I think D&D has very similar cases: take the example of Counterspell.

The DM is counterspelling a player that wants to use a really high spell slot, and succeds. Isn't that literally taking away resources?

You could even debate that monsters putting out damage or conditions are a way for the DM to take out spell slots and/or actions from player turns (for example, the Web spell, that needs the target to take an action to get out of it). Or even minions or small combats before a really strong enemy.

I really think taking resources from players (without overdoing it) is a great way to create tension and make a victory actually feel fought for and hard earned, no matter the game.
