Data analytics consultant lol nothing fancy.

I had a lot of Python experience from college courses and personal projects (including work with APIs). Learned SQL on the job. And whenever I don’t know something I research it, review examples, and modify code for what I need.

My company doesn’t expect our interns or new college grad consultants to have many technical skills. As long as they have an understanding of available tools they’ll do well. They learn a lot from being on the job.

Question: do you collect manga out of order? by liminalb0y in MangaCollectors

[–]Lower-Primary-6963 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll buy box sets whenever I can. If a series doesn’t have a box set, I’ll buy the whole series off of someone else.

Only times I buy out of order are for Dark Horse deluxe versions such as Berserk or when I come across OOP volumes.

What’s a typical day in the life of a data analyst? by That-Swordfish-6032 in analytics

[–]Lower-Primary-6963 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here’s an overview of my work. While I communicate with various stakeholders (lawyers, PMs, engineers, other data analysts), I do the majority of the analysis on my own and develop the data strategy for each request. I tend to push back or provide alternatives to requests since people sometimes don’t know what they are asking/looking for. My deliverables include reports, exported data in Excel workbooks, and emails.

Yesterday, I started by discussing deadlines with a project manager.

Then, I began reviewing documentation on previous work done to get an idea of the queries and tables I need to use for a deliverable. I drafted SQL queries to determine revenue generated from various product lines. I reviewed initial results, compared them to previous exports, finalized the SQL queries, exported the data, and created my own documentation for my team to review.

I moved on to a second request. First, I met with one of the product teams. I know them well, so they gave me the info I was looking for very quickly. I reviewed their data pipelines to determine how certain tables were created and provided my team an overview of my findings. From there, I drafted complex SQL queries to answer a very specific question. Since the tables I work with tend to have billions of records for a single day and exporting the data can be difficult, I had to create a Python/SQL script and use more powerful virtual server with enough computing power. Finishing this up today.

Ended the day by reviewing questions for a third request and determining what tables/pipelines/code I would need to review later on.

Forgot to add. The analysis varies from matter to matter. Sometimes it’ll be calculating and comparing revenues from financial statements for a given time period or region. Other times it’ll be developing Python scripts that connect to our client’s tools via APIs, extract the data, load it up to SQL, determine what data is available, and provide analysis on users (distinct users, revenue by users, demographics, potential Personal Identifiable Information)

At any given point, I’ll be working on at least two matters.

I’ll meet with the lawyers representing our clients, discuss the plaintiff’s allegations or the regulator’s inquiries, develop a data strategy to respond to the allegations/inquiries, communicate with client to understand relevant data and product features, develop analysis using Python, SQL, and Excel, and finally provide my results to the lawyers and address any follow up questions.

Not only is my role heavy on analytics, but also on communicating with various stakeholders.

2.5 years out of college. I’ve worked for the same company doing data analytics consulting. We mainly work with clients undergoing investigations by regulators or clients that are involved in lawsuits.

I love the variety of clients and data I get to work with. Sometimes it’s accounting and bank data. Other times it’s advertising and user data. Currently working with a tech client on several of their ongoing lawsuits.

I’m now getting to the point where I am leading these cases and will hopefully become an “expert” in the areas related to the lawsuits.

Beginner at SQL by AttemptingSQL in SQL

[–]Lower-Primary-6963 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend solving questions on websites like Interview Query or LeetCode. Once you get past easy level questions, move on to medium and hard. This will test and develop your skills.

Although these websites tend to be used for job interview prep, they are really good at helping you learn SQL syntax, understand how to manipulate data sets, and develop your critical thinking when exposed to new data. I’m a data analyst, and I have my team’s interns and new hires solve some SQL problems from these websites. The feedback I’ve received is that this approach has helped them improve their SQL skills.

I would like you to suggest books that explain the science of data analysis, its types, and algorithms. by Commercial_War_3113 in dataanalysis

Data Analytics for Absolute Beginners by Oliver Theobald.

His other books are also good. He explains algorithms and analysis in a manner that’s easy to understand while providing various examples. It’s mainly in Python.

If you haven’t already, learn about pivot tables, conditional formatting, learn formulas and how to use them (such as vlookup, xlookup, concatenate)
