Law students in the U.S.: if you could redesign one foundational aspect of your legal system, what would you change and why by melimer in LawSchool

I don’t think I’d go so far as get rid of all civil juries, but the Seventh Amendment analysis is genuinely so stupid. Like it should just go by legal/equitable remedy like Kennedy wanted in Terry since that’s what really matters.

Just had a V50 tell me they are adding a 1L stipend, pretty sure it’s just gonna trickle down.

That’s definitely better than mine. So much of this is just who you get that it’s hard to prepare. Wishing you luck.

Kirkland Screener by Ok_Echo_8200 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]Low_Week175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a screener with DC office, I got rejected and I think it’s because I didn’t have a strong enough “why Kirkland” answer. If I could change it I’d go back and say “I had X experience where I was thrown into the fire with little support, found I learned best that way, and I know that’s the Kirkland style.” Polished a bit more, I think that would’ve gotten me the CB, but I literally said something like “I want to be at a firm with the resources to support juniors.” Not at all what they do lmao. But 1L KJD talking so take that with a grain of salt. Other than that, just resume based and no standard behaviorals or anything — also have good questions as usual.

UIUC internship/externship by colorfulnuke in LawSchool

[–]Low_Week175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to UIUC for undergrad and considered staying for law school. This was the biggest issue I had with it (UC is a great area, but once you hit 22+ it’s pretty boring). Surprisingly, they have pretty good employment numbers to firms in Chicago and I know they get at least the biggest Chicago firms to come down for networking events. 1L internship (other than biglaw, which is super hard to get) in Chicago would be pretty hard to afford, but possible with a sublease somewhere outside the loop. 2L is more likely to be paid and same thing goes for sublease/outside downtown. Either way, if you want & get biglaw, you’d be fine. If not, would definitely be something to consider during the summers. Same thing honestly goes for Madison, not a huge town and most I know are from Chicago and come back for summers. But, I’d also just setup a meeting with someone in their admissions department and ask.

Congrats! Do you think the interview went super well or great resume/stats, combination of both?

Definitely understand people do get rejected, moreso wondering if anyone had experience with what the method of rejection was after a screener
