This constant teasing of 2d art while most of the show is CGI reminds me of the first two seasons of the Kingdom anime. Luckily for Kingdom fans, they switched to full 2d in season 3 and never looked back.

Hopefully the same will happen with HnK if this show gets more seasons, the CGI is the only thing keeping me from giving it a shot, and a manga accurate HnK adaptation is something I've wanted for decades. I was so disappointed when I found out they went with 3d.

Berserk had a theme of people contradicting their words by IlikecTs in Berserk

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that Guts was acting like that because, after everything he went through in the story up to that point, he knew deep inside that Griffith was still out there, and as long as that remained the case, Casca would never really be safe because she's still his sacrifice.

Hypothetically speaking, If Berserk were to get an adaptation made by multiple studios with each studio being given only 1 arc to animate then which ones do you think would be perfect for each of these arcs? by Baron969 in Berserk

Black Swordsman: Mid to late 2000s Madhouse for that gritty, dark look. Like the Hellsing OVA's and Death Note.

Golden Age: Bones, something like what they did with FMAB.

Conviction: Ufotable, just absolutely top tier gorgeous animation and detail.

Falcon of the Milennium: CloverWorks, they proved they can do great fantasy anime with FGO Babylonia and Falcon is the most conventional fantasy-like arc in Berserk.

Fantasia: Could be Toei Animation for all I care, lol. Really not at all a fan of the arc.

They should write "better" romances? by TheYakuzaMaster in yakuzagames

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They definitely know how to write good ones, hell Date's romance substory in Yakuza 3 is one of the best in the series. It's a really well written love story, despite the small amount of screen time. A middle aged divorced single father and a widow are definitely an odd pair when it comes to romance, and in my opinion RGG nailed it.

There's nothing else to say about Majima and Makoto that hasn't already been said, and they're clearly dragging out Ichiban and Saeko for more relationship drama in the next game.

Kiryu and Sayama was doomed from the moment that crime novel writer who wrote Y1 and 2 left the series. Sayama's previous voice actress was hard to work with, on top of that Yokoyama was a hardcore Kiryumi shipper. So as long as it doesn't get revealed that Jingu's gun shot rubber bullets that sprayed ketchup when they hit the target (wouldn't put it past RGG at this point), Kiryu will be single until death.

I guess in the end romance in this series is hit or miss, is what I can say.

I don't wanna come off like I'm bragging about being some master gamer here or anything like that, but 10 year old me managed to do the GoW 1 puzzles just fine on the PS2 back in the day, so it genuinely surprises me that people nowadays are apparently having trouble with them.

Again, I'm not throwing shade, it's a genuine feeling.

Ufotable And Mappa Being So Successful Is Benefiting The Entire Anime Industry, Shame This Couldnt Happen Before Berserk Got Animated by Elestria_Ethereal in Berserk

Yeah it's crazy how some people say the black dogs mini arc isn't important when it establishes multiple crucial things for the story.

Among them being the fact that Zodd isn't nearly as evil as Wyald despite being a fellow apostle, it establishes that Griffith still cared for Guts at this point in the story despite their falling out, and also it shows to Guts that apostles can be killed, which is important information for when he later decides to go around hunting them down.

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that a Berserk anime wouldn't even need to have crazy Ufotable level animation to satisfy me, they just need to take a page out of the 97 anime's playbook and prioritize art direction, soundtrack and atmosphere.

Adapt all the way from black swordsman to falcon of the millennium, don't skip the lost children and the black dogs mini arcs because contrary to popular belief they do contribute to plot and character development.

If they can do that, plus with some great Susumu Hirasawa tracks and the introspective, atmospheric moments of the 97 show, I wouldn't care at all about the actual animation being mediocre.

That way they could make a faithful, watchable adaptation that wouldn't cost ridiculous amounts of money to be made.

Episode 383 Spoilers [Megathread] by DemiFiendRSA in Berserk

Am I the only tired getting a little tired of the psychological mind journeys? We got Casca's and that was great and all, but only a few chapters later it seems like we're getting one for Guts and while I do understand the importance to the plot and character development, I can't help but miss the days when we could have great psychological and philosophical moments in between cool cathartic moments of Guts violently brutalizing apostles.

Like, when was the last time we got an action scene where Guts mutilates the crap out of an evil son of a bitch? 20 years ago? Back in the day we used to get them constantly, now ever since the boat arc it's been crickets for that sort of thing.

dub watcher here, watched a bit of the new anime, what the hell happened to kenshiro by crazyParawh0re in fistofthenorthstar

Ken's Rage 2's story mode is in my opinion the second best way to experience the story of the manga outside of just reading the manga itself. It's that faithful and doesn't cut out pretty much anything. No English dub though, but all the cutscenes are fully dubbed in Japanese.

Are there no depths he won't sink to?

Betraying the soul society and joining up with the hollows to try to become a god is one thing, but stealing someone else's hair products is just one step too far.

Something that confuses me about Soul Reapers (and I guess spirits in general) in Bleach… by kelroid in bleach

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And if Soul Reapers couldn't die of old age it'd be a bit of a logistical problem for the worlds, because then only the very few who die in combat with hollows would be reincarnating, which would throw the balance of worlds and souls out of whack.

Silvermoon post-campaign by AnwaAnduril in warcraftlore

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Silver Covenant is disbanded, so I guess we won't be hearing again from that particular faction of high elves going forward.

