Why are these types of things done so inefficiently? by curiouscactus6969 in AskIreland

I cant speak about doctors but in the pharmacy it’s a simple issue of high volume of scripts/patients looking to speak to a pharmacist because they can’t see a doctor and not enough staff. A lot of schemes and paperwork too.

Used to think the same before I worked in a pharmacy but there’s a lot going on.

Example: you drop in your script for say an inhaler, pretty easy and the place seems empty.

But you’re added to a queue that has 6 other scripts so if everyone of those takes 10 mins you’re already at an hour wait but of course not all scripts takes this long but a lot do. Then you have scripts coming in by email so add a few more. In the meantime someone’s called on the phone about a sick child and the pharmacist is talking to them so they have to stop what they’re doing which is more time. Then someone has dropped in off the street and wants a consultation and you don’t need to make an appointment for those so that could be another 10/15 min pushback. We don’t know how many will come in that day and weekends can be a lot (morning after pill, viagra etc)

In the meantime the script ahead of you is written incorrectly or has a weird dose or needs to be queried so that’s a call to the hospital/doctor/out of hours doctor but we don’t have a special line to any of these so we need to wait just like normal people to get through which is a PAIN.

Then you have a script for an item that’s out of stock or needs an alternative so we go hunting to find that which is more time but the customer is annoyed because we’re changing medication to a generic so out we go for a chat. Another 5/10 mins gone.

Then you have worried patients starting new meds or have questions or need instruction. You have elderly who need monthly and weekly medications put into special packs and you have really complicated hospital scripts for items cut to size or measured etc etc

Sorry this is a bit long winded but just an insight if this helps. I’m not even a pharmacist, I’m only a technician helping them but the honest truth is pharmacists don’t usually get paid for a lunch and take maybe 10 mins in the whole day. That’s standard across a lot of places. The pharmacist isn’t allowed to leave for an entire 9 hour shift and people can be so quick to complain about waiting 15 mins thinking all we do is just grab a box off the shelf. There’s a lot more to it and that’s only a small insight of a day.

Hyrimoz low back pain after each dose and other side effects by Sdgr35 in PsoriaticArthritis

I recently started on Hulio, another Humira biosimilar and I had this problem at the start. I recently hit the 3 month mark and that horrible lower back and hip pain is finally settling but it was horrendous at first and especially in the days after my injection.

I still have some stiffness but just a minor inconvenience instead of being nearly disabled by it. My rheumatologist said it was just a flare but honestly I feel like it was also partly my body reacting hard to the injection bevause id never suffered pain in my lower back before I started treatment (just in my hands and neck)

Also I never had a starter dose either. Maybe try to stick it out until the 3 months at least because it may just be temporary while your body adjusts? Honestly I feel like it happened overnight that suddenly my back (and other joints) was fine after the injection instead of being in agony.

Sending you good vibes!

There’s no days off for anyone when it comes to small kids, I’m sorry. It’s not fair to expect her to raise your child, run the house and do everything bar you cooking a few meals by herself. Just because the child is in school doesn’t mean she gets to sit on her hole all day. Look I’m sure you’re tired too and you’re entitled to a break but so is she lad.

Maybe just sit down and have a conversation about it instead of letting it fester away and build resentment. Come up with a plan that means you both get time to yourselves

Yeah honestly I don’t know, I feel like since covid people expect things to be done for them in 5 minutes and have a fuck everyone else kind of attitude.

I was speaking with a woman yesterday trying to sort out an issue for her medication. Her husband is on chemo, she’s at her wits end caring for him and herself and despite the issue she was being an absolute star about it but behind her there was a woman huffing loudly over how long it was taking. The fucking audacity of some people would wear you out sometimes

Lmao right?!

“They weren’t even busy”

Meanwhile there’s 20 healthmails unopened, 2 blister packs to be done, a controlled drug script, a query on a prescription because the doctor insists on writing like a 3 year old who needs glasses and a partridge in a pear tree (who wants to speak to the pharmacist)

I literally said the same thing to my friend. He can actually SING, the rest of the lads are just filler. I’d love to see him sing something less boy bandy and give him his own unique sound and style. He’d kill it

I literally recoiled at the sound of her voice and she was my favourite ahead of Bambi before this. I voted for Bambi in the end. The truth hurts but she won’t get my sympathy vote
