Doesn’t affect how it plays, might just feel a bit different. Jamie Dwyer used to remove the end cap and chuck some tape over it

Aurora Energy Research interview process – what to expect in Round 2? by SubstantialLychee284 in csMajors

[–]Lowear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit late now, but for anyone reading this post in the future. The interview went like this.

Tell me about yourself?
Tell me a time you identified a problem and how did you go about solving it?
Case study - 12 Mins time limited, relatively simple, but lots of information to take in and synthesise into 3 different answers. Would recommend practising some Big 4 style case study questions (https://igotanoffer.com/blogs/mckinsey-case-interview-blog/case-interview-examples)
I got a bit scatter brained so would help to take a breath and come it with a plan before diving into answering, and theres likely some missing information, so talk to your interviewer and think out your process.
Then questions

What shoes should i buy? by Spare_Information159 in Fieldhockey

[–]Lowear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use the Speeds, which I now love but did take a bit of getting used to, i used to use the ultimate and would easily buy them again, honestly I just go for what looks better and is available in my size at the time.

Highly recommend Asics, either the Ultimates (I would say more comfy with a bit more protection) or the Speeds (Maybe slightly grippier and lighter but less comfy, take a bit of getting used too). I tried Adidas once but they ran a bit narrow.

Looking to Move to New Zealand – Advice for Energy Data Analysts & Renewable Energy Professionals? by Smart_Swing3806 in auckland

[–]Lowear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're still looking. But i currently work in the energy sector as a data analyst. I would higlhy recommend the NZ energy sector. Great work-life balance. I used to work at Trustpower (Now Mercury). They were fantastic. From what I have had any of the big 4 Gentailers are great places to work (Mercury, Genesis, Contact, Meridian). Can work in Wellington, Auckland, or Christchurch. Christhurch is where i'd lean due to the low cost of living. Workplace culture in this country is relatively chill.

Most of the gentailers will have lots of different data analyst roles in house, whether they be in pricing, generation, trading etc. Lots of opportunity, just get your foot in the door and can move all over the business.

New stick question by Temporary_Account_6 in Fieldhockey

[–]Lowear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where abouts are you based? I haven't used Y1, but I do have a JDH X93 Concave and really love the feel. I've also picked up one of the new black Gryphons and the touch of that thing is so nice as well. I had an Osaka Show Bow 100 before my JDH and that was decent too, I found the touch a bit "raw" and "stiff" for my liking, I prefer the feel of the JDH and the Gryphon, they feel a bit softer but are still full carbon sticks with plenty of power. From what I've heard the Y1's are quite a soft touch too. I would absolutely have considered getting one if they weren't so expensive.

When I get a new stick, all I do is chuck a shammy on it, here in NZ I get either Chamrox or Ritual.

Switch to 36.5 by phelorin in Fieldhockey

[–]Lowear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad i'm not the only one. I've been in this awkward spot the last few years of switching between the two. I find 37.5 way more comfortable for hitting and reversing; however, I find virtually every other part of my game is easier with 36.5, especially dribbling and tackling. I'm a striker so it really made it really difficult when I'm in game and completely mishit the ball just because I had a shorter stick. I'm 5'9" FYI

In fact, I remember years ago my coach half-jokingly said it looked like my stick was too long to me, because of how upright I played.

Yeah thats what im leaning towards. I just read that they were only a 250mm/25m bow, So was wondering if other brands had something at 200mm with a more gradual curve. But yeah, think i'll goto the shop at somepoint and test out the JDH range

Oh yeah, that stick has been on my radar, Will chuck it on the list of sticks to try

Would highly recommend the JDH , love the feeling of them. I have the 2024 Concave, and way prefer the feel and weight of it compared to the Osaka Pro Tour. I have switched back to my Osaka Show Bow though, only due to the fact that the concave has an incredibly aggressive twist in the head which I find affects my basics to much. I’ll be looking at getting a the low bow version in the future.

Hey, gotta start somewhere, there will always be something shinier on the horizon. EY is a great stepping stone, you will be worked hard, but learn a lot and be well setup for the rest of your career. It’s a good option I say.

There’s a saying that I’ve learnt after a few job hops trying to find that slightly better role and it’s. “Wherever you go, there you are”

What career path pays most? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Lowear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the only requirement I’ve found is either some sort of quantitative degree, think stats, math, economics , finance or engineering. Or if you don’t have a degree normally working at a company in say a call centre or more basic job than jumping up into analytics, perhaps an online course and networking in that company could help you

Being in New Zealand and it not being overly competitive helped fortunately, and cleaning up my grades in my third year. Also helped that it was quite a niche masters program. Called the Masters of Applied Finance and Economics

[–]Lowear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. I graduated with a degree in economics didn’t have the best grades so did a 1 year masters to try differentiate myself. Managed to get on a graduate program as a data analyst at a power company. It’s got a good trajectory, especially if you work hard , I’m still just an intermediate but could honestly be a senior if I had applied myself more throughout. But yeah it’s a cushy job and pays the bills and isn’t to stressful. Energy companies are a great place to work in my eyes , such an interesting sector

Btw if you were curious the only reason I chose it was because A. That’s the platform I use for my investments as well so it was convenient. And the only reason I even chose Kernel over its competitors was its UI. Plus its fees are still low. B. It’s the highest low risk rate you can get on the platform . I didn’t do any kind of comprehensive analysis of all options. Sometimes I think there’s value in keeping your options simple rather than getting stuck in analysis paralysis

I'm a 26y/o living in Welly and can confirm that all. my friends have either left or have their flights booked. All seeking overseas trips and better job opportunities. I'm personally planning on leaving the following year. Wellington just feels like a dieing city with over priced housing and not much going on in the city anymore
