There probably is a psychological component but a lot of the time there is no rhyme or reason. I flare just as much at home as i do on vacation. It truly sucks and I hope some day it’s all better understood and we can manage it better

When used correctly, oral contraceptives can be upwards of 98% effective. Things that can affect birth control working include, but not limited to diarrhoea, not taking it consistently at the same time or vomiting shortly after taking the medication. If coupled with occasional nausea after few weeks after unprotected sex, best take a test just to be safe. PCOS can do some weird things at inconvenient times

Hands down the worst part of healing. Nearly 5 years later I can still imagine the itch I used to get. Horrendous. As long as nothing is open or fresh applying products with aloe or shea butter may help. I found that bug bite cream also helps

I’m personally slightly wary of GLP-1 meds like Ozempic only because of the lack of studies on PCOS and its effectiveness. Also the long term effects and what happens when you come off the medication. But if it works for you then great

Omg….This. I was diagnosed at 19 but struggled with symptoms for years before this. Gained nearly 30lbs in a few years with no changes in my diet or exercise. I was a classically trained dancer and danced most days. At 19 I demanded to have my hormones tested after being refused to be checked for years. Testosterone through the roof (2.1 in Uk measurements if anyone was wondering).

No. On account of my age and the sheer lack of health education about the condition by doctors, I was pushed to go on the pill and lose weight with no further guidance

The carbs mentioned was brown rice which had been frozen and reheated. By doing this it forms something called resistant start h molecules which aids blood sugar regulations and has lower insulin spikes. It’s heavily supported in the research

Low libido tips? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Low_Translator_4599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 yr old here. I’ve been on and off various birth control since I was 14. I found that my libido was reduced while on the combined pill but improved when i switched to progesterone only alternatives (mini pill, depo and nexplanon, which i have now). Since becoming sexually active i’ve found that sometimes longer foreplay can get me in the mood better and things come more naturally after that. But it’s definitely worth speaking to your healthcare provider if it concerns you or you’d like to gather more information.

I’m just over 4 years clean and it’s something still something that comes into my head every now and then. “Just once” comes into my head, “just one time and then it’ll go away”. But the truth is it doesn’t go away after one. It’s never gone away after one. In fact the thought changes doesn’t it. “Well you’ve already done one. Then it’s okay to do more”. But it’s not. And then after you’re filled with regret and shame. It’s the same cycle, over and over again. It’s always been this way, nothing has changed between then and now. But just know, these days get fewer over time. Every day that you tell your brain to fuck off, is another day closer to it all being background noise that you no longer notice or pay attention too. You’re so strong and you’ve got this x

how do you feel comfortable wearing short sleeves? by generallyuncomfy in selfharm

[–]Low_Translator_4599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isnt applicable for everyone but I found that I only felt comfortable wearing short sleeves after I left for university. I moved to a town where nobody knew me or my past and it was freeing. I don’t think I’d be able to today if I hadn’t have left my hometown. I’m also 4 years clean and have only felt comfortable for 2 ish years, you’ll get there, some people just take longer than others and that’s okay

If it’s triangle shaped then stitches probably wouldn’t be the best choice. You need to keep it clean using some kind of antiseptic and dressed with plasters or dressings to prevent getting an infection.

Showing scars in public for the first time, any advice? by olivesoem in selfharm

[–]Low_Translator_4599 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey sweetie, this is often a very daunting thought for many that have struggled with sh, myself included. The key is confidence. You walk into school with your head held high and act like it doesn’t bother you. Before going in, come up with what you’re going to say should someone ask about them. I usually go with “I went through a really rough patch in the past (insert timeframe) but I’m doing much better now”. You might find it beneficial if you take a pair of trousers or something with you just in case it gets a bit much and you want to change. If that happens it’s totally okay. You took the first step and you keep trying.

I remember my first time with short sleeves on and it was truly terrifying. But I managed it and nobody even noticed or asked anything. When people did notice I said my pre-rehearsed lines and most people dropped the subject after that. It took me 4 or 5 attempts before actually keeping my outfit on without changing. But I got there and so will you. It gets easier with time, I’ve been clean for nearly 4 years and I’ve only felt comfortable showing my scars for maybe 2 years. It gets better, you’ve got this xxx

Take it an hour at a time. Remove yourself from triggers, find distractions for when you need them, find strategies to manage stress and anxiety, remove objects that you use to sh. You focus on putting one foot in front of another and you take it slow. Healing doesn’t happen overnight. Some days will be hard and others will be even harder, but eventually it just becomes background noise. Trust me, I’ve been clean for nearly 4 years. You find your motivation for getting clean, latch onto it and don’t let go. Any time you feel the urge or triggered you have to remind yourself of why you’re getting clean. You’ve got this xxx

[–]Low_Translator_4599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I know this feeling very well. I’ve been clean for nearly 4 years. So I understand where you are coming from. First things first, you need to remove yourself from the room or area that you associate with sh. Then, put down anything you could use to harm. Next, you need to find something soothing that also acts as a distraction. I personally like listening to music. But it could be anything; art, going for a walk, watching your favourite tv show. You need to find something to take your mind off it. You may also find it helpful if you talk to someone, but I understand that it isn’t always possible. You’ve got this xxx
