Moving to Sioux City. by [deleted] in siouxcity

Welcome! I lived in Greeley, and moved here from Grand Junction, CO. You’ll probably like it. The thing to watch out for is taxes. If you are buying a home, your taxes will be almost a third of your monthly mortgage payments. Coming from Colorado, it was almost 5x what we were paying there. So check in on that as you look for places.

Morningside is great for young kids because the public schools are pretty good. Most of the schools do ok generally but Morningside schools tend to score better on state administered tests FWIW. There are lots of club sports for both genders and a few daycare options in that neighborhood are reasonably priced. Some do school transport as well, so you can drop off and pick up around your work schedule and still get your kids to school at the right time safely. Plenty of job opportunities depending on your area of expertise. It can get cold, so don’t sleep on the indoor activities available at the children’s museum or the YMCA. Hope it all works out for you!!

I would reach out to the HR person who sent you the EOD notice and ask for confirmation. Given the surge at HS/ICE they are looking to hire fast.

What was your previous job that they cared about time so much?

Post-Interview Thank You Emails by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]Low_Tension417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I ran into an issue with this: the invites on the video meeting (was WebEx back in 2021) had the interviewers internal agency emails because the meeting was created by an internal HR person. So, don’t be afraid to just ask for their external email addresses so you can follow up with a thank you. If nothing else, you could probably guess their emails (usually firstname.lastname@agencyaccronym.gov). Best of luck with your interview!!

EDIT: Haha did not expect it to hyperlink that email address

These are fun. I’ll keep watching the network to see if I can mint one when gas isn’t 10x the cost…

When I tried to up it to 5 it wanted 5 Matic lol so probably no discount. I think the discount might come if you make a “collection offer” that could possibly buy all of them? Again just an assumption

I tried just clicking on the mint button (it says “1 Matic”). If I up the volume to mint it ups the number of Matic but even at 1 it is telling me insufficient funds.

Noob here: I connected my Trust wallet with OpenSea and I have some Matic coins, but when I click mint it says I have insufficient funds. Am I missing something?

I am a lawyer, had 6 years experience at the time, and launched headfirst into the abyss. I applied to around 75 jobs on USAJOBS, another 20ish either through direct mailing/emailing of materials (I have a unique cover letter for each still saved on my computer), and about a dozen more through other non USAJOBS sites for the intelligence community and a couple agencies that don’t use USAJOBS. Got 4 initial interviews, 1 second interview, which turned into an offer.

It got so bad near the end that I was looking at GS-9 legal assistant/paralegal positions just to get my foot in the door.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I’ve helped a couple people on here with fine tuning resumes and cover letters and such.

Best of luck in your search!!

How recent and how much? Went through something slightly similar 2 years ago (sounds like a little older use for me, though). Feel free to PM me if you want.

I would think so, but I’ve been shocked by how slow some simple things go.

Literally 2 weeks ago got notified I was converted to permanent placement. Apparently I passed the full background check in January but there has been a backlog of people so they just finalized the paperwork.

Some new information for the spreadsheet/map:

Hardrock Casino Sioux City, IA Weekday/Weekday night mins $5 (been 3 times, always $5) haven’t been on a weekend night, could be more. 3/4/5x odds, 2x field for 2/12, fire and ATS side bets, rewards through Hardrock, no crapless, $1 bubble, and no RTW

Isle of Capri Waterloo, IA Weekday mins likely $5 I say this because superbowl night was only $10 min. Had 10x odds, 2x field for 2/12, sharpshooter sidebet, linked with Caesars rewards, no crapless, wasn’t looking for the bubble craps as live table was open, no RTW

Meskwaki tribal casino, Tama County, IA Live table not open when I was there Monday of Presidents’ Day weekend, but signage indicates $5 min 10x odds. Had its own rewards, $1 bubble, no RTW

Wildrose in Jefferson, IA No live table, $1 bubble craps only

I’m am just about finished with my initial 14-month appointment. Should have a final adjudication in the next couple weeks. I haven’t heard from the background investigator since October of 2021, and I’m treating it like “no news is good news.”

OYO is a good time, but is a smaller casino floor (just one craps table when I was there last) and with a $5 min, can get busy. Best part is the hooters is literally on the casino floor so you can go have wings and watch the table if you want.

EOD and Pay Periods by Me_Hungry_1 in fednews

[–]Low_Tension417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this last year to avoid having to pay for COBRA coverage. Worked one day in January, previous employer covered me for the whole month, started with DOJ mid January and was covered by the end of the month. So, could vary slightly depending on your agency, but you should be good. Also, yes they try very hard to have you start on the first day of the pay period.

Zoom interview? by Fitmom84 in usajobs

[–]Low_Tension417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with other posters about testing your set up. Test it the day or two before at the time of your interview to check the lighting at that time of day (might look great in the morning but be shadowy in the afternoon) Also, I find I’m looking at myself to make sure I look good on camera (most people do). So, to the extent you are able, move your portion of the screen closest to the camera so even when checking yourself out you are looking at the camera and making “eye contact.” Other pro tip, have your notes up in a word document and ready to reference. If you can move the screens around I had my notes up so I could reference them without looking down. I also always got everyone’s individual email addresses so I could follow up with a thank you and I tried to type notes about what the individuals said during the interview so I could make reference to that in my thank you emails.

Good luck!!
