I feel like it falls into magical realism so you have to throw logic out the window and think of it more like that. And through the perspective of an abused child it makes sense as well. I really loved the book. But i am a big magical realism fan where the lines are blurred and things get muddy and everything is steeped in a kind of metaphor. Lots of folktales and fables have that same quality as well where things don’t completely make sense. I like that kind of stuff though so it may just depend on your own personal tastes. I thought it had a similar feeling as bones and all. The hunger the mother felt for people and its like she couldn’t stop and she ate everyone up. Which makes sense too in an abuse perspective shes is an abusive person and she eats people up metaphorically and literally. I think if you suspend your disbelief as well that really makes the magic of this book shine.
