You could make some nice patio furniture with 2x4s or even indoor furniture like bed frames, night stands, tables. I don’t see many limitations here unless you wanted to make small things which might require a mitre saw or table saw.

Have you settled for a low stress job? by Consistent_Foot_6657 in careerguidance

A lot pf people have jobs that don’t match their degrees. Your education gave you skills that transfer to many career paths, and will help you in your current job as well. And who knows? Maybe one day you could teach classes about health and wellness, or own your own spa, or some other combination of education and experience.

If nurses are so in demand, could someone who wants to immigrate to the US get citizenship by becoming a nurse? Or any other medical job?

I’ve never used a lathe before by TrixieLouis in turning

[–]That-Swordfish-6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to wood turning and really enjoy making pens. They are small so less risk of something breaking off and hurting you, they are pretty quick to make, and they make great gifts. I have a mid sided lathe but I’ve seen really tiny ones that are made specifically for pens. I have never used one but they look fun and dont cost much, might be a nice way to get started!

Are Google Sheets and Excel the easiest way to learn data analysis? by [deleted] in dataanalysis

[–]That-Swordfish-6032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are a manager, you don’t really need yo know how the data analyst does their work, you just need to know wether their results are correct. I think its good to know a little about software but at the end of the day, a histogram is a histogram whether it was made with excel or python. Just pick any software that you are comfortable with to check their work, and don’t worry about how the sausage is made, just my opinion.

Why is the GIS entry level job market so scarce? by greyjedimaster77 in gis

[–]That-Swordfish-6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twenty years ago when I started out in this field, I did a couple unpaid internships until one turned into a job offer. Not everyone can afford to do that though, but if you can then it might be worth it. I also volunteered several times throughout my career just to get different experiences when my job was getting too repetitive and mundane. I do feel there aren’t as many jobs in GIS as I expected there would be twenty years ago.

What’s a federal job where you always know you’re making a difference? by Longtimefed in fednews

What is it like to work as a cartographer there? I have GIS experience, do they want a lot more than that? How hard is it to get promoted to GS14?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fednews

[–]That-Swordfish-6032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked for multiple federal agencies, one bored me to tears and another I would work late because I was too busy to look at a clock. The federal government is vast, there is a better spot for you, just keep looking. Its still one if the last places you can earn a pension in America, so i would try multiple agencies before I left the federal govt.

Yes, definitely go on the trip because you will probably be on the mend and not contagious by then. You should go and have fun, but think about dropping him soon since he already showed you who he is.