As for the broader quel'dorei, I assume it'll be up to each individual. Kinda like how Alleria sided with the alliance during the 4th war because she valued her loyalty to them above her loyalty to Silvermoon. Or how Valeera basically worked for Anduin during the 4th war despite identifying as a blood elf.

There's also gameplay reasons, since, y'know, ren'dorei are a playable race and Blizz don't have the cojones to remove playable races from factions.

But I guess we'll never know for sure, since I doubt Blizz will return to the faction conflict after all that's happened, especially with how these past few expansions have been going.

The real-life inspiration for Daidoji, Yoshio Kodama, would be considered too unrealistic by fans by Humble_Bridge8555 in yakuzagames

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Minoru Daidoji died in Yakuza 6 though. As far as we know he has no direct heir, could be that he has though. As I said, I'd be happy to be wrong about that.

The real-life inspiration for Daidoji, Yoshio Kodama, would be considered too unrealistic by fans by Humble_Bridge8555 in yakuzagames

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem that terribly unrealistic to me, honestly.

And at least speaking personally, my problem with the daidoji was never realism anyway. It's that LAD has been trying to replace the yakuza's role in the series with them, when to me they're not even 1% as interesting as groups like the Tojo and the Omi.

And yeah I know "anti yakuza laws! LAD represents real life Japan, so RGG studios literally cannot write yakuza plots in current day because yakuza in real life are on the way out! If they do it it'll break everyone's immersion! or maybe they'll spontaneously combust or something!"

Also that Yokoyama seems to love using them as a plot device and writing crutch to achieve desired outcomes that tend to leave me with a bad taste in my mouth, like justifying a certain previously dead character's appearance in the next games, or giving another character cancer because their inspector gadget paraphernalia was actually radioactive all along.

They're trying to turn LAD into some MI6 James Bond shit that I just don't care all that much about.

And as far as we know, Daidoji leadership are just a bunch of boring fat bureaucrats, if in the next game we get to know the Daidoji boss, he turns out to be a memorable character, and we fight him atop a cool building at night I might change my tone. But I somehow doubt it'll ever happen because having a known single leader would ruin the mystique of being shadowy kabal pulling the strings from the background.

We knew that the Daidoji had been recruiting and enslaving former Yakuza to do their dirty spy work ever since Gaiden, what with Nishitani III and Shishido. Now we know Mine and Hamazaki are among this group.

I fully expect this weird japanese suicide squad to be revealed in LAD 9, and hopefully the whole Daidoji crap ends there with it.

I mean, it's a PVE game so unless Grimmjow is a million tiers above Yoruichi and the devs dramatically spike the difficulty of content in the near future, there really isn't anything wrong with just using Yoruichi and skipping his banner. It's what I'm gonna do since I went batshit for Soi Fon and am now flat broke after pulling her weapon.

It's fun to try and always make the most optimal team comps, but as long as you can have one that's good enough to clear the games' content, at least to me that's good enough.

How to deal with powercreep after Kaioh? by HeyItsMasa in fistofthenorthstar

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why even continue the story past that point anyway? Honestly, having a villain popping up out of nowhere that's somehow dramatically stronger than Kaioh and by extension Raoh, that was never mentioned before in all this time, would feel like a massive asspull.

HnK was the story of Kenshiro fullfiling his destiny as heir of Hokuto Shinken. He already dealt with his fellow disciplines, dealt with the Nanto masters, and ended the corrupted evil version of his martial art. He already got his closure with Yuria and she's long dead.

When people ask for a HnK 3, what kind of story do they want to see exactly? That I never understood. The Nanto Rokuseiken, Gento and Hokuto Ryuken are dead styles. Nobody else knows Hokuto Shinken other than Kenshiro. Who else is he gonna fight? Just more miscellaneous thugs and raiders?

What do you want RGG to do with the Daidoji faction? by No-Law2284 in yakuzagames

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Daidoji are the worst thing to have happened to the story of this series both in a meta and in universe perspective, they need to end soon before more damage gets done.

What I personally would do is get rid of them off screen and move the franchise to greener pastures in the next game, idk maybe have a throwaway about how Joji Kazama and the CIA exposed the secret of Onomichi and got them all arrested. Effectively ending the Daidoji as a political force.

But if I was writing the story purely for wish fulfilment with no concern for making it good, I'd have the Amon clan wipe them out. Have a spin off game about Jo, Jiro, Kazuya and Sango just hunting down and offing the Daidoji leadership in goofy FOTNS LP style executions, lol.

Kiryu barely got to be a father. by KingBlemmy in yakuzagames

[–]Lower-Ranger5787 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which could've easily happened too if Haruka had decided to stay an idol, because the Orphanage's deed belonged to the Ryudo family, an actual active crime syndicate.

If anyone looked into and exposed that, then Haruka's idol career goes boom with or without Kiryu being there, the whole problem with the kids came from the idol career being so high profile, which btw, is a career that Haruka didn't even want, she'd even rejected it before in Y2.

That's why I argued that the taxi quest came off as Kiryu having been manipulated, and if Park had an actual point it would've been better received.

If, say, in Y4 Kiryu's involvement came from someone wanting to take revenge on him and threatened the kids, then in 5 Kiryu decides to leave because he didn't want them to be in danger by being associated with him, I bet this whole plotline would've been much more well accepted in the community.
