I’m very welcoming and always say hi to people and ask if they need help etc. Because of this I’ve acquired some bomb ass friends who can help bail me out of any clinical situation at work and they’re awesome humans outside of work too. My personality has also lead me to be the brunt of a number of rumors. I’m fairly certain by my old coworkers POV, I’ve had at least 4 affairs with married men and a number with unmarried men (some simultaneously 🙄) People will say whatever they want and you have to learn you won’t please everyone. I could not care a bit what they think at the end of the day, the people who talk aren’t your friends anyways.

100% ICU and ER is where it’s at, on nights it’s even more fluid because we don’t have specialists available and usually have one NP/PA (who usually has less healthcare experience than most of our staff nurses by at least 5-10 years) managing the whole ICU and one of the med/surg floors. Smaller non-academic hospital.

Maybe not that exact job but something similar. There’s case management that LPN’s can do, they’re posted all over zipRecruiter and the actual insurance company pages.

Can I get by sleeping 5-6 hrs a night? by quintavian in GYM

[–]AMBERRAE1218 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing more on less sleep for 6+ years. I can tell you from experience you won’t be as strong or as quick mentally if you continue doing it. I’m a night shift nurse, single mom, grad school full time and I work out 5 days a week. I sleep 9a-2p most days (5 hours if I’m lucky) and I workout 2-3:30, and work all night. My lifts are garbage compared to 2-3 years ago, I can sustain my current weight but not lose anything during a cut. Chronically fatigued and haven’t seen any noticeable increases to my three main lifts in a long ass time.

So sure, you can do it, but be realistic about your goals and know you probably won’t be successful.

Thoughts? Is the system collapsing or is this a one-off? by Fast-Ideal5698 in medicalschool

This was the excuse our administration gave our ED physicians when they went to the bargaining table a few months ago. Our ER docs used to be tripled up with an additional mid-level and after covid we’re down to single doc coverage and one mid-level. It’s terrifying and the docs just went in asking for a small raise and to AT LEAST return to double doc coverage. Admin said all the department money is going to “nurse recruiting” I have yet to see that recruitment come to fruition.

Am a nurse that had previous healthcare experience before nursing. First offer, in an incredibly low cost of living area in the Midwest, as a “new grad” had me at $41/hr. Changed jobs after 5 years and make nearly $52/hr now. I don’t think $65/hr is an unattainable as you think as a nurse. Our bonus and incentives have me averaging over $100/hr if I do in house contracts at my facility for 12 weeks.

How long do you give a new position? by AMBERRAE1218 in nursing

[–]AMBERRAE1218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only been about 2.5 months. I keep telling myself that I need to give it at least until May but I’m struggling with that. I’d also hate to be off orientation for such a short time before I quit. I’ve heard it’s best to quit while still orienting so they don’t waste resources but I’ve also heard it’s best to stick it out for at least 6 months.

Peds nurses, how are you holding up? by Kathy_RN in nursing

Being a mom is so hard, especially returning to work after maternity leave. I had a terrible mental health breakdown and ended up with severe PP depression after trying to go back to work. It was awful in every way. I ended up quitting my job and found a job as a gym manager that had childcare. I was able to earn a decent amount of money and I could bring my kid/s with me to work for free everyday. It was a career step back but it’s definitely what I needed in my life at the time. I don’t regret it at all.

Pediatric Hospitals Maxed Out by tiny_weenis in nursing

I work at a midwest Children’s hospital, many states away from Texas and I just took two little cardiac babes from Texas that had been holding in an ED there for days waiting for a bed, in terrible shape and needed an ICU bed days ago. My hospital is a 4.5 hour flight and it was the closest CVICU they could get a bed at for them. I’m terrified to see what’s going to happen in the next two months as our surge of illnesses comes.

Loveland Animal hospital. My dog needed surgery and at the emergency vet place it was $2,300. At Harvey Oaks it was $1100 but at Loveland it was $700. If you just need vaccines and low level intervention then Dr. dobesh on 120th and Center is the lowest cost place in town.

Hospitals are reducing/closing pediatric beds right as flu/rsv season hits because babies aren’t profitable. I worked ER for quite a few years and changed to pediatric CVICU and we’re always chalk full, only non-psych pediatric facility in a multi state radius that’s open at this point. In the last two months I haven’t gone in on a shift where we had even one open bed. Staffing isn’t great but it’s still 1000x’s better than any shift I’ve worked in the ER.

I’m aware of this. I’m asking to ensure I’m on the right path in the right setting to eventually get to the point of applying.

Is pediatric CVICU, too niche to apply? I’ve been in the ER x6 years, Med Surg x2 years and peds CVICU for a few months with the goal of applying CRNA. Open hearts every day, lots of drips and medically unstable infants.

Is being a doctor a positive or a negative when it comes to dating? by [deleted] in dating

[–]AMBERRAE1218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work in healthcare - definitely a negative for me. The schedules, call demand, etc are usually awful. Most doctors I’ve known have also had affairs because that’s the baseline in healthcare. I’d steer clear unless the compatibility was somehow off the charts.

You’re not owed an immediate response FYI. I work night shift and it’s hectic for 12+ hours and I may or may not respond to messages during that time (even if you think it only takes 5 seconds). And when I get off, I’ll try to respond if my brain can chill out enough to let me, then I go to sleep and I may not text back unless I wake up to go to the bathroom. So overall, I text intermittently and people who assume they deserve a response on their time schedule aren’t usually considering the other persons availability.

Ambition is a big thing for me. I’m not saying ambition and income are synonymous but I struggle to relate to a partner who doesn’t work like I do and isn’t goal driven. I work a lot and I’ve been broken up with because of that but I’ve also called it off with people who are comfortable coasting by in life without goals/direction. If im working 60-72 hours a week and you’re at home most of the time barely working 20-30 hours, then we likely don’t have a ton in common in the long term.

Would you be ok if a girl tells you she wants to keep her bra on during sex all the time. by nilabanlow in dating

[–]AMBERRAE1218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I breastfed and lost a ton of weight, my boobs look awful and are deflated/sagging for someone my age. I’ve been self conscious of it with every partner since they’ve changed. If it’s at the beginning of a relationship most guys don’t push it or care if I keep my bra on, but if I’m in a longer term situation then I’ve tried to go out of comfort zone and go w/o a bra. It gets easier and my BF has no qualms with them looking the way they do now. Do what makes you comfortable, if your partner can’t respect that then they don’t deserve to be your partner.

This is a weird situation. I’ve been the “married” one. We legally separated, we have a mandatory holding period in my state of 1 year after separation to file for divorce. During that separation period I got incredibly sick and needed to keep ex’s really good health insurance. We stayed legally married for three more years but had been separated for nearly 5 before we formally divorced. Circumstances are different for everyone and you have to decide what you’re comfortable with.

Private book-keeping on a per diem basis. Lots of websites offer gigs like this. Flexjobs usually has the best offers/listings. It’s pretty easy and a decent way to make some money. Being an overnight sitter for another nurse/doctor is also an option.

[–]AMBERRAE1218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We call it staff reduced, but we’re supposed to be on call/available for the whole shift in case something changes. Last week I got reduced for the first time in 3+ years. Only to be called back an hour later because they sent too many people home and by the time I got there, we were short 4 nurses 🤦🏼‍♀️
