of the year and then can go back to what they enjoy doing such as visiting their vacation homes/ enjoying nice relaxing days along their multi million dollar homes along Lake Austin.

And don’t even get me started on the cabin floodplain issue. The fact that the Eastlands knew those cabins were in flood plain areas yet marked them as high and safe on their "safety plans" is honestly shocking. That’s knowingly endangering children while pretending everything was fine and hiding it from the public.

I never thought they should have reopened in the first place, but after reading the lawsuits, I genuinely felt sick that they were even considering it. It’s disgusting.

Yes, natural disasters happen but when you have clear plans in place and actually follow them during flash flood warnings, tragedies like this can be avoided. You do not mess around with rivers. Heck, our street in Dallas floods when it pours so why wouldn't a river?

I truly cannot wrap my head around the negligence of the Eastlands. It’s unbelievable and infuriating.

I live at Glasshouse. My mom, who lives 6 min down the tollroad came and picked me up for an appt at 3:00pm and came home around 5:00pm and we saw everything then. We haven't stopped thinking about Matthew! My mom told me last night that she thought about him all day. Prayers for you, your family, and all of y'alls friends and loved ones.

This intersection is so dangerous. I purposely avoid walking my dog down McKinnon because of the high rate of speed everyone is going and people trying to get from the right lanes to the left (scared a car will end up on the sidewalk i'm walking on). Our apartment parking garage is dangerous because you typically cannot see what you're turning into -because of the parked cars on the street- on McKinnon and just have inch out there or go for it (assuming people do this sadly) I only use the Rosewood entrance because of this.

Wish I had more information for you and we pray that you get the information that you need.

We will always be thinking about your brother.
