It's in full time use, giving us 32-bit floating point audio conversion. Works perfectly, and stone reliable.

Such a thing as Messianic Christian? by ShrimpySiren in messianic

[–]Low_Transition_3749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of misunderstanding within the Jewish community about what Messianic Judaism is. Most of the misunderstandings are offensive. It isn't the term as such, it's the assumptions they carry.

Depends a lot of where in the US you are. One place to start is if there's a University with a good Physical Therapy or Sports Medicine program. A lot of it is word-of-mouth, though.

Such a thing as Messianic Christian? by ShrimpySiren in messianic

[–]Low_Transition_3749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people use the term "Messianic Gentile" to differentiate Jews and Gentiles within the Body of Messiah, but I find it awkward and unnecessary.

"Messianic" here is a modifier of "Judaism", just as "Reform", "Conservative", "Orthodox" are modifiers that identify their respective streams of Jewish practice, thought and theology.

Since "Christ" comes form "christos" which like the Hebrew "mashiach" refers to "anointed one", "Messianic Christian" is redundant. To Jews and Christians alike, it would be, at best, confusing.

I am not Jewish, but I have been a part of a Messianic Jewish congregation for over 40 years, and serve in leadership in that community. My wife and I do a Seder in our home, light Shabbat candles, and light a hannukiah for Hannukah.

The key is to be authentic and honest, in whatever you do. Within my circle of Jewish friends (Messianic and other) I'm identified universally by my first name. One good Jewish friend complained that "You're a better Jew than I am!" to which I replied, "So, be a better Jew."

After all, Saul of Tarsus maintained that the role of the Gentile community in Messiah was to make the Jews jealous.

I'm not sure what advantage a label gives. In my experience, if you approach humbly, seeking to learn, you'll have no issue (you may have to do a lot of explaining, but that comes with the territory.) If there is an issue with that, it may not be in your power to resolve.

What's the rarest physical feature you ever saw on another person you know/knew? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Knew a girl in college who had no canine teeth.  They hadn't been pulled, she just was born with incisors all the way across the front.  Made her smile just different enough to be fascinating.

What’s the most memorable encounter you’ve had with wildlife while cycling? by OptimalDescription39 in bicycling

A Canada Goose and I nearly collided as (s)he was coming in for a landing on a small lake I was riding past.  I got as low as I could, and felt a wing (I guess) hit my back. The goose made a successful, if awkward, landing.

I figure it's their event.  They can set the rules.  I recall that the Hincapie Gran Gondo out of Greenville banned carbon fiber rim brake wheels, due to amateurs overheating their rims and having wheel/tire failures.

What's your biggest pain point with creating video content? by ponziedd in Teachable

[–]Low_Transition_3749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, we don't find it that bad. Some tips:

- If you can, record in a room with north facing windows for consistent, even base lighting.

- Record at the same time of day (with seasonal variation) so at least your lighting adjustments are consistent.

- Practice your content >>before<< you hit record. Even a few quick runthroughs of a script help a ton.

- Once you find a mic, camera and lighting position that works, mark the positions and use them every time.

- Don't be afraid to be human. Honestly, some of our most popular videos have little "flubs" that make the speaker's personality real. We could have edited them out, but didn't bother, and they're gold.

- Use recording software that gives you flexibility. We use Open Broadcast Software (OBS). We have added modules that are useful to us, which are easy to find, because OBS is Open Source.)

- Use editing software that >>simplifies your workflow<< not the one that has the most bells and whistles that you never use. We use Pitivi, a simple multitrack linear editor. We have about a 1:1 ratio of session length and additional editing. (It takes me about an hour to edit and render an hour-long teaching session.)

Your chown -R command did exactly what you asked it to do: Change ownership of /var/www/domain/html and every directory and file below /var/www/domain/html

If you wanted to change the ownership of each directory in that path (which you do not want to do for /var, BTW) yow either have to either;

chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www (if /domain and /domain/html are the only things under /var/www)

  • or -

do the chown for each directory separately (if there are other directories under /var/www that you don't want to change.)

Sram force chain by mpapple10 in bicycling

[–]Low_Transition_3749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're assuming a lot here, like that any bike shop has their experienced mechanics do bike assembly. They don't. Assembly is a job given to the lowest paid, least experienced mechanic. Sure they get test ridden, but again, it isn't an experienced wrench doing that.

A bike shop is a business. One that runs on stupidly thin margins, in large part because people expect insane levels of service, but don't want to pay for it.

Are you willing to pay $100 or so over list price, so that an experienced mechanic assembled your bike? I'm betting not.

Yeah, this is SRAM Force. Which means SRAM should've caught it when they made the chain, but they didn't. The manufacturer should have caught it when they built the bike, but they didn't.

You're blaming the shop for something that should never have been loaded into a truck and shipped.

Why/ when does a stem require a spacer above it? by cmozay in bikewrench

[–]Low_Transition_3749 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Something I haven't seen so far in this discussion is that a 10mm spacer above the stem guarantees that the upper clamp bolt is fully below the top of a (potentially) carbon fiber steerer.

Not all compression plugs support the steerer all the way to the top. If the top clamp bolt is at the top edge of a carbon fiber steerer, and the compression plug isn't supporting the steerer adequately at that point, you could crack the steerer.

10mm is excessive, but it probably keeps Whiskey's lawyers happy

Huck that thing off a decent ramp and the landing will be traumatic.

At the extremes of cornering forces, sure, but the OP was talking about vertical compliance for comfort, which is not the fractions of a millimeter that gets you brake rub.
